When do the bulk of IV drops start flowing? December?
Think they should already be coming in. For rehab tons of programs fill their IV already and even waitlist filled. A lot of top applicants just doing hella alot of interviews

What is everyone's thoughts about being in a new program? Like, first class?
I'd rank it but I'd put it last on my list unless you have a really compelling reason to rank something else below it, for the reasons everyone else has talked about.

I might wiggle on that if it's in my number one most desired vacation destination that I've always dreamed of living in, but that's about it.

Live look at me refreshing my email knowing good and well no interviews are trickling in:

Freak Out Reaction GIF by Robert E Blackmon

After having my fill with interviews and getting over getting rejected/waitlisted from other spots now my attention has shifted to doing well in my interviews and seeing if I will get a love letter from programs that send them. It never ends.

Odds someone applying IM can pull off another 3-4 interviews by January? at this point I only have 8 (10 including WL) and starting to freak out. Ghosted by pretty much all of my safeties and 0 for 8 on LOIs. I am fortunate enough to have gotten all of my desired programs but I dont feel “safe” as a DO with 8 interviews rn

Total silence on my end for the past few weeks. Sitting fine on my backup specialty but my primary apps are pretty weak. Seems wrong to think most IIs are done at this point since we're only a month out, yet it seems like a lot of programs are already at waitlist status.

I've also been totally ghosted by literally every community and safety program I applied to. Sent a few LOIs and I'm at an L with every single one.

All that said, I don't think you're done getting invites. Expecting another 4+ over the next few months doesn't seem unrealistic to me.

I feel kind of the same way. Except I'm sitting at a bunch of very random safeties while (what I thought were) surefire safety programs I'd actually be happy at and the university programs in the states I actually have ties to haven't sent me anything lol.

How big of a deal is it if a program gets a 1 year accreditation by ACGME (its a former DO program) instead of the standard 10 year? There is a letter given to the PD on things preventing the 10 year. I am curious if this is something that can just be renewed each year or is this a warning that things need to be fixed.

I think you're fine tbh.

I know someone last year (DO) who took boards late and got her step 2 score back late, and she got a bunch of interviews after she let people know her score was back. So just email everybody you're still interested once your score comes back. If your step 2 comes back anywhere close to your step 1, you may be drowning in interviews after.

Lol maybe it is my Step 2 score! I seemed to have faired decent without it as far as quality goes (even if my quantity isn't great I have been very fortunate to get all my top choices for invites except UVA)

Glad it’s working out !!

I realize this is a major, major first world problem and I’m going to come across as a spoiled brat… but I am so over almost every interview being 8 AM EST when I live in central time rn. I am not a morning person, and I also live in fear of forgetting that I’m in a different time zone and logging in for stuff an hour late. I’ve done it twice already... in my nightmares. I fortunately have not done it yet in real life.

I can only imagine what you guys on the west coast getting east coast interviews are going through.

Or the folks in Hawaii.

Yep, had a guy from Hawaii in one of my recent interviews. It was a west coast program but still would’ve been 4:30 am start for him. Given our speciality, he’s almost certainly applying to programs in the Midwest/east coast, I don’t envy that timing at all

All I can say is LOL. The entire applicant pool is a waitlist? Way to give closure to absolutely no one. Any other programs pulling this crap, or is it just Vandy?

One of the programs I applied to is doing the same thing. They're like we don't send rejections because we put everyone on the WL. Like....ok.

Awesome. Now this makes me rethink what the actual waitlist emails mean. Does anyone know someone who has received an interview offer after a "waitlist" email. I seriously wonder now if waitlists are just an overly polite way of telling a candidate they are rejected

No because Ive gotten actual interview invites only to go to schedule and having to sign up for waitlist spots on particular dates. They are real interview invite emails they just invite more seats than they have and let us scramble. People def get off waitlists. Ive never gotten a “waitlist” email. I am optimistic that December and January spots will open

Just trying to be optimistic or have people told you this?

How much are y'all considering pay/benefits vs. fit in your rank lists?

I interviewed at 2 programs this week that are both in my home city and so will probably end up at the top of my rank list unless I hit upon some surprise gems elsewhere. Program A has a better overall reputation and MUCH better benefits, Program B seems like a much better fit for my specific interests/patient population but pretty low pay for the area. I also enjoyed the interview day at B wayyyyy more (program A's interview day was TOO. LONG.) Money being equal, B would be number 1 easily, but the difference in pay is huge enough (like, $15-20k difference) that life would be significantly more comfy at A so it would definitely hurt to pass on that

Taking everything into consideration, including the money, I would probably choose A

Yes, very special as I receive a cavalcade of rejections. 🤣

Maybe special like "Forest Gump" special...
If you’re eating steak, it might be a special occasion. If you’re eating bologna, you might be special.

I’m on an invisible waitlist - i.e. the program coordinator said she would email me once people dropped - and she assured me that people usually drop at the end of the interview season. I hope it’s true for virtual interviews. I’m sure it was true pre-COVID.
Can we all be cool old non-trads together and wear Velcro shoes and listen to 90s rock
I’m in!

Hope you are correct.

Alright everyone, at 7 IIs. What does everyone think is the chance I can get 4-5 more before the cycle ends?
