While I sit here and watch the interview list grow in size and continue to wait to hear from my schools, I can't help but wonder where Iowa State is. So far only one person on SDN has received an interview notification, that seems so weird. Where are you?!

Well, the first set of interviews is this weekend so the admissions people are rabidly preparing for them... but remember that there are 3 more sets of interviews this cycle so don't worry too much if you didn't get one this round.

Good luck!

I know there are multiple interview dates, but I also thought it was strange that only one lucky person on SDN had an invite! Talk about torturing the rest of us!

Isn't that person in a contract state though? I don't think that any OOS'ers have been notified yet...or at least I hope not.🙄

Yep, contract state --- I don't know of any OOS non-contract that have been notified

racccjlm is the winner for receiving interview invites first. i'm never the first, i'm so jealous! 😀

maybe i should edit this -- this in no way means I want to be the first to receive rejections.

I also will be interviewing at Iowa State this weekend. If it makes you OOS'ers feel better, I'm an in-state candidate. Good luck to everyone...I'm nervous and also very excited about this weekend.

Good luck! I was down there with a friend for interviews last year and everyone was very nice. My friend said her interviewers were very relaxed and helpful.

Mmm...my guess for Kansas is that they divided apps into various states and notified states at certain times...and Iowa is a contract state. So I'm probably just lucky in terms of notification because of the state I'm in 😉

ISU had a campus-wide snow day for all students and offices due to 14 inches of snow!!

So we probably won't hear anything about interviews today!!

Good to know! One less school to stress about today. I find it crazy that they got 14 inches of snow and I just went outside with my cat and walked around in a t-shirt and pj shorts and was very comfortable.

It's a new day! Hey ISU, want to send out some notifications today? That would be great, thanks!

It's -9 degrees here right now...regular temp, not wind chill. I suppose it takes a while to get going when your butt's frozen in your chair. Good luck - I'm sure it won't be too much longer hopefully.

If I didn't own an awesome LL Bean jacket that is amazingly warm, pretty green snow boots, and a multitude of hats and scarves I would be scared by that.

I like the attitude! However, I want a report on how those things are serving you when you're digging your vehicle out of 12 inches of snow in the dark with a 25 mph wind bringing tears to your eyes which then immediately freeze your eyelashes together!

I'm not trying to scare you - it's really not like that around here that often, but it does happen. I couldn't live without the extreme season changes though - I love it.

I'm familiar with the wind making you cry after two years in western mass. I didn't have a car while I was up there but my friend let me use her Jeep whenever I needed. Fortunately, we didn't have any big snow storms while I was there so digging my car out would be something new and exciting. I hate not having seasons. It goes from being really f-ing hot to still pretty d@mn hot to warm.

They seem to be coming ino the home strech.....they emailed me today asking for my AP scores from high school(kinda random)....but yea that means they are definitly reviewing apps and I was told I HAD to get back to them next week. So be on the look out for emails after next week!

Well it's good that they're at least making progress through the applications. It's difinitely stressing me out waiting to hear (even though my chances are low) but I like that it seems like they are actually spending time on each application. Good luck to everyone. Hope there are some more interview nitifications soon.

yeah they had told me that i needed to send them my biology ones too.. but i got that email on 11/6 so over a month ago.. no word since then though 😳

on the bright side, at least its no denial 🙂

Hmm, I haven't heard anything. Do all applicants need to send AP scores? From what I remember of their website, it said if the test was listed for credit on your transcript, you didn't have to send an official score report or something like that. So I didn't bother, since the ones I did well on are listed on my official university transcript. Hopefully I'll hear something soon. Patience is apparently not my strong point.

Yes I saw that too on their website so I didn't send them either.. but then they contacted me and said they needed the official AP Board results for my AP biology that i took junior year of high school. Of course that being about 6 years ago now, it was a whole ordeal to get the AP board to send them since they had been filed blah blah blah. Iowa got them like last week.. 3 weeks after the deadline they had told me 😱 hopefully that didn't screw me over. I was confused when they asked me for them because i attend a big ten school which took the scores as credit so i figured they would just transfer them over.. no such luck for me.

Me too. I sent my AP Bio scores to Cornell because Cornell specifically requested official copies, but I didn't send them anywhere else because it is something like $25/copy.

that's so strange that they seem to be asking for some peoples AP biology scores but not others..

I assume it's if you're claiming them as fulfilling a requirement, no?

They didn't send me anything about my AP scores, which is good as I took them in 1998 and it would be a giant headache to scrounge those up.

I suppose that's possible-- I took a full year of gen bio, so I didn't need to use the AP test as a requirement.

