What are the general sizes for regular vs long white coat? I'm about 6' 0" male

I just went with my suit size. I tried to look up some sizing info online and the consensus generally seemed to be that the white coats run a little big. I figure if mine is too small it will just give me motivation to drop a few pounds and if it is too big I will just continue to get fatter.
 
Any current students give any insight on how the schedule for classes is during the week? I believe all classes are still mandatory but the dress code is done with?

Last I heard this is how it currently stands, I'm hoping with all of my little heart that the attendance policy changes.

KCUMB will have a lot of extra white coats that you will be able to trade out before the white coat ceremony if it doesn't fit. You will probably get your coat on wednesday or thursday and you will have time to get the right size. Also, don't forget that unless you want to buy a new one, your white coat should last all 4 years of school. Just something to think about

The dress code is already done and I have a pretty good feeling that classes will not be mandatory. As far as the weekly schedule goes, I don't think anyone knows. Even the professors. Word is path lab is getting abolished/ changed into something else (potentially pbl style group discussions). The weekly schedule is going to change but count on lecture from 8-12 every day, lunch from 12-1, and then labs in the afternoon for the first couple of blocks. The schedule is up in the air though but that should be rough guide.

This is a somewhat stupid question, but I am going to ask anyway...
for the dual degree, was I supposed to apply for it when I applied to the school or is it something that I could do?

You have the opportunity to apply for the MBA program toward the end of first semester.

I just got approved for a 1 bedroom in quality hills apartments, which is in downtown KC. Great location from what I have researched. Walking distance to river market, power and light district, four minute drive to midtown, plaza, westport etc... 4 minute drive from campus. They are currently undergoing renovations to most of their units, but you can opt to not have them renovate it and save you $$$ on your rent. They lowered my rent for a 1 bed (698 sq. feet) from 915/month to 820/month.

River market lofts were a bit more expensive than quality hills apartments.

Holy crap, another Quality Hill person!!! I'll be moving in there in June for a week then permanently in mid-July. What part/unit are you going to be in? I'm going to be in the Franscelle building on Pennsylvania Ave. with my girlfriend and it would be awesome to meet up before school starts.

Of all the places I looked at (about 12 complexes) Quality Hill and City View apartments in North KC were by far the nicest and most reasonably priced. The complex has also won a bunch of awards for apartments in KC over the past few years, and the units themselves looked very nice. City View was also nice and apparently students get a 5% discount on rent and free internet for the first 6 months. Everywhere else I looked had issues like being too small, being overpriced (which says a lot seeing as I'm coming from Chicago), or a lack of security to name a few. There are a couple of section 42 places that were actually pretty nice, but you can't qualify to live there as a student unless you have a roommate that will have a job that pays less than a certain amount.

I know there is a realtor/agent that works with KCUMB students. She has been on the KCUMB facebook group and I know she was very helpful when we asked her about what neighborhoods to avoid living in. I think her name was Catherine Dobson.
 
Quality hill is a really fun area. I highly recommend going to the Peanut when you guys are in town, it's one of my favorite bars and it's literally a 30 second walk from you guys. Theres also a really fun bar one block away on broadway called the Quaff. Definitely check it out when you are in town.

Quality hill is a really safe and upper class area, so if anyone on here is looking for a place to live I highly recommend it. I was debating a long time whether or not I was going to take over my friend's place on washington. He's moving to florida for rotations but I ended up signing a lease in a house with 3 friends about 10 minutes south of you guys on Pennsylvania in west port : )

I am also moving in with my girlfriend! We will both be attending KCUMB together. We got a unit in the Estill building, on Broadway right by the Quaff. There was actually an opening in the Franscelle building but it was a bit more expensive and smaller. I was afraid there wouldn't be many KCUMB students living at quality hill!

Thanks for the tip 🙂. I am so glad there are many bars in walking distance from my future home. My building is actually right next to the Quaff 😀.

I think Catherine Dobson is the Assistant Director of Student Activities. She just posts rental listings from time to time.

You're probably thinking of Michelle Sparks. She's the rental specialist/realtor that helps KCUMB students.

During acceptance day she scheduled all my appointments to see apartments. I ended up choosing Marketstation with a roommate. 2bd/ba for around $1,400.

Quality hill was nice but they were unable to show us ANYTHING on acceptance day. Since we are OOS it was too much of a gamble to wait for availability and hope we got to choose something we really wanted.
 
Just to clarify are you talking about quality hill towers or quality hill apartments?
 
I'm going to be in a loft in the Fountains building at Quality Hill.

That is exactly who I was thinking of. I didn't utilize her much since we did a lot of research before the visit day. However, she did answer the few questions we had and from what I've heard is an excellent resource for people not familiar with KC.

I made appointments to look at 10 or 12 different complexes a few weeks before the visit day. We wanted to make sure that we got to look at the places we might potentially live at (we are also OOS). They were actually completely booked with tours a week before the visit day. We got lucky that someone cancelled their tour 2 days before we got there, so we took their place. While we were at QH, for around 2 hours, I counted 7 KCUMB students/families that came in asking to see a unit without an appointment, so I'm not surprised they were turning people away. The unit we are moving into actually had someone look at it earlier and 2 other families scheduled to look at it later that day, but we paid to have them put a hold on it since we knew it was where we wanted to be.

Quality Hill Apartments. QH Towers looked and sounded kind of meh. Then again that could just be because it's kitty corner (catty corner?) from QH apartments which look really nice...

