C/O 2019 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes. On my end, it says both the 2012 and 2014 scores (I chose to send both because I wanted schools to see the improvement) were sent but who knows if that's right? I know someone who applied last year to Illinois and they never got his GRE scores even though on the ETS site it said they were sent.
Im currently having issues with my GRE scores and Illinois as well. I emailed Illinois and they told me that even thos ETS says they have received my scores they download them in batches on Mondays so they havent "actually" received them yet. Stay on top of them. Im going to email them again Tuesday since they said they would download new scores Monday. SO STRESSFUL

If it makes you feel better, one of my LOR's sent me a copy of her letter, AFTER she submitted it to VMCAS and my last name was misspelled..... YIKES. I was so upset and embarrassed, but did not have the heart to tell her. BUT HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?!
It's possible it was a typo. I wouldn't worry about it, as long as it was a positive and thoughtful letter otherwise.

Good luck everyone! I submitted my VMCAS two and a half weeks ago and I'm still waiting for it to be verified.

Hello, I applied to UC Davis, University of Georgia, and UF which is my IS. I could have sworn I read somewhere that all these schools do not require the analytical writing portion of the GRE so I skipped it when I took the GRE, to simply not lose mental focus on what I thought was the important parts of the test. I got an email today from UGA stating that they have not received the analytical writing portion. They told me if I can show them where I read that it was not required they might give me more time to retake the test and finish my application. I am having trouble finding that site, and their school site (unfortunately for me) clearly states that you need the analytical writing portion. I'm beating myself up for not having gone to their site to reassure that it was necessary. Quite honestly the only school I am seriously considering going to is UF since it is IS, however I want to show that I am not just applying to one school as it may look bad (especially in interviews). Will UF ever find out that my application for other schools are incomplete? Any advice? 🙁

I haven't been able to find anything that specifically says they don't need your Analytical score. Are you sure you hadn't heard that just many schools don't factor it heavily into their consideration, because I think that's true for the most part, but I've never heard of anyone skipping it and not submitting a score at all ( I didn't even think you could skip it, but I took the old, computer test, so maybe you couldn't at the time). The AAVMC page of UC Davis does say Quant scores for GRE evaluation, and Florida mentions looking at Verbal and Quant, but no one explicitly states that they don't ever look at the Analytical portion . I also checked the AAVMC descriptor page/websites for this info.

As for whether or not schools will find out, I don't think VMCAS will tell them, but they might ask where else you applied/interviewed during your own interviews, so it could come up there. Only advice I have is really to keep your head up and see how the year goes and maybe retake the GRE if any schools have a later GRE deadline for receiving scores.

I don't know for sure but the UCD page makes it seem like you are required to take all three portions. From their website: "All applicants are required to take the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) which includes the verbal, quantitative and analytical writing sections" even though they only consider the quantitative section. I'm not really familiar with their admissions process so I could be wrong.

BTW, why do you think it will look bad if you only apply to one school? I've read this sentiment a few times on here and I'm wondering if it's something you heard from admissions folk or if you heard it from other pre-vetters? Just curious.

I think it's largely something spread among pre-vets, not from adcoms. Some people think it is too risky to put all of your eggs in one basket. But I know there are quite a few people who apply only to their IS the first time. I haven't ever heard anything about adcoms actually caring that you only applied to one school, besides asking in an interview where else you are applying and maybe why you decided on their school.

Yep, that's what I was thinking, too.

How'd you like that Packers-Vikings game yesterday?!

I thought it was awesome! The perfect end to dominating over the Bears earlier in the week. Although the Vikings just didn't look on form in general so... It's looking good for a repeat championship.

I am so excited for football season!! 🙂. BRONCOS ALL THE WAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spoke to someone for UF and was told that the analytical wouldn't even be looked at so it is not necessary. The analytical writing portion does come out but you simply skip it and it doesn't grade it. As long as UF is not aware that my application is incomplete I am not that upset; it just would have been nice for my ego if I could have been able to have a complete application and see if I could get in. Thank you for the positivity 🙂 Hopefully all goes well with UF.

And to address Puffins, I saw that they have scores for analytical in the statistics for the accepted students but they state they only look at quantitative as you said. I emailed them the same day I got the message from UGA just to make sure. Still waiting for a response x.x and I heard from other students that applying to only one school may be strange to some schools. I really wouldn't want to lower my chances of getting into UF just because I only applied to there.

Oh believe me, I would have ditched Cutler for McCown in a heartbeat after last season! Too bad I don't own the team...