As for Cornell, this is the second time I'm applying there. I sent my scores last year and made them use the same ones over again. No way was I sending those again!

ahh well that would be why then.. i haven't taken general biology in college at all 🙂 (just microbiology and biochemistry ew)

Hmm. I took one semester of gen bio in college because my university has a 3-semester introductory course sequence now (last semester is more about biodiversity, phylogeny, and some miscellaneous organismal topics), plus genetics, micro, evolution, cell bio, etc.

Im not sure if it was about filling requirements. Only two of my AP classes were listed on my transcripts as actual classes. The others were just basic elective credits(I took 8 APs in high school haha so my college was like uhhh pick two.) but none of my APs were science related except for Environmental science and Iowa had no way of knowing which AP classes I took, because they specific class names were not on my transcript. So i feel like they are actually judging my scores maybe? I dunno i feel like that would be weird.😕

also all of my requirements were met without my APs.........so im really confused.

well that is odd then, yes mine must have been because i didn't meet their biology requirements without my AP scores.. strange for you though

ahh my microbiology final tomorrow is going to be rough :scared:

GAH! im taking that next semester! how is it? is it horrible? im really scared.

haha nice, glad that im not the only one totally distracted with SDN.. ahh

i actually love microbiology, totally fascinated with diseases, especially zoonotic 🙂 as to whether the class is hard it obviously depends on your professor, mine is just straight memorization, but there is a LOT of diseases/bacteria names to know.

microbiology has been my favorite class...too bad that's not a prereq that is 2 semesters long!!!

I'm taking micro next semester too. Microbes make my skin crawl. 😱

I just finished micro this morning. Good class, but my TA for lab was not a pleasant person and managed to suck a lot of the fun out of lab. 🙁

Whoohoo, done! I loved micro too --- the prof that teaches it at my school is actually a vet --- he went back and got an immuno degree after vet school. We were kind of all over the place this semester because we had Gallo come to talk to us about HIV --- so we focused quite a bit on viruses. He also had bacteria/immunology/micro techniques/etc. etc. mixed in too.

As far as hardness --- it's as hard as your prof wants to make it. Ours was difficult but not impossible.

Ah ok I just realized I helped hijack this thread...back to Iowa!!

ISU requires the AP score if the course is needed to fulfill a pre-requisite. If a student is not asked to submit the score it means that there was coursework present to fulfill the pre-requisite. On most, if not all transcripts, the school just show that it accepted the course but no score is present on the transcript. The admissions committee needs to have a score so that it can make sure that it is accepted by the registrar's office at ISU. The reason the AP credit cannot be accepted from another school's transcript is because the required score may be different for different schools. So for instance if SCHOOL XYZ requires a minimum score of 3 (and that is what the applicant scores on the AP exam) but ISU requires a minimum of a score of 4 for biology (this is just an example), then ISU would not accept that AP score as fulfillment of the course pre-requisite.

This school is seriously driving me crazy. It's 3.5 weeks until the next round of interviews. I'm ready for the corresponding batch of interview invites to be sent out. To be totally honest, I don't care whether I get one or not this year, but I can't stand the waiting, it's absolute torture. If I get in, great! I'm going!. If I don't, that's ok, too! I would love to get some more large animal experience. This is a trial run for me mostly but they're going to have to put me in a straight jacket soon. I feel like all schools should send out interview notifications at the same time, all on one day, and if you didn't make the cut, you should get your rejection letter then. A horribly magical day. At least then you aren't spending every waking moment checking your email and SDN.

We probably won't be hearing from Iowa until Friday at the earliest. Not sure if that makes the waiting any easier since I'm also a compulsive email/sdn checker as well! I just wanna know already! But trust me bearby, you're not alone!

SDN is like crack this time of year. Just need one more hit of that good ol' F5.

Me, too. I convinced myself invites were going to go out this week (since they said something somewhere about notification 3-4 weeks before interviews) and have been checking obsessively all week, too. Which isn't great since I really should be studying for finals...

LegallyPink, why do you think it won't be until Friday at least?

LegallyPink, why do you think it won't be until Friday at least?

They're meeting tomorrow to make final decisions on who to interview so the earliest we'd hear would be Friday (I assume...). And that would be for the first interview weekend in January so if you don't hear really soon, it doesn't mean you're not getting an interview. February interviews will still hear 3-4 weeks before their date. Not sure why, but I don't think we'll ever really understand the system. Hope that helps! 🙂

It does, thanks! Cool to know they'll be considering tomorrow.

Thanks for the inside info! 😀

Good to know...I love Fridays, I can't obsess about vet school because I'm too busy working and my phone doesn't work inside the clinic. It's like my only escape from this application cycle.

Check your email today, OOS-ers! I just got an email about interviews on 1/8 or 1/9.

Just got an email today from ISU for an interview so there's still hope!
