Can someone chime in with some criticism for this school? The NSU thread has some pretty good constructive criticism. From your experiences with this school, what do you disapprove of or worry about. Such as NSU they don't like spanish being thrown at them during their busy schedule and the horrible biochem department.
Bearing in mind that I've been truly-involved with this school for about two months and that's it: My only real complaint as far as classes go is with anatomy lab. It's kind of a love-hate relationship because on the plus-side you get to do the dissections yourself (while many schools let you do this, apparently there are others that do not) but on the con-side you only do every third dissection/lab because the class is so large that they just don't have the bodies or facilities to have everybody doing every dissection (they counter this by making the lab open 7/week, from ~6:00AM-10:00PM).
Another complaint would be that the entire campus shuts down on holidays, so when we had Memorial Day awhile back the library was closed the day before an anatomy exam (which is a slight issue when ~1/2 of the practical questions are image-based [x-rays, diagrams, etc] and ~1/4 of those questions come from a manual that the anatomy department makes for each unit that you can only access in the lab during dissections or in the library).
Aside from those things, which are somewhat nitpicks, I really don't have any complaints against the school. The biochemistry and histology departments are great; anatomy isn't BAD it's just a bigger pain in the butt compared to the other two basic science departments I've encountered so far. Also, all of the departments are very-receptive to students. All of the professors repeatedly tell us to stop by their offices if we're having any issues with anything and after each exam there is a formal exam review in order for students to see what questions they missed and why, and there have been multiple occasions already in which post-review the faculty have decided to double-score questions which students had posed reasonable defenses for why they should have been accepted as correct during the review.
Also, kind of in the "Pro" and "Con" categories are exams. We have at least one exam a week. So far there hasn't been more than one BIG exam (anatomy, biochem, or histology) per week but the past couple of weeks some of our "accessory" classes (OMM and human behavior) have had exams in addition to the weekly big exam, which complicates your week a bit but is survivable. I personally like that we have weekly exams because it means I'm not studying half of a term's worth of information for a midterm and final as my only two grades in a class, and it forces me to keep up on studying every week rather than taking it easy, but it is mentally-draining keeping up with at times for most people.
I also know many schools don't have mandatory attendance and that some others do, but at AZCOM attendance isn't mandatory for lectures in any of the basic sciences, it's just "highly-recommended." I find this to be a great policy because I and many others are more independent-learners than classroom-learners so this gives us the option of either sleeping-in or getting work done during lecture and only going to class when we feel like it would be beneficial to do so or it's required (such as biochem workshops or any labs).
Also, disregard any awkward sentences, errors, or scattered-thoughts, as I'm typing this in a rush over my lunch-break.
