**class Of 2013**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah...from all the talk going on, i doubt im gonna get in this year =/
so i guess im already looking at next year.
my shortcoming was not enough time with a DO (spent too much time with local MDs), a low MCAT (first time though), and applying LATE in the cycle.

i figure that I should stand a good shot with a higher MCAT and completing my apps early though.
i just cant stand to wait around anymore, im not getting any younger!

i gotta think of something fun to do in the off-season though...anyone want to move to hawaii with me????

I'm already going to be what, 300,000 dollars in debt at the end of this? Might as well tag on some more. Sign me up. Wait, even better, when are they going to build a DO school in Hawaii?

What is everyone thinking of doing their glider year? Besides flying out to all their interviews, of course.

I'm from the great state of Ohio - so I will definitely apply to OUCOM - the others are still being sorted out - my MCAT will also be a deciding factor

I'm from Dayton....you?

the DO class of 2013 thread has more posts than the MD class of 2013 thread...... that means we are cooler right?

Ha sure! ^^

I'm freaking out here. Everyday consists of anxiousness. I really don't know how I haven't worried myself to death. I swear....my daily quote is " My life is in shambles" I just cannot stand the uncertainty. Anyone else like this?

I suppose part of this is due to my 3.24 GPA, MCAT on April 5th, hoping to rock a ~30+ and have applications done/in by the 1st week of June.....hope by the grace of god I can get in somewhere. I look forward to attacking this process with all of you and wish the best!

I feel the same way!
between class, studying, working, volunteering, shadowing, research, Kaplan-MCAT study, and executive duties - I honestly don't know which way is up at times!

I'm a hopeful call of 2013 as well, but am taking a MCAT prep course this summer and will take the MCATS in august... if all the rest of my applications are done, is that still too late to apply? most of you guys seem like you're taking the May MCATS, am I shooting myself in the foot taking it later?

I have a feeling that you're likely to be ok, but Ive never been through this process before, so Im sure my opinion means very little (hence the heavy qualifying of my statement).

I'm the only one that I know of who is applying in June (besides people here). I dont know many pre-medies tho. Several people are either August or September MCATers, so at least you're not alone. Maybe search through the forum? See if you can find answers to similar questions.

You can do it bud. I am applying early due to a lower GPA. Better marks will make later apps more forgiving...

MCAT April 18..need 6 LOR's and personal statement done for school's review committee in May! Trying to apply as soon as possible when apps come out (figuring I dont have to retake the MCAT)
Class of 2013 Hopeful 🙂

Oh boy I hope you're right Diver.....I am not good with prolonged suspense.

private Catholic - not large - so I don't know if I would classify it as major

Ah kk, I've been up there to Elyria, Lakewood St. Ed., Padua, that area.

If you still have the uniform, I would suggest wearing it to your interviews.

Hey, if the pope approves of it, I can't imagine anyone else would find it inappropriate.

Honestly, who can argue with the pope?

I'm going to have to learn the Britney Spears dance for my interview - who needs a personal statement when you have killer dance moves?

you could always make a video like legally blonde. that might work pretty well, you never know!

can you submit the acomas stuff w/o an MCAT? just to have it all ready to go? for example if i'm taking the MCAT in may or june...can i alrady have my acomas stuff filled out just w/o an MCAT? maybe even submit it before my scores come in? or is that not wise?

is it similar to AMCAS? just inserting grades and schools and what not?

your brain has the "figuring it out" gene.
nothing more matters in my estimation.
except love and politics

That is fine. It would be best to go ahead and have it ready to go and add the MCAT scores when you get them.

I submitted my app to AACOMAS and it was sent out to the schools before they had my MCAT score. I just released it to AACOMAS once it was available and they sent it for me.

Ok, good a topic I need help with:

I take the MCAT May 10th - results should be in June 10th

If I am not happy with my results - I will take the MCAT over at the end of June

Can schools reject you based on your first MCAT, even though you specified that you would be taking it again? Or do most put you on hold until your second attempt comes in?

Refering to DO schools specifically

That is a good question! One I would like to know the answer to, as well. How would you let them know that you're taking a second attempt anyway?

from what I have heard there is a section on AACOMAS that lets you specify if you will be taking the MCAT over again - am I right veterans?

Tepi - I think we are going to have to go with "it's possible"

Well honestly schools can reject you whenever they want pretty much. That being said, most will just put your app on hold until they receive your new scores. Yours will be available end of July so you'll still be in a good position app wise. How unhappy are you with your MCAT score?

Yes you can specify a date for a future MCAT, at least as far as I know.

I haven't taken the MCAT yet - just being a neurotic pre-med 🙂

Ahhh I see. Sorry I just didn't read carefully enough. One thought I have for you though is if you are not satisfied with your May score I would give yourself more than 2-3 weeks to retake. Maybe aim for a July or August date at the latest. You just really don't want to retake a couple of weeks later only to do the same or worse. Of course if you continue studying after you take it that would give you a month and a half before retaking it.

UNECOM is your first choice but you're only thinking of applying there? 😕

Hey. Nope, I'm def. applying to many other schools. I just don't know which other ones yet.... is it possible to apply to all??? 😀 haha But yea I'm hoping to stay near home, but we'll see....How about you?

definitely agree - thanks for the reply!

i thought one of the big things w/ the computerized MCAT was that scores got back in 2 weeks.......is that out the window now or what?

They're supposedly working towards a two week release but haven't gotten it done just yet.

I actually thought it was funny because you said that it's your first choice but you're thinking about applying to UNECOM, not definitely going to. 😉 I'm hoping to not be applying in the fall at all. My husband has been accepted at AZCOM and I have my interview on the 29th of this month. I would love an outright acceptance but anything other than a rejection at this point would be great!! 😀

my thoughts are that the AAMC are a bunch of idiots. They will never get the reports down to two weeks. NEVER! I think the paper test was much more reasonable and better. After taking both the computer and paper, AAMC has taken two steps forward and one step back in my opinion. However, good luck to everyone during this cycle! apply early early early. It will make the difference.

Doesn't that mean they are left with a net movement of one step forward? Which, I am assuming, is a good thing? You lost me right around there. Could also be that physics has turned my brain to mush.

When I applied I had my first MCAT score on my application and I had my future MCAT retake date listed as well. I was not rejected on the basis of my first MCAT score, but was put on hold at most schools until my retake score came in.

Good Luck :luck:

Thanks - I'm just being the overactive premed and devising Plans A-Z in relation to the application cylcle 🙂
