George Washington wait listees..post here
Started by naya
My interest is also very high. In fact, I applied to GW exclusively to indicate my interest. I am trying to find reliable info about the waitlist and I will post whatever I find here. I don't recall where I heard this (perhaps a previous thread here), but someone said that about 50-60% of the waitlistees come off the list. Take it for what it is worth.
waitlisted and would love to attend.
When did all of you interview and when were you notified? Tomorrow will be 6 weeks for me, so I'm getting pretty anxious. Do you think they would be sending any more outright acceptances?

Good news. I am wait-listed, but I e-mailed them this Friday that I am no longer waiting for GW since I got in somewhere else. I knew a friend who just withdrew from GW last week. So definitely most of you will get in for sure. Good luck to you all.
I interviewed in September and was placed on the alternate list in early November. I was accepted in late December, but withdrew immediately as I had already been accepted to another school. Before I was accepted from GW, I had written the Dean a letter stating that I was still interested in GW (it wasn't necessarily a letter of intent, more so a letter stating I was still interested despite being accepted to another school). I also had my boss send a reference. Good luck with everything.
P.S. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I interviewed with the Dean of Admissions.

I'm on permanent pre-interview hold at GWU.
I interviewed Feb. 28th, and got my waitlist letter about two and a half weeks later. A girl that interviewed the same day got her waitlist letter a few days ago.
Does anyone know reliable info as to how large the waitlist is?

I have already sent a letter of interest to the admissions committee. I would like to send a letter to the Dean. Can I just send the same letter, or should I write a new one. I spent a lot of time on the original, and it says everything that I would like known. I just don't know if it would appear lazy or otherwise be bad form to send a duplicate of what is probably already in my file.

I just withdrew my acceptance. Sent in the letter last week. Good luck all of you!

For anyone who doesn't read the other GW thread, I just spoke to Darrell. He says the adcom is moving slow. I was supposed to hear back 6 weeks post interview, but he said to wait a few more weeks, and it was not because of me, but b/c the adcom is slooooow. So I don't know if that will affect waitlist movement, but they haven't even finished categorizing their interviewees from early March. 😛
First of all (bump), I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has withdrawn from GW. I hope this is representative of the population!
I was placed on the waitlist last Friday, so I'm here with you guys. Does anyone have any info? Is anyone rejected post-interview? How large is the waitlist? How much movement is there? I'd appreciate ANY info at all.
Muchas Gracias 😀

I saw this posted on medicalgold.com by another student:
•••quote:••• I am on the high end of the alternate list at GW and was wondering what you think are my chances? Do you know how many people are on the alternate list this year or last year, as well as how many get in off the list?" •••• •••quote:••• Originally posted by Gower (a premed advisor)
Greatest movement from GW wait-list: end of June.
After July 1, maybe six spots will be open.
•••• •••quote:•••How did you find out that you were on the high end of the alternate list? I'm also waitlisted at GW but am unaware of where I stand on the list.
•••• •••quote:••• My advisor told me. But, I have no idea how many people are on the list, and how many come off of it.
••••So is the waitlist ranked? And shouldI go bother my advisor to see if he knows anything about my status?

Finding out where you are isn't going to make the wait shorter. There is truth to that. I think we should update each other when the list actually starts moving. 🙂

At least you guys have a larger pool to get picked from. The 5 year pool is only 8-10 acceptances and 4-5 waitlisteds. 😕
Talk about %'s killing your mental capacity to reason!

GW set out to quietly identify applicants they liked but due to some red flag (married with kids or perhaps a language transition) put them into a pool of people, very small I might add, as 5 year people.
I know that I am waitlisted. Now I can only hope a few of them get competing offers and I can get in. I loved it there and my wife can transfer to a DC office with her software company.
You cannot ask to be in this group. They only do it by committee vote.

bump ...
BTW, in an email response to some of my questions, GW responded that they will start making calls late May to early June. I was kinda wishn' they would start today. Shucks! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

I'm on the waitlist, and I've decided to withdraw from it. I'll mail a letter today. Would have liked to get the acceptance letter for my own files, but I've already decided to stay in state, so there is no point holding a spot on the waitlist. Hope this helps somebody move up. Good luck, DC is a great place!
GW booyah!
please post any news 🙂

OK I'm hungry for info. I dug this up using the search function. This is from Feb/2001 posted by Gower:
•••quote:••• Those on the wait list are ranked. To remain on the wait list, a letter of intent must be sent in June. You may add information on new grades or another letter of evaluation, if substantial. Greatest movement ocurs at end of May; approx. 6 students accepted after June 15. ••••

I was told at the interview that the list is not ranked, and the second letter sent to alternates seemed to confirm this, though indirectly. It could have been a typo by Gower, but then why was one alternate informed by his advisor that he was in the top portion of the list? I emailed my advisor asking if he would call GW, but he never replied.
And Joe Joe, the letter you sent to remain on the list was a letter of interest (or of intent, depending on how much you committed yourself to GW). You don't need to send anything else, but if you have something more to say then you can send an additional letter. I sent a second letter of interest/intent, along with my spring semester grades.

BTW, below is a link to last summer's GW waitlist thread. The first sign that any SDNer was pulled off was on May 31st.

Did the waitlist letter ask that we "must" send a letter to remain on the list? I don't think mine said that. I haven't sent a letter yet in any case.
Doctora Foxy, I got two letters, one saying that I have been waitlisted and the other (about two weeks later) saying that I remain waitlisted. The second letter included:
"We request that everyone interested in remaining on the alternate list for the 2002 class send, or fax, us a letter telling us so. Letters must be in our Office of Admissions no later than May 15, 2002. If we haven't heard from you, we will assume that you are no longer interested in attending George Washington and will withdraw your application from consideration."
I know that you were interviewed later than most, so perhaps they haven't sent a second letter yet? Anyway, send or fax a letter right away!
