finally got a decision from them...waitlist (my 11th :D )

this is by far the funniest waitlist letter I ever received: "We cannot say at this time whether or not we will find it possible to accept you, so you should, therefore, continue to make contingency plans for your future."

my contingency plan is to go to another med school

I'll refrain from beginning another BU rant in this thread, but I hate BU medical school

Kept me waiting eight months almost before I withdrew. . .

Well said Assassin . . . !!! :D

I interviewed in March, got the acceptable letter a few weeks later...

...but still waiting on a decision.

ok I'll check my mailbox soon and keep you guys posted :)

I've been waiting almost 6 months for this letter...

Damn. Just got a waitlist letter in the mail today dated May 13th.

OK this is weird. I live about 20 minutes from BU and I haven't received anything. Should I call on Monday? I should have called today.

What does this mean? Why haven't I gotten a letter?

What does this mean? Why haven't I gotten a letter?•••••Because the personnel in the BU Med admissions office consists of a collection of intellects on par with airport security screeners. . . :D

I didn't get anything in the mail on Friday either. I interviewed in Dec., got the acceptability letter, and now, I'm in the "your application must have blown out the window," pile. Maybe BU sent out waitlist letters only in the most recent batch? Did anyone just get accepted or rejected?

I also interviewed in december and got the acceptability list letter and just on Thursday I got the waitlist letter...oh well...guess i will be going to GW for sure...

Does the waitlist letter come in a little envelope?

I'm sorry for the anal question, but if it comes in a big envelope I have to go through the package people at my school mailroom.... So I just wanna know what to expect.

Yeah, it is a thin small envelope. Good Luck.

BU admissions sucks (sorry had to)

Doctora Foxy:

Hey there! Is BU your #1 choice? I hope you get in. You sound like a really cool, down to earth person.

Good luck.

There admissions committee does not act cool. But the professors there are great. This is what matters more in the long term. But the BU adcom really should act differently than they do....

awww, thanks encee :D BU is my second choice...I'm on the waitlist for my number one at UF. I can't wait to see what happens with BU though! Are you going there (or r u there now)?

Doctora Foxy:
I did the masters program at BU med. I am planning on attending BU however I am waitlisted elsewhere.

I am from L.A., but I really like Boston so I know I would be happy there for med school. It really sucks that it is so expensive, but I think the clinical opportunities are great. Unlike most people, I like the area that the med center is located--in south boston.

Anyways, when I go back to Boston, I have a word or two for the adcom! (not like they would really care what I have to say, but I think they really should be more receptive to student input).

This is what I wish I were feeling
but waitlists make me feel

Foxy,

On monday go ahead and call the bu admissions staff and ask about your status. I did last week and found out that i was waitlisted....i received my letter on sat confirming what i already knew....it came in a small envelope.

okay maybe that was a bit harsh

She's ALWAYS rude to me even when I don't give her my name. I guess every day is a bad day for her. Humph!!

Just got my waitlist letter today.

Ok, I just called and the lady was actually very nice to me. She said they haven't made a decision on my application yet! WTH?! I asked her if that's good or bad and she said it doesn't say.

But anyway, I must have cajones because I asked how many people are on the waitlist and she said about 150. So, if you made it to the waitlist, I would say that's a good thing, since they interviewed 1,000 people. I feel a rejection coming for me though....

Hey Foxy,
I called BU today and they told me the same thing, no decision. The lady who answered said that they were still accepting people and we should know in a few weeks. Hang in there

have you fellow waitlisted folks started on your letter of intent yet?

bump

Congrats on the acceptance Ceez :D

Please give us all the info

who did you interview with? did you ever send in a letter of intent?