I'm starting to regret applying to out of state schools. The financial side is scaring the crap out of me.

which OOS did you apply to?
Ohio and Illinois. Ohio because they have a great LA program, and you can apply for in-state after your first year. Illinois because it's relatively close to my family and boyfriend.

Yeah Ohio State isn't a bad one to choose, it was in my top 6, but I ended up only applying to 5. And I love the Illinois school, I love the area, but it was just too expensive for me, so I feel yha.

I desperately wanted to apply to Michigan as well, but I couldn't justify the price tag.

Why can't they all just be the same price OOS. Would take all of the strategic financial stuff out of it and just allow us to apply to the program that we just like a lot 🙂

Ohio's the best, so clearly you should have applied there 😛 I kid, I kid.

Meh, I ended up with VMR (IS) NC-state (can get IS after first year) Missouri (can get IS after first year) Wisonsin (cheapest OOS), and Kansas State (legacy and I love the vet school there). I really wanted to do Ohio state as well, but I decided 5 schools was just right for me this cycle.

I really wanted to apply there but I wasn't going to be able to do the whole PPI thing 🙁
Though I know you won't need it for next year 😉, it's really simple. I just asked all my (4) LORs to do it the same time they did my letter. Was <15 minutes, I think.

I had set up all my LORs before I left Pittsburgh for the summer, didn't find out about the PPI thing until I as already back home, and wasn't going to be able to contact half of them for most of the summer. But if I do end up having to reapply I'll probably add Ohio back in 🙂

Yeah that was kind of lame. :/ But I'm sure you'll have luck at another school you applied to!!

2 weeks after I submitted the applications... How come the transcripts are still not verified.... (Granted I have courses from 1996-now from 5 different schools)

I just found out about the PPI so you guys can probably imagine the panic mode im in right now...

Don't panic! The PPI doesn't take very long for your evaluators to fill out

Ahh okay! Thankfully I am close with all of my references because I work for them so I am just waiting for one more to wrap hers up and then I am submitting! Hopefully tonight! So thankful I am on this forum and for everyone on here or else I would have missed that. I dont even know how. I literally am a spaz about this whole application process and have been checking deadlines and everything. Completely over looked it!

First time in the application cycle, but have been a long time lurker on SDN. Non-traditional over here, left school '06. Went back to school just finished bachelors and killed it. My IS school is Purdue, Go Boilermakers! Submitted my VMCAS on Oct 2nd with but minutes to spare. I've got some prereqs to take in the spring, so the thought of that and the waiting for my application to get verified....jeez-alou. Good luck everyone!

Just got VMCAS verified! yay!! Now waiting for what feels like decades to hear from my schools...:whoa:

So I just realized that I only sent 2 out of 3 of the GRE scores I have to 4 of my schools (when I sent them immediately following the exam I clicked send all..) for some reason I spaced when sending to the additional schools and did my most recent 2 scores. One school is to Tufts that doesn't use vmcas (so I'm assuming that one is fine because they wont know I reported 3 scores in vmcas). I really dont want to pay an additional 120 bucks to send my scores again to 4 schools ($27 each).... When ETS reports the scores do they report all test dates but only the 2 scores? Or should I email the schools asking if I should re-send? I dont know what to do.... help!

Wait... I'm confused. Are you saying some of the schools you applied to only received 2/3 of your GRE score sets? Or that none of them received all 3 scores? If you clicked the send all button after you took your test, then I guess ETS made an error in delivering your scores. Or maybe you mean you sent your GRE scores to some schools later after you took the test? Unless the score set that didn't make it was your best score, I wouldn't do anything about it. There's a reason schools only accept official scores from ETS. I have a feeling the self-reported GRE score section on VMCAS isn't really that important. I'd definitely contact the schools if you think it will adversely affect your application or if the missing GRE score is better. I don't think ETS would report test dates without reporting a score. That just doesn't make sense to me. Good luck!

Tufts states specifically on their website that you must send all scores, even though ETS offers the Select a score option.

Yeah I saw that in tufts that's why I freaked out. No it's not my best...it's my worst, but only by like 2 points lol! And yes that's correct I sent all scores to 4 schools right after exam. Then later had to send to my other 4 schools and I only did my recent 2 thinking it was fine. Then saw tuft's thing and then freaked out. I guess I can send all 3 to tuft's only, since they made a big deal about it. Hmmmm I guess I can call the other schools and see how they feel. Idk why they would care if they didn't have my official worst score...Hahahha

I was double-checking the admissions timelines for the schools I applied to, and I noticed all of the dates they gave for letting people know if they got in were "decision letters mailed..." followed by a date. I'm confused because I've always heard of people getting a phone call, rather than a letter? Could it be possible to hear back from the school before the date they have listed, then?
