Have you received the matriculation packet? Be there 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 28 at 9:00 AM for the Class of 2011 family open house (see www.lecom.edu on the right). We go bowling on the 29th, and orientation starts on Monday, July 30.

It is kind of odd that they haven't sent a schedule directly to us, but I think it'll be pretty straightforward once we get there.

When did you get that? I never got that.

I got a big brother/big sister thing in the mail today, info on clubs, and a t-shirt order form.

Did everyone enroll in the health insurance that LECOM sent out?

What kind of laptop will everyone be using? Since the laptop I presently have is nearly unusable, I think I may get this:

I actually decided to ge ta mac. I build my own PCs at home, and I'd like to use a mac, and dual boot windows. I emailed our network guy on campus and he said it's no problem unless they run intoi something that you need windows to run it. He wasn't specific. If you look at one of the picks of last years first years on the new webpage you see half a dozen macs. So I'm getting one of the new Mac book pros.

In other news, of course I didn't have TB. And my wife and I are buying a house on West 8th street, 3 mi from school. Should be closing the week before. I'm so pumped. We're almost there!!!

I found them on the new student page at LECOM.edu

Interesting. Was this page blank a day or two ago? I think it was. Please tell me I'm not losing my mind!

I'm beginning to think I should have told my employer that my last day will be July 6 or earlier rather than July 19... What do you all think? Should I amend my resignation? Even though I'd be burning bridges?

Did everyone enroll in the health insurance that LECOM sent out?

No! I went back on my parents since I'm a student again, I can stay on it until I'm 24 or 25 and its free for me and them! :D (since they already have my little brother on it and its a family plan for one price)

Everyone don't forget to dress up for bowling!

Now it says "professional dress for all orientation activities" vs. "business casual for bowling"....that doesn't mean we have to wear like our interview suits to the open house, etc, does it?? :scared:

And our new "school clothes" to bowling...no jeans even there :(

Ok I just printed out the orientation schedule...what's all the Gross Anatomy 1 and Histology 1, etc...is this class?

I was just wondering the same thing. Not cool.

What's the difference between professional clothing and business casual. Can I wear khakis and collared shirts as a woman? No one seemed to be dressed to fancy at my interview (out of the students around campus, I mean).

Gross Anatomy 1 means the first hour of lecture...Gross Anatomy 2 is the 2nd hour of lecture

Who's going to join me in being a gunner

I especially like the class entitled "Cadaver Sensitivity." If my brothers make much more fun of my classes, I won't be able to hold a straight face during the whole week of orientation!

hi everybody, i'll be part of LECOMs class of 2011. pretty excited, but i've procrastinated and left everything until the last minute. i think i can handle most of it by myself, im just looking for a place right now.
i was wondering if anybody knows:
mill glenn or granada- the prices for the units im interested in seem to be about the same- which one is the better complex?

unfortunately i have to handle all this stuff from california, but i would really appreciate any input anybody has.

thanks

Mill Glen is better. I'm living there.

They may be out of apartments, though.

Stay away from Granada. I have no experience there, but everyone else says to stay away.

Oh orientation.....such fond memories. I was in your place last year wondering the same things. For the bowling I wore a polo shirt and khakis but there were definitely people there with jeans (I would advise against that though) And for orientation just wear what you were going to wear to class and stuff. I seriously wouldn't worry about the dress code. 99% of the clothes I bought before I got to LECOM I never wear anymore. Girls definitely get away with more. I was probably one of the people you saw when you were on your interview.

Sorry to interrupt your thread. Just wanted to see what the new class was like. Enjoy the rest of your summer guys and if you have any questions just send me a message!!

Who here wants to be my Big Sister??!

I already sent in the paperwork, but it just occurred to me that I could always call and ask.

PM me!

We can't wear jeans bowling? Oh good lord, the insanity. It seems to me if we need to keep up such a professional image that perhaps we shouldn't go bowling in the first place. Just a thought. Maybe croquet instead...

