I gave my boss an earlier date because I know she won't get it in until the last minute, and I want to have a little wiggle room in case she is late.

I'm planning to submit my application one month from today. :scared:

When I applied last year, I set the due date as about a month before the application was due so if some of my references were busy with other things and didn't get it in on time, I didn't need to panic.

Question to those of you using/used Magoosh: How many practice problems did you have to do before it started to "predict" your score?"
 
My status on VMCAS just updated to Verified and I'm so excited! It happened so quickly - I submitted my application on Saturday night (my transcripts had already arrived a few weeks ago) and they emailed me before noon Monday to say everything is verified and good to go.

I didn't realize they were going to recalculate all my GPAs at this step, but luckily everything came out the way I expected. I've heard of people getting a nasty surprise when their recalculated GPAs turn out lower than they thought so I was anxious about that.

The rest of my summer is going to be super busy (the reason why I submitted so early!) so I hope Davis sends my supplemental soon. I'm not sure whether they wait until after 9/15 or send them as people are verified...

I'm still in the process of picking my words. It's also not very clear how they want us to organize the whole essay. Also, did you put in your predicted number of experience hours for the time of submission to move on in the application?

They send them out in bulk after the deadline. No essay portion though so won't take you too long to fill out.
 
Do experiences need to be listed in chronological order on VMCAS? I remember reading that somewhere, but now I can't find the source. I'm going to have to do a lot of deleting and reentering if so. 🙄

I completed mine, but I didn't really think of it as a traditional essay. I thought of it more as short answer questions. After all, that word limit is way too short to even try writing it as a traditional essay , with several body paragraphs and and well thought out intro and conclusion.

Yeah and it's almost like you know which word you should pick, like which would sound better to the admissions committee.

I agree. I just wrote a few short sentences with each. Some are longer than others

For UGA, i emailed them and asked them (bc i don't think i did mine chronologically last year) and i got waitlisted. But they said they do not have to be in order for UGA. You can do them anyway you like. I personally grouped mine by experience.

I'm about working smarter not harder 🙂

Someone asked this question on the VMCAS webinar on July 8th and Tony Wynne said it doesn't matter since the way the schools import the data from the application they can arrange your experiences any way they want (chronological, by type, etc.). But you may want to double check with the schools you're applying to, to see if they have any preference.
 
I tried to search but had no luck finding the answer to my question: Do schools care more about your quant or verbal score on the GRE? Or are they considered equal? I know the GRE is not a huge factor but just trying to justify taking it again or not.

It depends on what school you are looking at. Davis only looks at quant score. Cornell looks at both equally and its worth 25% of the overall score. some other schools dont really take it into account at all.

I thought the exact same thing! At first I did have a hard time deciding because it seemed pretty easy to tell which word they would prefer. Also, in some word choice categories I fall right on the line between a couple things. For example, for Gregarious/reserved, I am an outgoing introvert. I love socializing and getting to know new people and will talk about ways to solve the worlds problems for hours (small talk is a little awkward), but after a long exhausting day I need to recharge by myself. I couldn't put "gregarious" because then they would think "oh hey she's 100% extroverted!" And I couldn't put "reserved," because then they would think "oh she must hate people." Neither of which are true. I can't just choose the word they are looking for because then I wouldn't be completely honest with them or with myself. So I kinda had to stretch it with that one and put "gregariously introverted," and then give my explanation. If that isn't what they are looking for, then so be it. I want the school where I go to accept me for who I truly am, and not the "ideal candidate" that they want me to be.

That would make things so much easier for me! I've been super busy so deleting and re-adding all my experiences has been the least of my worries. Trying to perfect the PS and additional essays, and studying to retake the GRE has been my main focus right now. Not to mention, I have a list of at least 15 things, all with subcategories to complete all by September 15 (a couple have earlier deadlines), that has been stressing me out. If reordering is truly not necessary, it will lift a great weight off my shoulders!
So I read that someone already found out that UGA doesn't care the order.
Anyone know about WSU and Tufts?

Ah i completely agree. I put reserved because I am definitely not the one to speak up but in a small group of people i trust and feel comfortable around, i can be very gregarious. And i'm definitely more of a one on one person.

I'm retaking the GRE too and am doing the Kaplan study guide. Its all i do after i get home from working a full time job everyday. Aug 27 is my test date and i'm worried my scores wont get there in time :nailbiting:

Yea, completely understandable. I definitely prefer small groups than a large group of people as well. However, because of all the traveling I've done and being in other countries alone, I've had to adapt to be more gregarious. If I hadn't, I never would've become fluent in French.

what is TMDAS?
 
I have a kind of weird question about supplementals.

So way back when, before I knew I was pre-vet, I volunteered with a wildlife rehab organization. The vast majority of my hours are animal experience, but a small number were with a vet observing exams and such. It was only a small handful of hours 5-10 years ago, and I don't remember the vet's name. I looked online, and neither that vet nor the volunteer coordinator who knew me is still there. I was planning on listing it on VMCAS anyway and just not putting a name under contact info (just using the main phone line because someone should be able to confirm I was a volunteer).

