Just rejected by my IS, so I am almost 100% coming to Auburn! The only thing ranking my IS over Auburn was money, anyway.
Just fyi all of you going for your interview, I filled out the interview feedback! I also have a complete list of all the questions they asked me. It wasn't bad at all. I had my OOS interview at the beginning of February and was accepted 10 days later. Let me know if you have any questions! and good luck! 🙂
I wrote to Kaye last night to officially accept my spot in the class of 2017 (OOS). My acceptance packet is on the way to me in the mail!
I'm driving over to Auburn for the day on Thursday to start looking at potential housing. I guess I will probably end up living by myself first year and then try to find a roommate or roommates for 2nd year on. I just don't know that I would be comfortable moving myself and my 2 cats in with a complete stranger! Hopefully I can find somewhere to live where I will have vet students as neighbors so it won't be lonely.
So did anybody get more info in the email from Kaye about interviews for KY residents. I guess I just expected a bit more....
I got the same email with just a list of hotels and a map... but yesterday she resent it with another attachment with the actual info on where the interview is... what to bring... etc.
🙂
I'm in!!! I JUST got the email like 5 minutes ago. I'm SOOOO excited! I'm going to Auburn!!
😍😍😍
Is there a facebook group or anything for the class?
I'm thinking I will probably end up at Auburn (which would be a good thing..don't get me wrong), but I am waiting to hear from Tennessee (interview tomorrow) and I'm going to hold off as long as I can for my IS, NCS (I'm on the waitlist). I will be praying a lot in the next few months for guidance..this process is so difficult to figure out and get through!
Pbpauburn are you waitlisted? Keep in mind that they over accept, in order to fill seats... Having said that, I really hope you get in! I still need to pick between schools, but as of now it looks like I might be declining my Auburn acceptance. Will keep you updated!
I am on the auburn waitlist as well. Did you call or email to find out where you are on the waitlist? I would love to know but I also don't want to bother them too much.Yes I am! I was trying to get an idea if most people have decided yet since *most* schools have finished interviews etc. I would love to know if you do decline..I inquired and found out that I am on the lower end of waitlist.. For whatever that is worth

I am also on the waitlist and was trying to think of how to politely inquire about my position on the waitlist. How did you go about doing this?

I just heard back from Kaye, and she told me they do not disclose positions on the waitlist. Who told you that you were on the lower end of the waitlist?
If you get into auburn and tenn- do you have one you prefer? I know the whole process is just stressful
i know that for me I always thought that I would go to Tufts or VM but when I got in to both and Auburn (which I hadn't expected to even get into) it was my visit that sold me. I think that Auburn is a great college town and the all new classrooms and facilities are just awesome! I don't know much about UT but I know when it came down to Tufts (near family, love boston, incredible program) vs Auburn I just had to go with where I thought the learning style suited me best. Just imagine yourself at both schools and think which one feels best.I'm really struggling with this scenario...I'm trying to compare in my mind but it is very difficult..here is what I am thinking so far...
I've always wanted to go to UT since I was a kid (I have family in Knoxville and love TN)
Tennessee sees a lot of exotic cats which are a huge passion of mine and I'm wondering if I will get that exposure at Auburn..can anyone help me out with that??
BUT..Tennessee is not as highly ranked as Auburn and is MUCH more expensive (tuition and living)
Auburn has a BRAND new hospital in the works and is less expensive, even though still out of state tuition.
I wasn't a fan of the dress code at Auburn but loved the hospital and facilities.
Can anyone else help me out with the comparison??

UT has limited accreditation?? Wow! I thought all US schools were fully accredited....Are there other schools that aren't fully accredited in the US as well?I will be the first to tell you that my opinion is biased since I'm a student here at Auburn so take my opinion for what it's worth. I love being at Auburn. I chose to come here over schools I was accepted to that were ranked higher and don't regret it at all. The new small animal hospital is going to be incredible and our large animal facilities are still fairly new and a lot nicer than other schools that I visited. The dress code seems like a pain beforehand but it really isn't all that bad. You learn quickly how to adjust to it and it makes the transition to clinics easier since you're already used to dressing professional. I am always in dress code and am always comfortable so you don't have to wear heels and skirts everyday unless you want to.
As far as large cat experience, there is a zoo vet club and an exotic companion animal club. Through the AAZV chapter, I've done behind the scene tours at the Montgomery zoo and the Atlanta zoo. Some of my classmates did externships over the summers at different zoos and large cat sanctuaries. As with any school, there are options out there if you look for them and take the initiative to get them. The faculty at Auburn are incredible at helping students gain experience with whatever you're interested in. We do have faculty that have worked on large cats and can help find those opportunities.
I don't know if this will influence your decision in comparing UT verses Auburn but Auburn is fully accredited while UT is on limited accreditation. I know that people say that once they finish some updates to their hospitals that they will be fully accredited again but you never know what inspectors/evaluators will find with future inspections. Personally, limited accreditation would make me nervous since it's basically one step away from losing accreditation. I wouldn't want to work as hard as I have to get through vet school to have the school lose their accreditation before I graduate and then have to spend an extra $10,000 for licensing testing since I would have graduated from a non-accredited school. Again, this is just my opinion and hopefully UT will be back to fully accredited after their next inspection but it's something to keep in mind.

I only asked bc I have a pre req to take for auburn and have a deadline to sign up for the course. It was either a take the class or don't go to auburn situation