I'm trying to get out of the health insurance but it says parents or spouses only. I have medicaid which I think should count but I doubt it does. I'll need to call and check. I never go to the doctor so I'd rather not buy their expensive policy when I could be using the money for extravagant things like feeding my children.

Can we bring our kids to the bowling thing?

Alright I went and checked out the website and I definatly cannot bring my little dudes to the bowling. So, I'm required to go to this bowling thing on a Sunday but can't bring my kids. I think that's lame, but luckily I do have some childcare available. Good lord, I just turned into one of those LECOM whiners I used to attack. Truly ironic...

On a more positive note: I was checking out the orientation week schedule and thinking about gross anatomy and I just got so excited I practically peed myself (sorry for the vulgarity). Is anyone else so incredibly psyched for gross anatomy?? It's gonna be awesome! Hells yeah. We'll see if this mood continues for me once I actually start gross anatomy...

We're gonna be doctors yo. That's freaking rad, man. Go us

You were thinking about "gross" anatomy and you peed yourself? Hahahaha.
I'm dumb.

Is it still prosection? or dissection?

Bowling is required??? I thought it was optional since there was an RSVP on the flier.

So just found out this week that I'll be going to LECOM...There is so much stuff to do. Does anyone have any advice on living arrangements? Apts, townhomes? B/c i'm going up to Erie tomorrow to check some places out. Is anyone looking for a roommate? B/c I would rather live in a nicer townhome with 2 bedrooms than an apt with 1 bedroom..Well if you are interested PM me..thanks :)

It's good that kids aren't allowed. No offense, I'm sure your kids are great and it'll be fun to meet you and them at some point. But there's no reason to have a bunch of kids running around at the first introduction between students and faculty, especially if this bowling night is supposed to be in a professional atmosphere. Plus, with the number of folks showing up, there will be no room at the bowling alley anyway.

Wow, to be young with no responsibility. This year should be interesting for you.

No doubt!

After growing up as a young child while my mom was getting her doctorate, there's no way in hell I'd ever have kids while in grad school. It sucked for me, and I wouldn't want that for my own kids. Growing up in a library is not all that fun.

I plan on being "young with no responsibility [for children]" until I start my career.

I feel for you and your difficult childhood due to your mother's reported difficulty juggling graduate work and a family. Your 'no offense" approach to fellow future class mates with children is inherently offensive. Whether you like it or not or is brings up bad childhood memories, there are more than just a few of your future classmates that have children.

Also, being in a "professional" environment (which a bowling alley is not) implies that you, as the professional, have the ability to adapt to other's social situations. This includes being sensitive to others. Having said that, I will be sensitive for your distaste for children at LECOM functions and will accept your choice to remain single (including not having chilren).:)

Please allow me to clarify my original post:

I think it's great that people have families at LECOM and that some of the students have kids. Like I said, I grew up that way and it is hard but can be done with everyone happy. And I certainly don't have a distaste for kids, kids are awesome and I love hanging out with 'em. It's one of the reasons I chose osteopathic schools, because they're more cool with the family-oriented stuff.

I do look forward to meeting everyones' families. I just think that the very first meeting we all have together of the year (registration won't count because it's so hectic) is not the right place. It's nice to get to know your fellow students in a class this big before significant others and family are thrown in the mix. That's why it's nice, there's a get to know your students/faculty day and then a family barbeque day. That way we meet everyone with less confusion.

Also, I know a bowling alley isn't a professional atmosphere, but that's the way LECOM is spinning it so I'm going with what they said in their mail.

Wait when is there a family bbq?

Are you talking about the open house with "light refreshments"?

Btw I think we should have a get together before that for everyone who is down here that we all talk with on SDN, with SOs/children/pets etc, like a BBQ. I would be down for having it but I only have a townhouse and a george foreman

I have Verizon DSL for 15 bucks a month. I'm using it right now in Erie.

