Can someone tell me if they are sending invites for the undergraduate programs? Cause it sounds like the graduate programs are getting offers first.

For anyone who’s gotten an invitation, how are you preparing? I feel so scared and don’t know how.
The interview, at least mine, was very informal. They ask you about your application in general. I would prepare the general questions ie. why medicine, why the school. Also, know the CV you submitted. It’s more so a conversation l. I honestly asked the interviewer more questions than they asked me.

Congratulations! Do you mind sharing some tips or advice for the interviews?
Thanks! I was in disbelief. Thought I’d have to wait a couple months to hear back. For the interview, be natural, friendly, and dress professional. It’s very conversational. What they ask you will most likely vary depending your personaI statement. Who are you? What makes you special? Know the answers to these questions and show it. I was told that a lot shortlisting is done pre interview stage.

That's awesome! Do you have any advice for preparing for the interview? What were the questions like?

Sorry I missed this! But M3.STI summed it up well. There's really not much to it, as they schedule you for a skype interview that is a mere 15 minutes long. He asked general questions like why UCD, what fields are you interested in, and honestly that was pretty much it. We talked about match rates and getting back to the US successfully, and he told me that everyone matches (not sure to what exactly though, keep that in mind). He says there are alumni who have training in the US and start the process of getting you back on day 1. He also said they had similar USMLE Step 1 scores to MD students in the US, some even higher. Of course this is moot if it becomes pass/fail, and I generally like to hear this from multiple people like students and alums before I truly believe it. Then again I'm a skeptic 😵

No problem, thanks for the advice!

For interviews I go with short and as close to my skin color as possible. I had a mentor tell me that they shouldn't notice your nails or makeup.

So I shouldn’t have gone with medium length acrylics

I can feel your disappointment from here. I don't think it'll be the end of the world, as long as you don't wave your hands in front of their face 😆.

Just several hours till mine. Good luck!!! Hell screw luck, you don't need it. Just be the person who got you this far.

I say crying in the bathroom lol
I’m literally just sitting waiting for my interview trying to hold tears back. I’m so terrified of messing this up!!

Oh no don't think like that! I will be at the hotel soon, if anyone wants to meat up before to calm the nerves.

Sure! I am on the fourth floor waiting for my interview. If you’re here after my interview, I’ll let you know what I was asked!

I’m not sure how I feel about my interview... my interviewer asked me “Why didn’t you apply right when you left high school?” And I froze

I think saying I didn't feel ready at that time would have been a good answer. Nonetheless, congratulations on finishing your interview. I think they mostly just have to check if you're as attractive as your resume. It would be awkward getting a stellar student who cant even tie his own shoes.

Just finished my RCSI interview in Vancouver. Don’t really know how to feel about it. Didn’t really get an idea whether I was accepted or not. Anyone who did the interview, did the interviewer give you a good indication whether you got in or not?

Okay so I’m not the only one who felt like this. I literally left so confused because they are not really clear or straightforward.

Thank you so much! I was really hoping to be hearing about your interview, I feel so bad that I’m talking about it when people who are so deserving of it didn’t get it yet 🙁

This is exactly how I feel. I can't determine if they A) already felt like I was good fit for the school and just wanted to make sure I presented well as the cherry on top , i.e. basically weed out any crazy that might have slipped in or B) were assessing me in person still and I had to prove my worth as a potential student. The final conclusion of the interview felt super neutral , I don't feel like I advanced myself as a candidate but it didn't seem like I hurt my application...

I'm also bummed because I felt like there were things I wanted to talk about that would have been beneficial but didn't have the chance to.

I couldn’t have said it better. My interviewer seemed to be asking the same questions over and over again, at one point he asked a question and then said “however I feel like I already know the answer” like LOL ask me a different question then

This. Glad I wasn’t the only one. So much more I wanted to talk about, but we mainly talked about one part of my app. Oh well, we’ll see in a little over a week from now

lol glad to see we all feel the same way about the interview. has definitely put me at ease.

For the people that got interviews. What did your resumes/CV look like? Cause I’m second guessing myself and thinking I’m not competitive enough

My resume is actually complete ****. I’ve never worked a day in my life, and I only have about 200 hours of volunteering (which is nothing compared to all of the 400 volunteer hours that some people applied with). I’m not sure why they even showed an ounce of interest in me when there are much more deserving applicants to be honest.

How did you declare hours worked on your resume?

Hmmm I don’t know what I did wrong but I’m trying hard not to stress about not getting an interview. I’m debating right now of when I should start to apply for fall 2021

Interviewes and invites are on a rolling basis. You could well have an offer in August

Always prepare for failure. Think about it in a clinical context: a physician doesn't rely on his first treatment to work; he has a back-up plan and a back-up plan for his back-up plan.

This. The level of "oof" behind having to orchestrate a move from the United States, Canada, or any other country within a matter of weeks if given an offer in August seems a bit uncalled for. Granted, that is my opinion.

That’s what I was thinking cause it takes a month or two for you to get a student visa

Congratulations!!! Will you be accepting?
I'm still waiting to hear back from my interview. Was the acceptance visible on the UCD platform or did you get a separate email?

Thanks! I'm not sure yet, as I just had my RCSI interview on Sunday. I only have two weeks to decide though.
You get an email saying your application status has been updated, then you have to login to your account on UCD's portal.
Good luck though, you should be hearing back soon!

Fingers crossed for you and all of us waiting to hear back! Congrats on the acceptance!!

Hi all,

long time lurker -first time poster here.

I just submitted my AB application last night - GEM schools

Wondering if people can shed light on my stats and what my chances are, esp. that I am applying so late in the game.

cGPA: 3.6
MCAT: 508
Strong volunteer experience throughout undergrad (medical + community service + athletics) + 3 year work experience in the healthcare field.

I read on other threads that some schools offer interview slots within days of applying, don’t know if anyone can shed some light on that please.

Thank you all for your insight - really hoping this works out for me (applied in Canada + US and it did not work out for me).

Congrats on the application! I personally don't think it's late at all. I know of someone who applied a couple years back in mid-march and got in to one of the GEMs programs 🙂.

Hopefully you hear back soon!