However, two of my schools have supplementals that ask specifically for you to break down your vet hours into categories and provide contact info. I feel like it'll be fishy if I put info on VMCAS but not supplementals, like it might look like I'm lying. I also feel like it's weird (and potentially fishy) to call up the director of the organization and say "hi, you probably don't remember me but I need the name and phone number of the vet from 10 years ago." I would like to be able to include the experience because it's one of my very, very few non-small animal vet experiences.

Anyway, what should I do?
 
Does anyone else here have to write a diversity statement or had to have written one in the past? I'm kind of stuck on it (UF and MSU). I could write about being a first generation child of immigrants and spending lots of time growing up in Europe, but I feel like that would be boring.

Many schools have diversity statements and writing about being a first generation student is definitely not boring! Many people struggle with these statements because they think they aren't interesting, but I encourage you to think outside of the box and write about what feels right to you. I wrote one about my interests in public health (not as common amongst applicants) and one about being awkward (lol), so it's not like there's a set thing you have to write about. Being a child of immigrants is definitely a unique thing, though, and with those experiences you probably know more about working with people from other countries, the challenges immigrants may face in accessing healthcare/veterinary care, or how to navigate different cultural values with clients. Just some thoughts.
 
Does anyone know if there is a place I could put that I will be a TA in the fall? I wasn't sure if I should even put it on the application of if it's something I should just bring up in interviews.

If you're getting credit for it you can put it in future semester but in terms of experiences, VMCAS says not to include future things.
 
Ok so the person I asked for a letter of recommendation wants a copy of my application and a letter of intent. Is that the personal statement or something different?

Yep, your personal statement will work fine.
 
Great! In my email I offered sending a more concise letter of intent if that's what she wanted! Got all my letters of rec picked out!! One from my physiology professor, study abroad professor, veterinary pathologist resident, lab animal/PI vet, and veterinary oncologist!!!! The veterinary oncologist said she could write me a positive one, even though it might be more general because I haven't known her for very long. Hope this doesn't hurt me!
 
Sorry if this has been asked before, my search didn't come up with anything at least 😛 When assigning courses for each schools' prereqs in the program materials section do you list every single course you've taken that can fulfill that requirement? For example Edinburgh wants inorganic chemistry and it lists Minimum credits: 1 and Minimum grades: 1 . I have 3 inorganic chemistry classes (from a quarter system) can I just pick the one I did the best in? Or do I have to list all three? I know they end up looking at all your grades anyway but I was just curious. Thanks!
 
Someone has probably asked this already but now that I'm putting my experiences into the actual app (as opposed to a separate doc) I need to make a decision on this...

I have an experience at one clinic. I started out shadowing randomly, then I was hired to a temporary position and worked part time, now they don't need me as much again so I work what I believe is per diem.

Is this one experience or multiple? And if it is one experience what do I classify it as? (Volunteer vs Compensated? Part time vs Temporary vs Per Diem?)

I spent the most hours working part time just because that racks up hours faster. The experience is ongoing though so I'm not sure if that makes a difference as far as classifying it.

Also, if something is both temporary and part time... which does it get marked as? Does it matter?

Oh, thanks so much! I will still try to put them in chronological order but I will stress less about it now if things don't turn out perfect. 🙂
 
@Wyatt'sAunt0903 @peteypie @brownswissfanatic Just popping in to say hi as I'm also working on my UGA app right now 🙂. I'm a non-traditional, in-state and UGA is the only school I'm applying to because it's the only school I'd accept an offer from (a little nerve-racking).

I just took the GRE yesterday and am really happy to have it off my plate. @brownswissfanatic I only used MaGoosh and thought it was really helpful - I took the GRE 6 years ago for my masters and did well - but I took it in my country of service while I was in the Peace Corps so traditional study platforms weren't an option. I only used MaGoosh for approx 3 weeks this time and improved on that score so I think it was a good investment. I'm sure everyone's experience varies, but I scored 10 points higher on the actual test than MaGoosh predicted on both my general practice problems and practice full-length test, so that was a nice surprise as well! Hope you have a good experience with it - I thought the questions were dead on in structure and content in comparison to the actual test (you may have already taken it before and already know all this, but I was excited about how well MaGoosh worked for me 🙂 ).

@Wyatt'sAunt0903 I also work fulltime so I'm commiserating with you on studying after work - I'm sure you'll do great!

I'm working on the two-word choice 500 word statement right now 🙂. Submitting to VMCAS at the end of next week! I'm figuring since VMCAS has to verify all my stuff, I'll get that in and then finish the supplemental app while my VMCAS is processing. Good luck to all of us!

I have searched for an answer, but didn't find anything on this: how are you guys listing certifications on your VMCAS? For example, I did a training workshop for bacterial endotoxin testing and got a little certificate thing for it at work, but I don't know if that's an "award?" It's def not a scholarship. Maybe but probably not an honor? The FAQ page didn't address this. I can email tony and ask, but figured I'd see if anyone had some insight.
