Hope everyone's journey is going smoothly, would love some feedback on mine if you have the time to spare--

I'm an URM non-trad in TX with an undergrad cGPA of 3.2 and sGPA 3.1 (far from an ideal gpa, but a strong upward trend)

Spent the last five years as a high school physics teacher.

Realized I still had the urge to go into medicine, so applied for an SMP in medical science. Earned a 4.0.

MCAT score of 513 (only time taken).

Won't list all my ECs & volunteering just to keep things simple for you, but do have decent amount of hours volunteering at a family clinic, boys and girls, etc. Good amount of shadowing hours, as well as hobbies including teaching martial arts to youth as a black belt instructor. LORs include one from an MD, one from my grad professor who also happens to be an MD, one from SMP director, and one from my undergrad prof who also happens to be a professor at one of my state's medical schools.

Looking to apply MD. Have sent in all my TMDSAS secondaries. Waiting on verification for AMCAS. Some feedback would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the forums.

Where did you do your SMP? What advice have they given you? Have you attended any of the TMDSAS office hours or presentations from admissions officers?
Thank you for your response. I did my SMP with Baylor. Have not had a chance to attend any of the presentations as of yet. All in all, relatively clueless as far as my chances are concerned.

Hispanic, and fairly fluent.
You could add these AMCAS MD schools to your application:
Arizona (Tucson and Phoenix)
Colorado
Tulane
TCU
Creighton
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Wayne State
Oakland Beaumont
Belmont
Drexel
Temple
Hackensack
New York Medical College
Vermont
Quinnipiac

I've seen that similar list thrown around very frequently to oos applicants. Worried that such schools must see an influx of applicants, I went ahead and applied to some oos state schools that are a bit on the friendlier side when looking at MSAR. I do have high hopes of staying in state, however. Would you say theres a high likelihood that happens?

Your best chances are your Texas schools.

Mimentor is based in California but is helping Latinos from OOS this year. Sign up for the program and see what they can do to help prep your app and with interview prep.

LMSA is another good resource.

Use the resources from your smp. You’ve paid for them.

I’d add USC, Chicago and Pitt. You’ve gotta shoot your shot. USC in particular if the guys from mimentor tell you to go for it and you can show your dedication to underserved Latino groups.
