Burnout

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This line reads so, so much like an person who's only ever lived and invested in the post-2009 stock market. A rising tide lifts all boats, even the ones that aren't seaworthy.

It doesn't address, or even acknowledge, the risk of the unnamed outside-the-box schemes.

It's glib, nonspecificic, unhelpful, and just a little bit smug. It's obnoxious and annoying.

Wrong

I don’t mean to offend but aren’t you one year out as an attending as well?

I mean I respect the hustle as well as anyone but to discount the opinions and expertise of guys who have done this for a long tome is truly ignorant and arrogant imo.

That’s why I found this thread so ironic.

OP was literally gushing about what a great gig he got a couple of years ago, that he was taking over a contract from a CRNA only hospital and how he was going to whip them into shape and make piles of cash. Everyone here warned him that it sounded like a terrible gig for someone with no experience. Now here we are with a thread titled burnout.

It’s an AMAZING gig anyone on this board would be all over. Start up was hell, but now I’m 3 on 1 off, and I make more than 99% of you. Wrong again. People need to stop making assumptions
And you’re starting a thread on an anonymous internet forum to complain about your burn out? Sounds like a great gig...

Why would I read that ****?
I read that book and it has been highly criticized, but hey, that book also made him rich. I read it after college and I was too broke to put any of it into practice. I also read Peter Lynch's book "Beating the Street" and I think the info was more useful (and practical).

But for the record, I’ve been burnt out since medical school

But for the record, I’ve been burnt out since medical school

You live once. I've stated my plans to transition out of medicine sooner than later (I'm not "retiring," just changing my sources of income/revenue stream). If you feel burned out for so long, you should really explore other options outside of medicine. Personally, I'm working on a couple of projects with my team (wife and brother in law) and I also trade in the stock options and crypto market (Yes the market is down, but I've made good profit trading in it 🙂). I call it "reclaiming my time" and not being tethered to the hospital anymore. I'm blessed that I'm in a position to work on those goals
(along with the full support of my wife) and have working capital to work at it. We know it's not an overnight process, but one that will take time.

But once the time is right, I will execute my plan of separation from Medicine (I plan on doing locums initially and working the bare minimum to maintain BC status), and continue with our entrepreneurial endeavors. Good luck to you and hope you find your Nirvana. PM me if you have any questions.

Crypto and options eh? Get back to us in 5 years and let us know how that's working out for you. Ether is $190 now, getting in?
