So I decided to get a little ahead of the game and make a thread for those of us that will be applying for class of 2019, just so we can get to know each other, help out with the VMCA (I'm a re-applicant, so I've dealt with that side of things), ask each other about schools, etc.

A little info about myself, I am a senior in Animal Science at Purdue, graduating this coming December. Schools I'm thinking of applying to are Purdue, Iowa State (maybe), Illinois, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

This thread is slightly terrifying. When you guys start classes, I will be in clinics. Good luck!

This should be my first year applying 🙁
good luck to all 2019 applicants!:luck:
I'll be starting this thread in a couple years 😀

Swings, what's stopping you, if it's okay asking?

Aw, yay! Time flies! Good luck, 2019'ers! You got this! 🙂

I just don't think I'm a competitive applicant yet. Only about 300 vet hours and 500 animal hours, and a below average GPA. I have enough pre-reqs to apply and could squeeze the remaining couple this next year, but I'd rather wait for a couple years to be competitive and save some money and heartbreak by trying to apply this cycle. Although, I'm debating whether to just apply to my IS school to get some feedback. I'll probably decide last minute 😛

If it helps, I applied this past cycle just to my IS as a test and I feel like it really helped me know what to improve on for this coming cycle. Plus, I got a head start on the VMCAS application.

Looks like I'm going to be a reapplicant this next cycle, looking forward to learning about all of you!

Now I just need to figure out where I'll be applying, and hopefully figuring out where I went wrong this cycle. 🤔

Did you e-mail the places you did apply to and ask for feedback? The vast majority of schools are more than willing to at least say why you weren't chosen as an admitted student.

Thanks gwen 🙂 yeah it'll all depend on my finances. If I have the money to spend, I'll go for it and apply for Ss&Gs. I just recently decided not to apply for a couple more years, so I already have about 3 drafts of a PS haha so the only work will be the actual application process and I already planned on getting more experience summer. We'll see as I'll still be stalking this thread regardless hehe

And so begins the 10 month long application cycle... good luck everyone!

Yeah, and I really only applied to three school this cycle. My waitlist at IS was really the one that surprised me, they start file reviews around May 19th.

Wooooo!! Good luck everybody! And don't hesitate to ask those who have already applied any questions you have about the process!

ahh, it really is happening! i'm stressed and panicky, but oh so very excited!
first time applicant this year here, good luck everyone!

Yay! After 2 years of lurking around on here I finally have a reason to post!

I'm so excited and so stressed out at the same time. I did my undergrad at Davis and will be applying here, Western, K State, Michigan State, and University of Illinois.

Class of 2019? Now that's just crazy talk. I haven't even adjusted to the idea that I'll be meeting the class of 2018 in a few months... Time flies when you're having fun...or whatever it is you'd call vet school...

I think you meant "time flies when your brain is melting" but yes, crazy! This means we were sitting around getting ready to apply 2 whole years ago!

Good luck 2019 applicants!

Good luck 2019'ers! It's an emotionally taxing process, but you have plenty of support from all of us! And it's worth it in the end! 🙂

I should be applying this year, but I think I'm going to wait until the c/o 2020 cycle so that I have some extra time to gain more vet experience; I'm a bit on the low side...

Best of luck to all of you c/o 2019ers! We're rooting for ya'! :luck:

Reapplying this year and applying to master programs in Parasitology. I am going to have to make some tough decisions about continuing with vet med or doing Parasitology. I am going to reapply this year to more schools and hopefully get better feedback, but I am starting to think vet school is just not ever going to be for me.

Scary to think applications are opening so soon, but also exciting. Good luck to all of us c/o 2019!

Good luck, c/o 2019 applicants! :luck:

You have an exciting and stressful year ahead of you!

Woo hoo! Best of success, Class of 2019! It's hard to believe that this time last year all of us 2018ers were right where you're standing. It will be a great year for y'all- plenty of stress, and hopefully much joy in the end. We here on SDN are rooting for all of you. Good luck!! :luck: :xf:

Good luck, potential 2019ers! We're all here to support you. 🙂

I am SOOOO excited about this thread! Can't believe I'm FINALLY applying. I'm in undergrad at MHC Queens College, and I plan on applying to tufts, penn, and cornell. Good luck everybody!

Woot C/O 2020 applicant! 😛

And good luck to current 2018 c/o applicant & 2019 c/o applicants! Hope to learn a lot through your future forum posts.

You think the stress ends after a year? 😵 Good thing the excitement doesn't end either, or we'd all be in serious trouble. 😉

Good luck potential 2019ers! Can't believe I was in your place not so long ago!

Yep. I know there's technically a few more weeks of wait lists before I should panic but it really looks like I'm not getting accepted this cycle. Now to figure out if I have time to address the suggested improvements for next cycle.

Hello fellow c/o 2019 applicants! I'm finally a first-time applicant and will be applying to OSU, UF, Purdue, MSU, K-State, Tennessee, Cornell, and maybe a few others. Hopefully this is a lucky application cycle for everyone!

😱Time flies! Good luck, all!:luck: SDN people will be cheering you on!

Woot C/O 2020 applicant! 😛

And good luck to current 2018 c/o applicant & 2019 c/o applicants! Hope to learn a lot through your future forum posts.
I saw your post and for about half a second was really confused how I could have posted here already and not remembered it. And why my avatar changed.

Hello! I am another first-time poster, and I will be a first-time applicant, applying to Purdue, Ohio State, Illinois, and Michigan State... I'm so excited to be a c/o 2019 applicant!!

I am SOOOO excited! (Despite the nightmare I had last night on being a very incompetent and bad veterinarian...) :scared:

I can't hide my excitement, and keep telling my friends and family about how excited I am to be applying this year. (My plan was to apply next year - but I squeezed in the classes and fairly good amount of experience so yay!) but since none of my friends are prevets, they don't understand. 🙁 If I hear one more "why don't u become a doctor" ill scream. I AM in fact I will a doctor if I'm lucky/good enough to get in.

So I might just come to this thread constantly and say this because u guys will understand: this is so exciting! :xf:

Oh and planning on applying to Cornell, VMRCVM, Michigan, UPenn, Tufts, Oklahoma State and Western and maybe couple of others also. Trying to apply to as many as possible 🙂

Is it okay if I ask why you're deferring? Just curious, you don't have to answer.
I don't mind at all! Penn lets you defer for pretty much any legitimate reason, and I'm looking to become a PA resident to get in-state tuition. I'm also trying to get a job at a lab to get more experience; I might want to apply for the VMD/PhD.
