Hunger Games Redux WW sign ups

The ballots are in and the tributes stand at attention. They are all expecting the loudspeaker to announce their choice. What will this mean for the future of Panem?

"It is with great pleasure I announce that @Promethean is your mayor," Claudius Templesmith's voice reverberates, "Now, to the arena!"

The tributes look at each other uneasily as the crowd roars their approval. Too soon, they are ejected into the arena and the countdown begins.

Happens sometimes. Usually it means that player had the mayorship automatically via their role.
Ohhh. So the mods were just toying with us this day cycle. 🙄

Huh, we'll that was an interesting turn of events.

I would say whoever has assasin abilities, just take out promethean.
Can't be anyone good stealing the mayor role IMO.

I am sure it is not that easy, but hey, worth a shot. plus noob.

You don't know that it was stolen. There have been plenty of games where mayor was predestined. You modded one of them. I remember because whoever got the liss role automatically became mayor which made me giggle.

That seems excessive. It's not necessarily stealing, there have been games where the mayor was pre-determined.

Wasn't Promethean the one who inspired this redux in the Future WW Games thread? Maybe mods threw him a juicy bone, I dunno.

Promethean, did you know you were going to be mayor before the mods revealed it in the thread?

Well, that was certainly unexpected.

I might have been given a hint about it, but I thought it was more of a suggestion than a prediction. I wasn't anticipating that it was going to override the election. Guess it just goes to show the lengths the Capitol's game-makers will go to in order to control us. They play with the lives of tributes as if we are toys for their amusement.

Well, now I am in a bit of a pickle. How to convince other innocent tributes that I'm on their side without immediately being targeted by the career tributes who are determined to take the victory for themselves?

Well, if the position has been thrust upon me, I will do my best to help my fellow tributes to the extent that I can while seeking to survive myself. I'll share any info that I get and participate in discussions as much as possible.

I wonder if there are any gifts from sponsors that might help us along?

Talk about getting into character. Also noticed that you were liking most posts thus far.

The tributes scatter into the arena looking over their backs while snagging what supplies they can. Most are frightened, but a few look determined. After all, this is what they trained for. Swimming comes naturally to some tributes, but others struggle to keep their heads above water. They can tell this will be a difficult challenge.

A scuffle is heard on a the beach as one tribute attacks another. But no one has died, much to the audience's disappointment. A knife in the sand is all the evidence that remains.

However, one cannon was heard that night. The tributes look up and see that @Jilary , Plutarch Heavensbee, is dead.

I'm going to be gone for a bit this morning. If a player wouldn't mind keeping a running tally, it would be very appreciated.

One comrade fallen...

We can break this Game. We don't have to submit to the Capitol's will that we wantonly kill one another for their amusement. There is power in our refusal.

Someone(s?) among us is willing to kill, and has chosen to begin with a Tribute from District 2. We must find out who among us has murder in their heart, and stop them.

I wasn't looking to be a leader, but since I'm here, I will do my best. I think that I can prevail upon the Game Makers for some answers, and that they will respond honestly to my inquiries, within limitations. If I go too far, I doubt they will answer at all. They toy with us.

So... who is suspicious. Wildzoo did try to deflect the mayor role, though I might have done the same if anyone had voted for me. Who else?

I can vouch for the Dubz. She's a villager.

I sort-of did. I wasn't in a mood to campaign but felt forced to respond when my district partner put me forward. I wasn't against being mayor, though.

I like her very much, too... but how can you know? And how do we know you aren't protecting a co-conspirator?

I don't just mean who didn't want to be mayor. There are lots of reasons to want to skirt the responsibility of leadership, not least that many of us have significant impositions from outside the arena. I just wanted to kick off the conversation in general. It is still so early, and very little has been said to inform either trust or distrust.

Dang...Plutarch Heavensbee sounds like he could have been really useful. 🙁

Rogert, were you talking to Jilary at all before she died?

She probably told him something via PM. A public defense this early would be a pretty bold move. Not to say that WZ couldn't be full of it.

I did not.

I was thinking that as well. I wonder if all the roles come with special abilities, or whether some are truly vanilla? And do abilities / alignments necessarily dovetail with the canonical story? I love/hate that the parameters of the game are not actually well defined for us. What we know about the setting is that the arena itself is treacherous, that things aren't necessarily what they seem, and that new elements could be introduced at any time. We were already tricked with a mock election, after all.

It makes for an exquisitely immersive experience, and I will be pondering all the angles as I attend to some desperately overdue laundry. If I am quiet for a bit, that is where I am. I will check back in before I go to work this afternoon.

What I said yesterday was my exact reason for suggesting the mayor vote go elsewhere - I had just been mayor in the last game.

Plus, with my record of lynching villagers recently, I didn't want my vote to have any extra impact. It's just not a good idea.

In my experience on these boards, 'nilla villagers are a rarity. Abilities are at least tangentially related to character. Alignments depend on how much the mods want to screw with us. Usually that is " as much as possible."

People are trying to kill us and you're worried about laundry. Priorities man. And just cus there's a corpse in the water and it might be a deadly trap doesn't mean you can't just do a quick wash up in the starting area.

There are vanilla roles. I have a feeling this is a basics game, so there are probably a lot of vanillas. As to how, her role is both not villainous and is something she wouldn't claim without fear of another player having said rule and wrecking her day, it would just be dumb. As to us being co-conspirators, it would be extremely unlikely for the wolves to have two players start in the same group in a game with such limited communication, it would cripple their information advantage. Lastly, no half decent wolf would vouch loudly for another would this early in the game, they may as well be committing double suicide.

Normally I'd just brush all of this off, but because you're a new player, I'll spell out the logic so you can understand how we think in WW.

I really appreciate that. I'm trying to get up to speed as quickly as possible. I've been spending every spare moment reading old game threads and pouring over the mafiascum wiki. And, scheming about the game that I eventually want to run, and all the devious tricks, traps, and gambits that I could cram into it.

All of this has just made me paranoid like I'd been mainlining tracker jacker venom. I don't trust myself, let alone anyone else.

Holy tl;dr batman

I attest to the fact there are vanilla roles. I hope there are items in this game...

I always wondered why the author of the series decided to use the BSA scout sign for this.

I received an item for tonight so there are items. It was in the first game as well,

And I think Prometheus is wolfy cause of the theme. Politicians are not exactly good guys in hunger games...but hopefully she'll be checked out,

I mean, there aren't very many "good" guys in general. There's Primrose, Finnick, Rue, and then a mess of characters with severe mental trauma (Peeta, Finnick's gf who I can't remember, Mags, etc.) who could possibly be classified as good. The rest are pretty gray.
