Careful when panic scheduling new interviews friends, I just accidentally rescheduled one of my existing interviews while trying to respond to a new one (on my phone in ERAS)

Thankfully no harm done, figured it out quickly and got the new one scheduled, the previous one is just now at a way later date

Same, this whole thing is a mess of "oh its only been a week there is still lots of time" and "my god its been a whole week why dont I have all my interviews yet???"

Anyone here who got an II from Lenox Hill IM able to get a confirmation for an interview date? I had replied back very shortly after getting the II (9/30) but have not heard anything.

They'll get back to you. Same thing happened to me last year

Got my first non-audition EM interview today! Definitely not one of my top choices but at this point I'm not being picky. Just nice to know my app doesn't completely suck.

If you get an advanced interview, would a program be willing to also extend a prelim interview if you reached out to them, even if you haven't yet applied to that prelim?

Lolz why would they do that if you didn’t spend the time to even apply?? Prob better chance of sending in a late app then see if they would offer you a prelim interview

Do that! If you actually want to do that prelim. It’s still early so don’t make emotions get the best of you.

Depends on what specialty you're applying to. For example for neurology most places that are advanced either tell you don't have to apply for the prelim year and you automatically get an interview anyway, or you have to apply for the prelim year and you still automatically get an interview with the prelim as well. My first interview invite was at an advanced program, and they sent the invite for both, and they specified if you haven't applied to the prelim yet to go ahead and send in an application even after getting the interview.

such garbage. this morning I had an invite while driving on the highway. Had a similar experieince to yours over this past weekend so I merged 3 lanes and pulled over because I was so scared spots would be gone.

Its just not safe.

idk, I did exactly this and it's worked out well for interview invites but not for my a n x i e t y

No because the first two weeks of oct arent when most of the invites are sent out. mid oct to mid november is when most get sent out

naw, just set up your filters and email to text your phone and be blunt with preceptors that you might have to step away and check your pocket. Have yet to see one get upset when you just tell them whats what.

I would recommend not doing a sub-I, audition, or surgery elective for october though.

Got one from a program that clarifies that they only send the number of IIs that correspond to the number of open dates for interviews. Should be the standard.

Second this. Got my first interview in the midst of an 8 hour car ride. Swerved to pull over and had to hot-spot my phone to my laptop because thalamus mobile wasn't working lol. Whole experience was a cluster.

Nah you'll be fine. I'm on a sub-I and haven't had to schedule anything later than December

Is it true that psych is a bit slower in terms of sending invites? I have decent scores, no red flags, applied to a 100 places, US mid tier MD, have gotten pure silence aside from a couple supplementals. Getting super anxious at this point.

You’ve gotten supplemental apps? I’ve gotten one II to an audition and have heard basically nothing otherwise. I’m basically in the same boat as you, except I’m USDO and applied to 76.

Yeah, actually 4 supplemental apps just asking specifically "why us." I hope psych is just notoriously slow, but hearing about others getting 5+ interviews at this point has me nervous. Not that it's good to compare or anything, I really just want to match somewhere, anywhere!

I have a classmate that told me throughout the cycle they didn't send any. At the end of the cycle, I guess they forgot their story and ended up telling me they sent them out early

Conclusion: up to you. I would personally do it earlier than later, especially if it's a local program

Im freaking out too but dont do that this early. Id wait till late oct early nov. Sending them now shows youre too desperate and theyd frankly be annoyed bc they are trying to review apps as thorough and quick as possible

Have you reached out to programs about that you're gonna take it soon? Heard from some peeps in academic IM that apparently this year they started putting more weight on step 2 just cause step 1 is gonna be pass fail so they're getting into that habit.

Dude now im freaking out even more you serious? I have not reached out to them since ERAS was submitted. I just told them back in the summer that Im taking it in Nov. All my programs said i dont need CK for interviews just ranking but idk if that means they screen me out still bc i dont have Step 2. I just dont know why they would care that I took CK or not if my Step 1 is 250+ and have a very strong app otherwise doesnt make any sense to me. What academic IM peeps are you referring to? PDs? residents? NRMP data? Also which programs. Im legit gonna have a panic attack if this is true and I get screened out after all of the hard work I put into my application since day one of med school so I could match competitive academic IM

FWIW, have talked to multiple people at my school (>10) applying both anesthesia and IM, and only one of them has II outside of our home program. I am not panicking yet, but will use others at my school as a gauge. Probably healthier than using SDN/reddit FWIW.

Yeah I'm assuming the home program bias is pretty real this early (helps me sleep at night)

there is a few other peds programs in my city, really really want to hear for them, would make me feel more confident about hopefully not moving.

PM&R so kinda at the bottom when it comes to competitive specialty but they do get competitive at the tippy top spots.

Im sure you'll be fine man. Its still early. And that was just one program. Doesn't mean all will. Your app is killer so the invites will come in. Just be patient

What worked for me during med school apps was going on walks by myself and asking myself every possible question they could throw out. I'm sure residency questions won't be as "on-the-spot" as med school ones, but I had an answer for all the things they asked me and felt super equipped just by doing the above.

You can google what common interview questions are, but for the medicine-specific ones just look around reddit or think to yourself about the stuff that is going on. I think it's a completely fair question to ask us what we feel about XYZ going on in healthcare (midlevels? We should all have a solid, evidence-based opinion. Covid and vaccination? The same).

Also have some canned questions that are unique that you can pull out of your pocket when prompted. I don't wanna' share mine publicly, but basically you're assessing the stuff that you can't learn on a website!

The interview could be a physician who is all for midlevels and "interprofessionalism" or they could be like the majority of med students and be totally against midlevel creep. I'm not sure if I would say what I really feel in a more polished way or just keep it PC and be open whichever way.

For med school interviews I got questions about NP vs MD, Abortion, Jehova's witness etc.
I think every doctor should be prepared to discuss an opinion, and I think that preparedness could be the point of the question more so than the content of the opinion.

But again, I haven't had a residency interview yet and I imagine the questions will be a lot more softball!
