SnoopynCharlie: Mine is the 29th too! 10am. I'm kinda scared of the closed file thing...it's like selling yourself all over again, aside from all the work in the application...but they give the same set of questions to everyone, right? So we have the chance to practice, I hope.

Seriously! I was taken completely off guard when I saw what the email said. I was completely expecting last 45 and experience to factor into this somehow and banking on that to save me. Blah. I think I'll shoot them an email after the holidays anyway just to see if they say the obvious and then beat my head against the desk again.

Ahh! Good luck!! You will do great, I know it. And then you can go have a victory Starbucks. I stopped in and a cute guy with a british accent told me to have an excellent day. That plus my caramel macchiato took away all my interview worries. (well, for an hour or two at least 😉 )

As for restaurants, if you want something nice but not super expensive ($20-25 for dinner for two), I would suggest Old Chicago. It's right by the mall. They have yummy pizza and lots of other good food. Coco Bolos is also good. For a good burger, So Long Saloon is great and it's over in Aggieville (bit of a wait since it's small.) If ya want a really good steak, Little Apple Brewing Company (little pricey, but it's worth it if you want a great steak) If you wanna spend a whole bunch, Harry's is the best (but expensive!)

Another great place is HuHot Mongolian Grill, also pricey but super yummy and all you can eat....You get to pick all your ingredients and then they cook it on a grill in front of you! Want a great burger.... Smashburger is really good I recoment the Baja burger..if you like spicey!! And the smashfries....its pretty reasonable.

Man, I interviewed on the wrong day! I would totally go out for a drink!

As far as restaurants, my favorite is the Berlin Cafe- really good (and good for you) food and not too expensive. Try the "starving artist" if you go there (best thing I've ever eaten... anywhere)

The pizza party is not really a party...it's just an informational and Q&A session. You sit in a lecture hall and there are current vet students that sit at the bottom with the dean and answer questions. There's a line to get pizza and then everyone just sits down. There isn't any time or room for mingling other than maybe the person you happened to sit next to. So for the SDNers that want to meet up, make sure to do so before the pizza party or else you'll never find each other! I had tried to find a girl I had met before my interview and couldn't because everyone is just sitting in the big lecture hall.

Is the pizza in Frick Auditorium? If so, that certainly wouldn't be a very good place to mingle.

On another subject....the snow is coming down like crazy...supposed to get 6-10 inches by tomorrow morning. So those of you driving....careful sometimes it takes forever for them to get the roads all clear.

The pizza was in Frick. Really kinda deathly quiet except for the Q&A. I did most of my mingling in the Mara conference room post interview. If you want to sit together for pizza be early and have a meeting place set up.

I interviewed at four schools last year (Ohio State, Kansas State, Mississippi State, and Iowa State). Of the four, K-State was by far my favorite and the best interview experience. The interviews are basically done to make sure you are who you claim to be and to make sure you are a real person. Nearly all my interview questions came directly off my personal statement. Everyone that I interacted with while I was out for my interview was extremely friendly and tried to make the interview experience as nice as they could.

Also, I interviewed the last weekend (Jan 31) they preformed OOS interviews. I was notified that I was accepted to the c/o 2014 less than 2 weeks later.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me. (I'm originally from Ohio and I'm living here in Manhattan with my boyfriend)

My DVM friend at work went to Virginia-Maryland Regional College and had an actual current events interview...so kinda nervous knowing that!

Check out the interview feedback section of the site. It's in the top navigation bar. Select vet school then K-state, there are about 50 responses from over the years about what they asked. I got the "name a recent event in vet med" question and it led to a question about prop 2. Almost everything else flowed from my application and experience.

Just FYI, roads in and around Manhattan now are fine, they got the most recent snow cleared pretty well. It's been getting just a little above freezing in the afternoon, so there's been some melting going on. Beautiful sunny and blue sky now, actually looks really pretty with the fresh snow. Definitely cold though, be prepared for 20-30's.

Hey guys. Had my interview this afternoon. I think I did alright. It wasn't as conversational as others have said, though. The questions weren't difficult, and I didn't get any specific disease questions, mostly ethical questions.
It went over a few minutes, I think.

It was a bit annoying that my interviewers were looking at my application on their laptops while I was talking, so while I was answering my questions I would look at each one of them to try to make eye contact but one or two of them would be messing around on their laptop.

The student ambassadors were great, I got a really good vibe from the school, and I think I really like the town.

I met DVMDream and Knockout4, both super nice. 🙂 Hunterjumper I think I saw you in the middle toward the front, but didn't get a chance to say 'hi'.

How did the rest of you do?

Everyone wish DVMDream good luck for her early morning interview!!
