@WildZoo are you running the noob game again?

Ugh it wont tag her can someone else please?
Who needs tags, I read all the threads eventually

Maybe, it kinda depends...haven't solidified my winter break plans yet. A strong maybe though.

Hope your interviews went well @vethopeful_2 and @forks4spoons! Not sure if I met either of you but I was giving tours (though i left a little early yesterday).

Yesterday was sooooo amazing. I can’t even begin to describe it!!!!! Now to wait till February!!! Ahhhh!!!!

Yay, glad you enjoyed it! I remember feeling the same way after my interview 😀 I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Hey! Anyone on here possibly willing to give my Davis PS a quick read over? I think that it is pretty much done... but with a 2000 character limit and a prompt that's broad AF, I would love a second set of eyes to double check that I ultimately answered their question.

I'm just now seeing this!! Everything exceeded my expectations, especially all of the current students who were there to help! I'm officially hooked on UT. As if I weren't already.... haha.

But now that I'm thinking about it, I actually think you did give the tour that I was on, since you said awhile back that you have curly hair 🙂 I can't believe I am just now making the connection! I had on a yellowish-orange button up under my suit and short blonde hair, and I asked about the client interaction we will get as students. Not sure if that helps

I think I was the only curly-haired blondish person giving tours, so yay! I'm gonna be honest...I am terrible at recalling people in that way, but if I see you again sometime (fingers crossed!) I would probably recognize you. I'm glad you had a great experience!

Is there no Mississippi State c/o 2023 hopefuls thread? I can't find it, but I could have sworn there was one. Happy to create one, but didn't want to make a duplicate in case anyone knows where it is. In any case, I received this email this afternoon (this is just a piece of it):

"We have received all current components of your VMCAS application and it is complete at this time. Your file is now awaiting review by our Admissions Committee.

Here's our process from here--we review all applicant files this fall. Decisions regarding interviews should be made by December and emails will be sent to each applicant by mid-December indicating whether or not he/she is invited to interview"

Best of luck!

Would also like to know if there is a page to follow!

I interviewed at Midwestern this week. The dean held a nice speech about the university, and everything sounded great (except for the tuition:laugh:). I just wanted to follow up on one of the items that he mentioned, and I am not able to find anything online. He mentioned that 4 veterinary schools have recently received probationary accreditation. Where can I find information about this? Does anyone know more about what this means?

This page explains the different accreditation statuses: https://www.avma.org/ProfessionalDe...ges/coe-pp-accreditation-classifications.aspx
Basically a school on probationary accreditation had major deficiencies found at their most recent COE site visit, so they're placed on probationary status and given 2 years to correct them. I know Oklahoma State is one in that situation, not sure about the other three. But it doesn't mean the schools are in imminent danger of being shut down, or that they're necessarily providing a poor education.

Do you know if the AVMA lists the individual schools accreditation statuses anywhere?

Oklahoma state just had UF's large animal head of dept head out to be the dean so hopefully they will get back to fully accredited. He's an awesome dude and is a great professor.

Oklahoma State names Dr. Carlos Risco Center for Veterinary Health Sciences dean - Oklahoma State University

He helped me with advice on getting into my masters and kept tabs on me through my friend in his old dept. He's a good teamwork guy so I think they will pull it together 🙂

It had more to do with number of clinicians per student. We’ve been slowly adding people. State budget cuts hit us hard about 5 years ago, and we’ve been transitioning as a good number of profs are retiring. Nothing that has affected our learning really. 🙂

I was surprised because I hear so much good stuff about Oklahoma state. Some of my shadow vets were from there. Budget cuts hit UF animal sciences hard this past year so I sympathise.

I just met him! He came to give a lecture on bovine obstetrics at my school the other week. He was super nice!
He took a paniced pre-vet who had been denied entrance to a ms program and gave me advice calmly and kindly. He really did help and I was able to talk to the ombudsman and get things handled. My friend misses him. If you are further interested in bovine repro though and lactation physio look up Dr.Laporta's research from UF ansci.

:eyebrow:
Curious about the reasoning/context of him bringing that up without explaining what it means

I have a question about updating schools with changes since I submitted my app! Since submitting, I've had a research paper published and have another in review. Should I email schools about this? I've heard some schools accept updates while others don't, but I'm having trouble finding this info.

The context was his presentation of the school, which was very positive overall. He mentioned that he used to work for University of Illinois Veterinary Medicine and loved his job there (he spoke highly of the school). He was then proudly describing how Midwestern received full accreditation this year, and he compared it to the other schools that are probationally accredited at the moment. He did mention the schools by name, and he specifically pointed out that "the famous UPenn" is on probation (ivy league and all). He did not explain what probationary accreditation means which is why I wanted to clarify for my own understanding. I really don't want to say anything negative about any school or how they choose to stand out to new students, but I just like to check the sources before passing judgement. Please note that I could have understood the situation differently than anyone else who was there.

Yeahhhh to me that sounds like ****-talking other schools without context to a room full of people who for the most part probably have no idea what the accreditation process entails. It is neither professional nor a good look, but that's just like, my opinion man.

Yep I fully agree. Probationary accreditation only means they have some sort of deficiency that could be very minor that they need to fix. Doesn’t mean they aren’t a quality school, putting out quality vets, or that students are at risk of not graduating from somewhere AVMA accredited or that the school is going to lose accreditation.

 Most schools have a minor deficiency, or even a major one, pop up at some time or another, unless they have all the money in the world. And in most cases they're already working on it before the AVMA even says anything official.

To clarify, I was not trying to diss the other schools by posting the most recent update. My own school is on there. Probably should have mentioned it was common for schools to have some minor issue and it's not a big deal usually when I posted it 😛

Didn't want your question to get lost in the other conversation. I would contact the schools, I don't know if any of them list specifically whether or not they take updates, and they are going to be the best source for that info.

Lol the thought didn't even cross my mind, I took your post as neutral providing sources 🙂

Yep same.
Pretty sure illinois was on there a year ago.

I know Iowa and MSU said that the app is closed and they don't take updates. I had some pretty extensive research come down the pipes and I couldn't list it 🙁

Anyone else come to the realization that there are more applicants this year then any other year and are totally stressed or just me???

I feel this way to an extent, but we should keep in mind that just because there are more applications doesn't mean that they are quality applications

Also, the surge can likely be attributed to those schools that eliminated their GRE requirement this year and not the rest (correct me if I'm wrong)

Where did you see that?? I hadn't heard that!

Sent from my SM-G960U using SDN mobile

A couple of the schools just came out and said it, I know Iowa had a dramatic increase, likely because they eliminated both GRE and interviews this year. And then Michigan State sent out an email update saying they had a 41.2% (or something like that) increase as well.

And Colorado state had 500 more applicants than any other year also
