Iowa State University c/o 2019 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Alternate OOS here, but I'm most likely going to decline staying on the alternate list-- Hope that bumps someone else up! 🙂

I was rejected. Oh well, got in elsewhere, so I'm not quite so bummed. Congrats to those accepted and good luck to those on the wait list!

The waitlist tends to move quite a bit guys so don't count it out yet.

Yeah I know but it's disappointing that it means waiting for 2+ more months. I'd feel better if I knew what number I am on the waiting list.

It has been a while since I applied, but when I was waitlisted 3(?) years ago... they sent out where you were at on the waitlist. But they didn't send that number out until around April 15th... not sure if they still do that or not.

When I was waitlisted last year they did the same thing.... the day after "commitment day" they gave us our numbers on the portal.

Does anyone know why schools do that? Don't they know beforehand what number you are? Even an estimate is better than nothing 😕

Because people will decline offers between now and then, no point giving out the rank now when by April 15th it could be completely different. Also possible that they are still ranking the waitlist... just some guesses.

We find out our spot on the list by April 6.

^April 6 is better than decision day, at least

I guess the reason is that the list moves between now and then. But for people with multiple offers it would be nice knowing if you even had a chance at another school... If I'm last on the list I probably won't wait around 😛

I am OOS and got placed on the alternate list... Same thing as last year, but hopefully I'll get pulled off this year!

Alternate list here. :/ This is my first round of apps and the first school I've heard back from, but I was really hoping for acceptance (of course!).

I congratulate all of you who made it in!! Nice job 🙂

Alternate list. OOS. Interviewed 1/24. Congrats to all of those accepted!

OOS, accepted, interviewed on January 17th! I loved the school but need to make a pros and cons list between ISU and Western -- and hear back from my IS school.

Congrats to everyone who got in!!! Hopefully me and some others will be able to say the same thing in a few months!

I was wait-listed also, disappointing because my interview went great.

Same here. It was as good as an interview could have gone in my opinion. However, it's all a numbers game. They rank your interview and add that score to your already-existing academic and nonacademic scores. They then invite the X top scores. So your interview could have gone great and it's still all based on numbers. At least that's what they told me while I was there. Very disappointing since I liked the school. I hope the waiting list moves a lot. :/

Although it fluctuates each cycle, one of the students on the Q & A panel during my interview weekend was in the 40's on the wait list and got call shortly after the April 15 deadline. We have hope!!

I think last year they went to 65 on the waitlist and some years have gone well into the 90s

Sooo as for taking applicants off of the waitlist, am I understanding correctly that they will notify as soon as a spot becomes available or are they waiting until after April 15th to notify all at once?

From what I was told, the waitlist will not start moving until after April 15th. We will, however, be notified of our position on the list by April 6th.

Oh okay.. because from the message board message that they sent out it almost looks to be the other way. haha

I will be withdrawing my OOS wait list seat. I hope it opens up a spot for someone on here! 🙂

Hey all! I have a pre vet friend who is wait listed here and sound alike high on the list. Will you all do me a favor and post if you get off the waitlist plus what number you were ranked? I will do the same for him if he gets off the list. Thanks!

They haven't given us our rank yet? I asked admissions and they said that they won't be pulling from the alternate list until after April 15th.

Yup, waitlisted people won't be notified of their rank until April 6th I believe and the school wont pull from the list until after the April 15th decision deadline. Until then nobody can begin to accurately guess where they stand.

Well he has been told some info (not exact spot but a "top X% alternate") so idk.

No clue. He was just updating me on where he got accepted and wait listed. He used the phrasing "they told me I was a top X alternate".

I have decided to decline my acceptance in favor of my in-state school. Best of luck to everyone going forward!

Has anyone who has accepted / is planning to accept their offer looking into housing yet? The trailer parks seem to be the obvious way to go, but it's freakin' impossible to get one right now...

I'm currently looking for a female roommate. I'm about 10 minutes away from ISU campus and perhaps an additional 5 or so minutes from Vet Med. Depends on how you drive ;-) Rent is $350 a month (utilities included). Cable is a separate charge. There is laundry on site (takes change). We share the kitchen and the appliances. You get your own private room and bathroom. If you own a vehicle, you get your own parking spot in a lot. It's not a gated community but you need a code to get into the complex. The 1A Red bus stop is walking distance from the complex (about 10 minute walk).

**Update** Including myself, there are three females total in the apartment.
**2nd Update** So sorry, no pets.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me!
