At one of my last interviews I was only interviewed by a non-physician, an adjunct clinical faculty member, and a resident. Am I weird in feeling like that was bad? Like they were saving the time with the other folks for different applicants?

Thankfully, this was my absolute lowest ranked program/lowest safety, but damn.

Sounds like a huge red flag.

So would y'all take it as a bad sign if applicants are spread out among interviewers, and one of the interviewers is the PD, but you're not one of the people interviewing with them?

No, I think we cant read too much into this.

See my above post; I haven’t always had a PD interview, but in my last interview I felt like I barely spoke with anyone who should have any authority… probably shades of gray

I've always had a PD or associate PD but I am applying FM.

Last interview I had I joined a zoom, was in a room with a random faculty member and chief, got asked questions and bye bye with no itinerary, introductions, or presentation. Left a bad taste for sure.

I don't think it speaks to your ranking as it may just be a scheduling thing, but if a PD can't be bothered to be there during an interview it does make me leery of the program or how I will be treated as a resident.

Well. It happened to me. Got an invite an hour ago, didn't notice it because I haven't gotten an invite in over a month, no date to schedule. Bummed.
It's been complete silence for me for nearly a month. No invites, rejections or waitlists. At this point I would take a rejection or two so at least I'm not left in limbo and know where I stand.

Just received an invite after 3.5 weeks of nothing (minus some rejections from places I'm not remotely surprised about). Guess invites might be slowly trickling in, but I feel so much relief knowing it's still possible to get some more

Do we think it matters at all to attend a later date of a pre-interview social so that it becomes a couple of weeks after your interview? I can't make the one right before and the next one isn't for a couple of weeks after.

Nah. I’ve had this come up and if the interviewers ask if I went to the social, I just tell them that I had an unavoidable conflict but that I have already reached out to the PC and they are going to include me in the list of people to send the link for XYZ date to. Nobody’s seemed bothered by that.

I think the invites we all have by now might be it. Maybe one or two more odd invites in December but I think everyone's more or less done.

Maybe, but I don't think so. At one of the interviews I had in mid-November, the PD straight up said the amount of applications they'd received was nearly double the volume they typically receive, and she was hoping to have a first pass of all of the applications finished by the end of the first week of December. It came up because I specifically thanked her for responding to my LOI, and she said she would have likely gotten around to me anyway since I'm local, but the LOI got my application yanked out of the pile a little earlier.

I know that's pretty specific, but there is at least one program that hasn't even finished an initial review of applicants yet. I very seriously doubt they're the only program in that position. As long as there are places that haven't finished a first pass of the applicant pool, there are always hopes for more invites imo.

I agree with you, this is prob late in the game with only 1 or 2 trickle but most interviews already out.

Who do you send an LOI to? I have a couple programs I'm disappointed I didn't hear back from.

I typically send mine to the program coordinator and cc the PD if I can find the email. It's gotten me results a couple of times.

I’ve also send follow up LOI saying “yo did I stutter, I like you , I think you should like me back” which has worked haha
I really want to do this but Im afraid of being too pushy. How long did you wait? Im considering doing this one program I am shocked I havent gotten an interview from. I called spoke with PC and sent an LOI both around the same time like a month ago and havent heard anything. I also know they started sending invites super late (Oct 28th or so) so maybe this is premature for me to send? thoughts?

I would send it , I waited like 3 weeks between the 2.

How did you word a second one? Did you just send the same one?
I kinda acknowledged the fact that I sent one already and said the reason I wanted to reach out again was to really bring across how much of a great fit I think I am for this program, then I list some new things that I think makes me attractive tot he program and then reiterate past qualities that already was mentioned in the first email.

Amazing

Keep in mind with letters of interest that programs may also still be digging through their applicant pool, and they just haven’t gotten to reading your letter yet.

I sent one on 11/3, got the response that it was received and being passed on to the residency selection committee on 11/28, and then got the interview invite on 11/29. Why it took them 25 days to figure out that I’d sent them a letter, I have no idea... but apparently that’s happening.

Amazing! Maybe Ill hold off on the second LOI for another week or so its been about 4 weeks now

Dropped another interview. Feels weird every time.
I’m still committed of doing every single one I get, know people will hate me for it but too many programs that I didn’t think of highly come to impress me and jumped ahead in my mental rank list. It’s getting hella repetitive though

I keep trying to imagine doing all of these in person like even 15 preinterview dinners and 15 interviews and a day of traveling just sounds so exhausting!

Yeah I can’t imagine. Got 16 advanced and 9 TY/prelim years which is tiering but ima grind it out

and the cost of inperson interviews also. That is why I hope the zoom interviews will continue as an option going forward. hope to have 15 interviews LOL, especially with the ultra-competitive match that I am shooting for 2 years from now.

I cancelled this one because I got an invite to a program I much prefer and the only open date was the same date as the other one (which had no dates to reschedule). I've turned down one and cancelled 2 more. I received over 25 invites so at this point I feel fairly safe and would rather give the opportunity to others.

You’re doing 25 interviews?! Holy cow

Rockstar status! I knew you were going to do amazing.

How do yall deal with interviews when the interviewer normally the PD doesnt really want to interview you. They seem to have made up their mind that your one of their top candidates and they frame the session around what can I do to make you come here or at least rank us highly. I thought that would make me feel good *it kinda does* but it also knocks me off my normal interview groove and I freeze up a bit. Any advise for people who this happen to.

I just ask endless questions, even if they've been answered elsewhere. And then once you run through all that and whatever BS you usually ask, just admit that they've answered all your questions, and maybe they'll let you go early and get a break before your next one lol

Re-confirming that programs are taking forever to review apps - just got an invite from a program I sent a LOI to on 10/27. This has been the week of getting invites from programs I sent LOIs to in October for whatever reason.

And then you say, "thanks. You did great, and we will be in touch."

Getting exhausted over here. Interviewed at my top choice this week and now just spazzing out on if I will match there. still have 5-6 interviews left. Just so fried, can barely bring myself to look up stuff about programs beforehand.

HATE virtual. Every program just feels the same. if it was not for geopgraphic wants Idk how the hell I would rank these programs. probably just base it on if you have to pay for parking tbh

This x1000. Everything blends together.

Yeah. Thinking back to the earlier programs its hard to keep things straight. I try to take good notes on the call schedule because I feel that matters, but I am now sort of realizing what is important versus what the AAFP and whatever told me to consider important. Hopefully.

Definitely feeling the burnout. I took 4 weeks off and I could barely enjoy them.
