Iowa c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
According to the Selection Criteria section it looks like it is just the science and last 45 credit hours:
Just an FYI for others who were waiting as well, today my GPA calculations were posted.

My science GPA was calculated two days ago (significantly higher than expected!) but my last 45 still is not. I keep checking, even though my rational self knows they are probably not there at 9:30PM!😳

I know we were discussing this in some other thread, but can anyone confirm that the first interview weekend is just for IS/contract students? Makes the most sense to me since their stuff was due earlier and also that way I can stop freaking out about it for now.

 I do the same thing on some portals and then go wait.. nothing is going to change at this time 🙄

Haha I do the same thing! My GPAs aren't up yet so checking is part of my routine now 0🙂

Did everyone's Last 45 GPA and Science GPA get done at the same time? My science GPA was posted a week ago but the other is still not up.

Mine still isn't calculated.

Mine were done at the same, but I submitted my transcripts in August. I am sure they are swamped right now. But I know they sent out IS and Contract interview invites today, so good luck to you IS and Contracts! As a Florida girl, I am expecting to wait a longggg time to hear from ISU! :/

Mine isn't calculated, yet, either. In fact, they still don't even show receipt of a couple transcripts. It kind of worries me but the schools say they were sent. Anyone else still missing transcripts? I am sure they are swamped and I don't want to be "that person" but I also don't want to lose my chance because I was trying not to be a nut case. I am guessing OOS students end up in the last interview pool, so I probably have lots of time before it matters, right?

Wow I am a total nut, maybe I cant hide it. Anyone else feel like they are losing their mind?

I'd message admissions if you're still waiting for things to appear on the status page (especially with what it says here). They won't bite 😉

Are interview invites only via the status page or is there also some kind of email sent alerting you to the change?

When a message is put on your message board it prompts the system to send you an email telling you to check your status page/message board. When you are offered an interview, your status will change to "interview offered" and a message will go on your message board to tell you you have been offered an interview along with giving you some instructions. If you don't check your email OR if your email goes to junk mail, you will not see that email that tells you to check your status page. Last year an applicant never checked their email, was offered an interview but didn't reply til almost a month later. Once the applicant failed to reply to the initial message their name was removed and the interview was offered to the next person on the list. The applicant notified the Admissions Office a month later to say they had missed the message but it was too late. This is why applicants sign to agree to the terms of use which states they will check their status page regularly (best practice is to check every few days). Total reliance on email is not wise and that is why the status page should be checked by the applicant to ensure that they know what is going on. Applicants invest too much money in this process not to be more proactive.

Mine are still not calculated via the status page, but I was offered an interview already -- so don't worry!!! I am considered in-state (SD resident) so I have my interview a week from today (yikes!) :/ Does anyone know when acceptance letters are sent for IA State? Do they do IS acceptances first?

Iowa State sends out notification of acceptance/rejection on Febraury 15.

Check your applications, today mine showed a change from academic review to now committee review. So the process is moving along.

A GPA has been calculated. That freaks me out because it means they are looking at it.

Does that mean we passed academic review and are closer to an interview? Or does everyone get looked at by both committees? Im sorry if this is a dumb question!!

I took it to mean that they had just calculated GPA's, but that is definitely a good question.

My GPAs have been calculated since Aug and it just changed to committee review for me, so maybe thats a good sign for us!

Maybe it does mean that we've met the cut-off. Doesn't say a whole lot, but yay anyways!

My understanding at least is that it means yeah, we have passed academic qualifications and now it is being reviewed by the committee for possible interviews. Applicants who do not pass the academic review wont be seen by the committee for further consideration. At least that is how it was explained as of last year

Had to provide syllabi (is that the right plural?) for two of my courses today. My status id currently "deficient." YIKES!!! I hope that they all get cleared up :/

I've been listed as committee review since about mid-October. Hoping for some positive change soon. :xf:

I had an interview there on Saturday, and Dr. Howard made it sound like academic review was the first hurdle and if you made the cut you then moved on to committee review, and then again if you make the cut you're offered an interview. But she was talking fast, so I may have interpreted that incorrectly. 😕

hope this helps👍

Just got an interview invite for Dec 1st or 2nd. Haven't decided yet, but will post in the interview invite when I do! Keep an eye out. I got an email that I had a message on the status page.

