I am currently a 2nd semester sophmore bio major with a 3.0 gpa. w doubts on whether if i should go on to Med School . My Last resort would be carribean or a foreign med school or even PA school.

- Freshman Year
took pre calc, macroeconomics, intro to psychology, english,
I have received a C in molecular and cellular biology freshman year.
I received B's for Gen. Chem 1 +2 and labs also.
I have shadowed a pediatrician last summer to gain experience.
- Sophmore Year 1st semester
took stats and sociology
failed orgo ( got a D+ in orgo 1 ), passed lab w B+
i got a B in genetics and the lab
- Planning to take an EMT course to hopefully work as one next summer to gain experience. ( i dont know if this is recommended or maybe i should work as a medical scribe ????)

This semester i plan to retake Orgo 1 and get an A.
Take cell biology, Calc 1, and physics 1.

I am asking you guys to give me advice on what i should do from now. I am really lost and any sort of help would be greatly appreciated. What would you guys do or take in my situation.

PS: Also would not bringing a TV to school be a good idea ???
Thanks guys. God bless.

Here's what I would do if I was you
1. Do better in your classes, sacrifice some fun things for studying if that's what it takes, organize your time better and start getting higher grades. You might also need to change your study habits, this isn't high school where you can just float along and put in little to no effort or cram everything last minute.
2. Take the EMT course and volunteer as an EMT. At my school it was 9 credits and an easy A and gave me invaluable patient exposure.
3. Keep the TV but control how much you watch it.

I think you need to figure out why you're doing poorly in so many of your prereqs. Are you studying enough and effectively? Go to prof's office hours, meet with your TA's, find a tutor or someone who's doing well in these classes to study with! In short, ask for help and take the time to figure out where you're going wrong. You don't want to start retaking classes until you have a clear plan for how to improve.

I would also avoid cramming too many prereqs into one semester. At least until you start getting A's.

EMT or scribe is fine, whichever you're more interested in. The key is to get some patient contact somehow (through working or volunteering) and to continue shadowing so you understand what being doctor entails.

I don't think it matters much if you have a TV or not. You gotta learn to buckle down and get your work done despite the ever-present temptation to slack off!

That's all fine and dandy, but what are you going to do differently to make that happen? So many times I see premeds on here say "well I have a 2.5 GPA but planning on getting a 4.0 the rest of college" without actually having a plan of action. I don't recommend you retake any classes until you figure out how to stop yourself from getting those grades. Change your study habits, find a tutor, go to office hours, etc.
