Primarily behavioral as the interviewers do not know anything about your background and draw questions from what you present to them
Honestly, it's not worth taking the time to walk around main campus.Does anyone have any suggestions on places to make sure to see? I'm going to come in early afternoon on the 19th to walk around the general ISU campus and get a feel for Ames. Any dinner recommedations?
Congrats on the interviews! So uh, if we haven't heard anything from Iowa at this point, should we be concerned? My online status still says it's in committee review and I have not been contacted. I realize there are a few different interview dates as listed, but I feel like we should be hearing from them already for the later interviews. Any re-applicants have any ideas?
I can't stop freaking out about this interview next week.... So nervous I will draw a blank of a behavioral question 🙁 🙁
This is from the interview information page. I'm pretty sure that the Days Inn and Gateway Hotel are the closest (5-6 minutes, depending on traffic) and that the AmericInn, Country Inn & Suites, and the Econo Lodge are the next closest (closer to 10 minutes, depending on traffic).Hey guys, so I posted this question on the applicants thread, but no one answered me. So I figured I would give it a go on here 🙂. I have an interview on the 27, and I am flying into Des Moines on Sat, getting a rental car and driving to Ames. Does anyone know of hotels that are nearby the school? Im so excited!
Thanks for the information and encouragement, Virginger!
I have my interview tomorrow, and I am staying in the Memorial Union Hotel. The hotel is located in a student center type of building on the regular ISU campus, about a mile away from the vet admissions office. I am about to walk there, it looks pretty easy. I'd recommend staying here, the rates were decent and you get to see campus. Welch Ave is a 3 minute walk away (apparently where a lot of student-populated restaurants/bars are), and you can literally take an elevator downstairs to Panda Express, Subway, and some sort of cafeteria. So I was wrong, its a pretty long walk from Memorial Union to the vet school. I will be taking a taxi tomorrow (although on weekdays there is a bus that runs from main ISU campus to the vet school). I have a morning interview next weekend and I was wondering if the interview program ends at 12:00 for the morning interviewers or does it go longer? I know it says we have to stay the full time & I just want to be able to tell my ride an approximate time to pick me up. 🙂
So I'm going to do the biggest internet no-no ever... I ended up coming up to Iowa by myself. I was thinking of doing dinner in the main street area but feel odd dining alone. If anyone else is looking for a dining companion, PM me (however, if you have not posted on SDN prior, I will not respond).
Also, for those of you who have gone already... was there any kind of breakfast/coffee in the morning involved in the registration period? My hotel doesn't start breakfast in time. 🙁
Hehe... I was trying to be an adult about that one...
I am so rediculously nervous. I keep looking at the questions and worrying my answers stink. Or that my mind will go totally blank when they ask me. Wishing I did some mock interviews before coming!
I can see the vet school from my hotel's elevator though. Wake up call is scheduled for way too early tomorrow.

At least you have answers. I worked Sunday through Friday, my cat was hospitalized with pancreatitis thurs through this morning, and I haven't slept more than 2 or 3 hours per night in 3 days.
Did anyone else have trouble coming up with an answer for some of the behavioral questions? Also, many of my back to back questions were repetitive, asking the same thing in a different way. Enough so that I got the comment "I know you just answered this, but..." several times.
I was accepted for class of 2017 and I'm pumped!! Who are my future classmates? 🙂