Yay Wildcatj!

Here is my question and it is just for my level of stress. How long were you listed as committee review? I know this is a stupid question because every applicant is different.

Congrats Wildcatj!!!

I never thought I would cross my fingers not to hear anything but I think I will have a meltdown if I would be invited to interview on those dates with finals just around the corner! Best of luck to you!

YAYAYAY!!!

When I chose a time slot this afternoon, there were like none on Saturday, but lots on Sunday. I want to say you're from IA though, so maybe they have different slots for you guys?

Let me know what you choose--maybe we'll run into each other?

I'm signed up for the 2nd at 11am. When is yours?
And wld, I think I've been in committee review since the end of October I think?

ISU won't accept my school's biology course because its too cellular based. Its the same course all the pre-meds take and a pre-req for our actual cell bio course. 🙁
Super bummed. I won't be able to retake gen bio before next fall so I guess I'm out of the running. Good luck guys!

Aww bummer 🙁 How disappointing, I am so sorry to hear that.

So my application is still listed as "committee review" and status not yet determined. Does anyone know if there are more interview invites to even be sent out? I have no clue if they are sent in batches or all at once. I know some went out last week.

I think they send out invites like 3ish weeks before the next interview dates so I don't think they are done yet. 🙂

Sweet, well then I will keep being hopeful!

Texguyincali, I am with you. My status switched a week ago, so I think we have a while to wait.

Looked up last year's dates for when OOS interview invites went out. Here they are: 11/10, 12/19, 12/20, 12/27, 1/16

There are definitely more to go out. I was scheduled to interview as an in-stater on Nov 11, but they switched me to Jan 19th because I'm out of the country until Christmas. I signed up for a time not long ago and ALLLL the slots were open except the one I took, so don't worry! Like someone said, they'll send them out about 3 weeks before the interview dates listed on the website.

:luck:

Going to make a couple of people panic.

Next interview dates are towards the end of January, so people should be hearing before and after New Year's when following the 3 weeks.

for what it is worth, i am not sure they are super exact on the "3week". i was informed more like 2.5 weeks this year and the first time i applied (2008) it was a soild 3.5 weeks. i guess the reason i am sharing is because i know I watched my email/status page like a hawk and was defeated at the 4 week mark, the 3 week mark and then i was surprised at the 2.5 week mark. GOOD LUCK! Use SDN interview prep page, it made the interview process so easy for me!!

For anyone interviewing this weekend (or whenever)... On their website they mention on the info page that they have locker rooms so you can change for your interview. Is anyone planning on doing that? My interview is at 11am so I have my tour at 8 so obviously I'd prefer not to be in my interview attire all morning. Just curious if anyone is planning on taking advantage of that.

I had my interview there a few weeks ago, and everyone was dressed up the whole morning. I think you would probably feel out of place if you werent since they give you a special name tag. While I was waiting for my 11am interview one of the teachers came and started a conversation with me..I did take advantage of the locker room to change after my interview though! The school is so awesome and clean, so don't worry about getting dirty, you won't! Hope this helps 🙂

Super helpful thank you! I might just have to wear sneakers with my suit for the tour. Lame looking, but I don't want my feet to fall off and I just hemmed my pants last night for heels so I'm not doing it again!

haha good idea! I just wore toms with a skirt suit...looked a little dorky, but the tour is an hour long and you literally walk an hour straight!! Have a great time, and good luck!

Starting to get nervous. But I figure this is going to be the worst one, so at least I can get it over with.

:O no no no!!! The interveiwers are so nice and laid back!! You will be totally fine!! Just be yourself and you'll be great!

I just got an interview invite!! I am SOOO excited!! Does anyone know the stats for how many OOS students are usually accepted from interviews?? Congrats to everyone else as well!!

I got a rejection, today, through the website. I am guessing they were unhappy with my undergrad GPA. Its OK, I still have an acceptance in CO and an interview in Kansas, but Iowa was high on my list.🙁 Congrats to all that have gotten interviews!
