How do you even plan the next year of your life financially? How do I know whether to take out gradplus loans? I'm honestly rather POed about it.

Feeling a sudden urge to go check my financial aide. Ohio State seems to have their act together on the financial aide front, we had all our paperwork about a month ago and I got mine done pretty quickly and everything looked good. Will have to keep an eye on it, apparently just because it's right once doesn't mean it stays that way . Like it isn't bad enough we are going into so much debt!

You wanna, like, email me your doc?? I did the entrance financial counseling whatever thing on student loans.gov, and they made you do your own, and it scared me lol. Definitely need to record every CENT I spend!

finally got things rolling today - financial aid person is supposed to call me at 10am tomorrow (for a scheduled phone appointment) about my loan/financial aid/scholarship debacle, i called the hospital to check on the status of my vaccine records for rabies - should be getting them by the end of July. apparently it's 4-5 weeks processing time NOT the 10-15 days that they posted on their website. good thing i sent it in on june 15th! 😱

feels good to be checking things off my to do list though.........but still so much stuff left to do!

btw, for all y'all KSU peeps out there - my rabies titers were sent out to the rabies lab at KSU so you can feel special! 😀

So long as you got the verification emails, you are finished. UC Davis has their own timeline for processing these items. From the MyAwards website:

Processing Timeline

• The Financial Aid Office will begin processing completed and approved Master Promissory Notes electronically in late July for Graduate and Professional students, early August for Undergraduate students for loans that have been accepted.

If your page is not updated by August 1st, I would storm the financial aid office and go nuts. Until then, enjoy your summer. 🙂

sidenote: for those who haven't heard of it mint.com is a fantastic website that pulls all of your accounts (savings, checking, credit, investments, retirement, loans, cars etc) into one place, tracks your spending, net worth and how much money you have. It breaks it down into really nice graphs and charts tracking where you spend your money and how much you have left. You can also set "goals" and "budgets" and have it help you reach them as well! I've really liked it and it has helped give me an idea of how much I am spending on stuff every month

(especially for those of us that don't exactly keep a balanced checkbook 😉)

I leave for Scotland on Tuesday. I have a flat that I am renting and able to stay in for the first week that I am there. I had already set up to look at another flat once I arrived that I was really interested in, had a decent price and that I was most likely going to rent while in school. Well the lady e-mailed me this morning and said that she has rented out that flat and it is no longer available.

Now I am stuck searching again... I am really hoping that I can find a place to stay in that first week that I am there. Now I have to get back to searching for places and sending out emails to set up meetings, I have a crap ton of other stuff to do and now that is just one more thing on top of everything else.... Feeling really stressed out now.

Hopefully, everything will fall into place and work out but I am just not sure... And I really need to sell this car the money I make off of it is my down payment on the flat in Scotland...

I hear you about being stressed moving to another country... but it will all work out... flats tend to get rented fairly quickly over here and are available immediately so I am sure you won't have trouble finding a place. When I moved over to Ireland last summer I lived in a hotel for one week with 2 dogs while I looked for a flat to rent because places were rented out so quickly it was impossible to have it settled prior (plus you had to see them in person).... I managed to find a place and move in within a week and that is with 2 dogs, so I am sure you will be fine!

I can't wait until a much needed vacation, because I've seriously gone a bit insane constantly thinking and talking to myself (yes, even in public) about my research to help prepare myself for every and any question I could get asked during my defense... even the crazy homeless guys who ride the bus are starting to give me weird looks.