"Quality Hill" is a small neighborhood/ area. There's a quality hill real estate agency that owns a majority of the buildings and apartments in the area, and there is a central website for apartment/town home rental http://www.liveatqualityhill.com/

For people that aren't KC natives, it can be kind of confusing the way we refer to certain places. I can try my best to clarify some things so that hopefully you guys won't be so darn confused when you move here. I thought this might be fun to teach you guys some lingo/ directions.

Kansas City land wise is absolutely HUGE and is spread over two states. The majority of Kansas City is in Missouri, and when most people talk about KC, they are most likely referring to KCMO. If they are talking about Kansas, they will say KCK. The Kc Royals and Chiefs play in Missouri, Sporting Kansas City plays in Kansas.

We have names for districts and neighborhoods, but they are all mostly a part of KC Missouri.
The Plaza area is a part of KC that has a lot of upscale dining, shopping, bars, and apartments. (missouri)
Westport is bar district/neighborhood (missouri)
Quality hill and Union hill are neighborhoods both downtown in KCMO, same goes for the River market which is right by KCUMB
Waldo and martini corner are a couple more bar district/ neighborhoods in KCMO
Some other cool district/ areas in Kansas City are the West Bottoms and the Crossroad district.
Power and light district is also in downtown KC MO, that's another big bar/ restaurant district as well as where the Sprint Center is (the big concerts are here as well as the big 12 basketball tournament, ncaa basketball hall of fame).

There are some KCUMB students that drive from lenexa, Overland park, and some other Kansas suburbs and that only take about 20 minutes to get to KCUMB.
Lee's summit and blue springs are nice suburbs south of the city located in Missouri(about a 25 minute drive)

Ok so here's where it gets real confusing, native Kansas Citians refer to the suburbs north of the Missouri River as "North of the River", "Northland" or Kansas City North. This is completely separate from the city "North Kansas City", which is it's own city/ suburb of KCMO

So basically we have three cities that are all close and have "kansas city" in them. Kansas City, Missouri Kansas City, Kansas and North Kansas City (not to be confused with Kansas City North) : )

Kind of fun, kind of confusing but you guys will all get it down. Mostly, just make sure you tell people you are going to school in Missouri. People will correct you immediately if you say you live in Kansas or go to school in Kansas if you don't.

One more thing, the 3 big schools most people in the area are fans of are the Missouri Tigers, Kansas Jayhawks, and Kansas State Wildcats. Mizzou and Ku fans hate each other, so be prepared to here a lot of Missouri/ Kansas jokes.

I remember the office mentioned this. I should have made an appointment earlier. They were definitely swamped around acceptance day.

Quality Hill sounds like a pretty cool place and we might move there after 1st year. The rent seems really reasonable for what they offer.
 
So I may be a little late to the game, and I have no idea if this is even the right thread. I recently got accepted to the Masters program (hoping for medical school next year) and have lots of questions! Is anyone else on here accepted to it or has already done it?

Awesome! Thank you for answering me! Did you like the program and classes? Do any of the classes coincide with the medical school? Is there any connections going from the masters to the medical school? I'm not sure if you are in the medical school, if so, do you think it helped in preparing you? I can't seem to find much commentary about it on here. Sorry for so many questions

I did like the program a lot. I made a lot of close friends, and I was able to get to know the professors as well as the assistant dean very well (they eventually all wrote me letters of rec). I definitely think the classes prepared me for medical school, especially taking an entire year of anatomy. Kcumb has a new dean now, so I'm not sure what the exact connection as far as getting cob people into the com. I think if you maintain a certain gpa and you Have the required mcat, they offer you an interview. You might want to check with admissions about this.

It's really going to depend on your situation and stats. The program was invaluable to me. My mcat was fine but I needed gpa repair. If you are ok with taking more student loans out, I would definitely consider doing the program. It gets you an in, provides you the opportunity to do research, shows that you can handle tough courses, and It will ,oat likely increase your gpa
 
Thank you for your help! I will definitely be attending the program. I was just unsure what to expect! My stats are pretty average so I'm hoping this will help me for next year! Plus a took a new MCAT yesterday. Would you recommend taking any summer course before or doing anything to prepare for it?

All I really have left to do is find a place to live. Seems like century towers is a popular place but I would prefer to not live there. Are the lofts near River Market and Hyde Park okay?
 
Summer classes aren't necessary at all. I would recommend enjoying your summer. I didn't live at ct but a majority of your class will. It's convenient. There are a ton of places to live, it depends on your price range. I lived in the suburbs but I just recently moved to west port

Yeah they look decent and I like how close they are but I think they are on a waitlist right now. Plus I think it'd be nice to get away from the school when I go home.

It was a false alarm. My friend told me they were releasing them so I think probably pretty soon. Within the next month or so.
 
Hi all,
Hoping to get more specific advise on people who know the application process. I take the MCAT on June 5 and expect to get 28-29 (practice tests), so I suppose that sets me up for a primary in July. I have a 3.8 cGPA, 3.85 science. I think these stats are fine for KCUMB, but I have had trouble finding a DO to shadow (let alone write me a rec letter). All of my connections are MD, and at this point I think forging a relationship with a DO would be rushed. How does a lack of DO shadowing and/or lack of DO rec letter affect application if all other requirements are good? Anyone accepted with a similar shortcoming?