How fast is your internet? What is your download speed? We have TimeWarner and ours is currenly $30 a month, but my bf is against DSL for some reason

Just moved into Willowood appts today. Anybody around?

I just talked to Melissa Watkins about the health history and immunization report deadlines. She told me over the phone it is July 13th, but on the immunization sheet it says by July 1st. I'm going with what she said, but I thought that I'd pass it along in case some of you were coming down to the deadline like myself.

I think that it was the 13th on my papers too. I got in late as well.

I am all for an SDNer meeting! I'm not going to be in town till the week before. Closing on our house on the 23rd.

Yes, I have kids, 2 to be exact! Yea for the families in medical school!

And yes, the website is new and changing ALL the time. Which is kind of fun.

And I am SOOO Pumped for anatomy and all such classes. I'll be missing the bowling, but I'm so stoked to get started! I just talked to the PCSP director, and it is getting more appealing all the time.

I'm excited to meet all of you.

Yay!! We are moving up tomorrow!!!! I am so excited!!! I'm all for a LECOM 2011 get together and will also volunteer my house!

And what is with the business casual for bowling?!? Come on LECOM- let your hair down, kick back and relax!

OK must go read up on this orientation stuff. Like someone else, I have only received the Big Bro/Big Sis info, has anything else been mailed?

With the Big Bro/ Sis stuff there should have been two packets and some papers: c/o 2010 profile (w/ advice for the c/o 2011), student org. list, flyer to join SOMA, etc.... not a lot of detailed info or calendars....

I'd love to do a get together! But only if I can wear jeans.... ;) I'll be in town July 15th-ish.... Even if we didn't do a BBQ, we could just go out to Presque Isle and play frisbee or something. I hear that place is beautiful before it snows.

I'm excited to meet all of you.

I actually just procrastinated like crazy with the health records. I got in back in Dec. Yeah, me. It doesn't really matter I guess, but some of the forms said have everything in by the 13th, but the immunization paper specifically said July 1st. Oh well.

Wife and I are officially moving in tomorrow. Moved the stuff last Sunday (moving a piano is ond of the hardest things I've ever done physically). Getting pretty excited. This has been a long time coming.

Actually, I went to Presque Isle in Feb when I interviewed and it was beautiful with the snow too. Frigid of course, but really pretty. I am definately excited to see it in the summer...

I was there a few weeks ago. The beach sides are something else. Literally you feel as if it's an ocean. The water had a nice light blue color and it was very clean. When everyone decides to do an SDN Meet let me know, I'm down for it 100%.

I'm glad bowling isn't mandatory. I was confused because the info said all orientation activities were manadatory. I guess that means the monday through friday stuff and the Saturday morning thingy.

So, who's going to the bowling thing?

Oh, and when is this official LECOM family barbeque?

And yes, we need a SDN barbeque with kids and pets and mimes. We can all bring a covered dish. I'll tell you, I have been up here a month with just the kiddos and I'm going all The Shining on myself. Being a stay-at-home is cool and all, but I need some adult contact here.

so i think i am going to buy some children for the family bbq and a husband for that matter. Escort children, hmmm...that sounds awfully dirty.
Anyway, i am actually really excited about bowling...I have never bowled over a 60 and i think my luck is about to change...i really hope people get into (maybe even blood spilled) and bring there own ball and those funny looking bowling gloves. I am having flashes of bill murray from kingpin! Anyway, I have yet to receive any info about orientation...is this family bbq for students with families only?

I say SDNers! Family or not! I wont be there for another 4 weeks though. I'm workin on it gang! Filling out loan apps for the new house. We're moving to a house between the school and the water. I can't wait to get there!

If anyone has their physical/immunization form on them, could someone please tell me exactly what it said for the drug test? My form is at my doctor's in MD and I need to tell a lab here what exactly the form says so they can order the correct test. Thanks!

It says:
