Question about my match scenario: I have matched but of course won't find out until friday where. I have learned that my #1 ranked program (which is my home program) still has 1 spot available for SOAP. Does this mean that I can be confident this residency program will be the name in the envelope I will open on friday??? Is there any reason why they wouldn't rank all Interviewed applicants (me)?
As long as they ranked you somewhere then youre going there

Is there a way to find this list or is it only available for ppl who soap?

I love how our schools already know and the programs find out later today but we have to wait until tomorrow. It’s us this news has the biggest impact on yet we are the last to find out about it.
thought the schools already know?? 8am today

So, yes, you likely matched there.

However, I will say that there are some programs which know that there are going to be a few legends like @dj-Roomba who got unlucky in applying to a competitive specialty who will be available in the SOAP, and thus they make the calculus that below a certain point on their ROL they would be OK with gambling that they could get an all-star via SOAP. This would be an especially brutal twist of the knife coming from your home program... but at least theoretically, that is why a program would not rank all interviewed applicants.

Good luck folks. No matter where you end up... it's only a couple of years, so keep the chin up.

Being on this side of it, we are over here counting down too waiting to see our interns! Everyone is really excited!! We put together a welcome packet from us interns to them, to send out with the initial emails from the program. And set up a meet and greet for next week!

I know it doesn’t compare with the mix of anxiety, excitement, and achievement I had last year. It’s more like just full blown bubbling over with excitement!!!

I can’t wait to meet our new interns!!

Went down my list a little. Sort of sad I didn't get my #1 or #2 but the rest were interchangeable. Nice people where I am at. Just stings a bit.

Back in my day, I opened up my email on Monday and found out I didn't match with 15 programs ranked. That not only stung, but it felt like getting hit upside the head with a two by four.

You are going to get great training and be a great doc. You won't think twice about this in a few years. I get there could be some disappointment based on location, program, etc...but you're still in a great position and have a job for next year!

For me, I was worried about even getting a spot. I didn't get to go celebrate with everyone else (I think I just laid around for about two weeks straight in a pseudo-depression). That is the one thing I regret. I feel I was robbed of that. You haven't been, so get out there and celebrate with your friends/family! Congrats!

Yeah no I get that. I am very grateful for my spot! And its nothing compared to people who had to SOAP or scramble.

I suppose it feels a bit like being blindsided by a place where I did a sub-i, thought I had a good relationship with and all. Those feelings will pass.

I went through the exact same thing two years ago. It’s hard, but you will find a reason to love your program.

Accidental quote?

When that sort of thing in general happens to me, I make up a narrative about it. For instance, the place you did the Sub-i loved you and wanted you there, but they had some of their own people they needed to take care of and there was maybe some nepotism thing that happened. They had you ranked high, but they ended up matching all their people really high as well and they barely missed you.

It helps make it not seem personal.