Please give us all the info

who did you interview with? did you ever send in a letter of intent?•••••I interview with Dr. Vaughan (who is a truly wonderful person!). I was going to send in my letter of intent today but now I guess I don't have to. :D

Congrats Ceez on your acceptance..they couldn't even wait for you to send the letter back to them :D . If I was in your position I would put in the deposit, sort of like insurance...atleast you know you'll be going to med school somewhere this year. I just got a waitlist letter from BU today (interviewed 1/26). Keep the faith guys...should be hearing soon. See ya

Congratulations Ceez. For those waiting on BU, don't give up hope! I might be withdrawing soon, as I feel I've got a good chance coming off Mt. Sinai's waitlist.

Hey Guys,
I was waitlisted at BU but I already wrote a letter of intent a few weeks ago, so I was wondering what I should do? Should I write another letter, and what would I say..the same stuff? Thanks for ur help!

anyone? hellooo

BU likes to be flattered.

Hi Ceez,
Thanks for the advice. I actually called my interviewer a few weeks before I got the waitlist letter so he knows I'm interested in the school and that it is my first choice. Do you think another letter of intent to the admissions committee is a good idea?

Do you think another letter of intent to the admissions committee is a good idea?•••••i think one letter will suffice, but you could send in additional letters of rec and updates to your application (such as new ECs). you might also want to ask your interviewer what you can do to make your application stronger. i sent an email to my interviewer the day i got the waitlist letter and she told me not to worry. and the next day, i got an acceptance letter :D

i'm wait-listed there too... their admission process sux big time!

Am I the only one who has not heard post interview?

I hadn't heard anything either, and now I withdrew since I got into my first choice school. I definitely got the feeling like they lost my application, but the secretary claimed that they were still making admissions decisions.

I called them today and they said I'm on the waitlist. Finally some news from them! I interviewed in December and hadn't heard a thing! I'm still waiting to receive the letter though. She said another batch of letters will go out in June (prolly to condense the waitlist)

My interviewer told me that the Dean of Admissions retired June 1st, so things were held up because of that. Hopefully they will start moving again.

Has anyone been rejected post-interview? The secretary told me 150 would be on the waitlist, but I don't remember any posts about people being rejected. Anyone know anyone?

Doctora Foxy,
Don't stress, you're not alone....i interviewed in october....got my " we are considering you " letter in december, and have been waitlisted. Now just waiting...good luck to us both (and everyone still waiting).
As far as the post interview rejection....don't know anything.

I called BU to ask where to send my update letter, and they said the office of admissions. Then I asked if I should address it to the dean of admissions, and she said I'm better off sending it to my interviewer who will then give it to the committee. Do you think that's the best way to go? Did you guys ever send letters, and who did you address them to?

Thanks,
Foxy

Doctora Foxy:
I think that you could send your letter to both your interviewer (who interviewed you??) and the adcom (John O'Conner).

The way BU does things is that interviewer presents you to committee, but if interviewer does not go to the meeting where they might be looking at your application, then your update letter might not be brought to their attention.

To be comprehensive, send to both!

So do you think it's ok to send the same exact letter to both addresses? The worst that could happen would be two of the same letters in my files. What do you think?

I pulled out of a spot yesterday on the phone, but they wouldn't let me do it offical until it is in writting...just to let you guys know they did not require an initial deposit, however, you have to put $500 by june 15th...so spots may open up soon!! Good luck all!

Doctora Foxy:
I think it is fine to send the same letter to both groups. It is an update letter about you and your enthusiasm for the school--so it does not need to vary depending on who you send it to.

Just send the letters out soon--better than waiting longer, cuz who knows when they will make additional decisions!

Yes I procarastinated until today, but when I was about to go the post office to express mail it, I realized my little brother took the car. :p I just needed to vent. The letters will go out ASAP tomorrow morning. :) Thanks again for the advice; I would have only sent it to my interviewer but what you suggested makes more sense. Since I can't afford to express mail both of them, I'll do overnight mail to the adcom office and 2 day priority mail to my interviewer. :)

bump

I still haven't received my official waitlist letter

Another spot at BU is opening up. I just decided to go to UPenn. Best of luck to everyone who is waitlisted.
