Best Major to get if your planning on going to Dental School

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Your logic is good, except that 4 year business degrees are about a dime a dozen these days. Yes, it is applicable to dentistry, but I don't think business is a great standalone option in case dental school falls through.

Have you taken upper lv biochem/cellbio courses or done academic research? critical thinking is not exclusive to econ..

I have done some research and just started cell bio. Research wise, I feel like econ is better. Cell bio hasn't really started, so I guess i will find out. I agree that thinking critically is not exclusive to econ. However, in my experience, econ, math, and a few others teach you to think critically better than science classes.

I agree that being a different major than science is beneficial for a lot of reasons...being a math major I also feel like I'm incredibly analytical and I can also say that being an education major really helps develops anyone's communication skills...however, if I were to do it all over again....I think I definitely would keep my major...but I wish I had taken a lot more difficult science courses because I'm feeling nervous about taking so many science classes at once

I agree with you most of my upper econ classes are filled with math majors. Math is definitely more analytical than econ and I think the most is probably engineering. I also understand what you mean about the science courses, but if the adcoms think you can do it. You can do it. :D

Even though I was a bio major most of my electives were in history and english. I think this helped keep my writing sharp. A lot of people really don't learn better writing techniques after high school.

If I had to do my undergrad all over... I would major in something Biology related (most likely physiology).... would work hard and keep my grades high

I wasted a good 5-6 years between going into I.T and realizing I wanted healthcare.
I am planning on doing CIS Computer Information Systems with a minor in Biology for Pre-Dental, you said you wasted time doing IT, is this not a good option for me?

Just major in what you are interested in. That's what's important. Once you start dental school, you won't have the opportunity to take all these classes you would have wanted to take. And they don't care if you have to go a bit beyond four years, provided that you aren't frequently dropping classes and/or slacking off on number of credit hours (you should still aim for about 15±1 credit hours per semester).

TL;DR: go ahead and major in CIS only if that is what you are genuinely interested in.
