How can I get in contact with a recruiter for the Airforce HPSP scholarship? I live in Wisconsin. Thanks!

I'm a bit new to the HPSP, so perhaps these are bit of obvious questions.

After graduating from med school, how much control do I have over where I do my residency? Is the residency selection for an HPSP, student the same as every other student? I'd really like to do mine in my home state of California.

As well, would I be able to do a fellowship after the residency which is what I have planned for myself?

Lastly, would the four years I serve take place following my residency and fellowship? Which would potentially be 8 years after I complete medical school? Or how would that work?

Please spend some time reading in the military med forum before you start making decisions, you have a lot to catch up on

I was on the board that happened earlier this month. How long do you think this will take to find out if i'm in? My recruiter made it sound like things would move very fast but reading online it looks like some guys (at least on the dental side) wait months from when they submit their final packet till when they commission.

Also how many 4 years scholarships do u think are left this late in the cycle? I feel fairly competitive at 514 MCAT and 3.6 GPA but hope I wasn't too late

You meet the Automatic acceptance criteria of 507/3.6 GPA. If your recruiter does not get you in that is very sad. The only thing that will hold you back is the physical which takes some time to get done. If the physical takes some time the slots could fill while you are waiting for that.

You would match to a military residency just like you would on the civilian side so you do have a lot of control over your residency. It is all about how competitive you are vs the others applying for the same residency. Navy is the only one that has a teaching hospital in California. I don't know how many residency slots there are though.

Yes, Residency/Fellowship are non-payback years. You still get credit for retirement but you still have to serve the four years after residency/fellowship in whatever specialty you did training in.

Not HPSP, but I spoke to a friend who is in the Army and he said that doctors can do airborne and ranger school. Is this true? I thought he was joking, but I have seen some obscure posts on here saying something similar.

Yes that is true, I had a ER doc that I worked with who was ranger/airborne/air assault/pathfinder. You meet a lot of airborne docs, ranger is pretty rare but if you want to go and your unit/schedule allow it then you can go.
