LECOM-Erie Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just checked my email and it's there, October 1st, I was hoping it would be earlier but no big deal...just glad to get the invite.

I'm also interviewing Oct 1st. Good luck and see you then.

the interview on Friday is making me nervous:scared:

Me too. I'm leaving tomorrow night on a red eye.

Has anyone gone and visited the Seton Hill Campus? Is it nice and does it have a small town feel? I am interested in PBL, but I haven't had a chance to see the Seton Hill campus, so I don't know which campus to put as my top choice.

Just mailed out my matriculation deposit yesterday.

I am not sure if having to wait 11 months before starting is a good thing or a bad thing. On the one hand, I am not getting any younger and it is frustrating to have to wait almost a year. On the other hand, I know I should enjoy the last year I will ever have of an easy life. 🙂

Seton Hill Univ has a 200 acre campus and it looks almost rural (and very picturesque) on the web site. In talking to people from Greensburg, this area definitely has a small town feel to it and is a safe, low crime area. I am planning on driving out there sometime in the next few weeks to get a feel for my commute and take a look. I'll post on here to let people know what I find. That doesn't help you for Friday, though.

Futuredoc I think that once you see that Wellness Center up there you will forget about Seton Hill. It is seriously amazing. I don't know if anyone has noticed this but the tuition at SH is a couple grand more per year than at Erie and there is no multimillion dollar fancy gym there. 🙁 I picked SH because I live an hour away and can commute from my current residence. Otherwise, I would have picked Erie.

The way I am looking at it is that I have a full year to enjoy everything one last time. Skiing, snowboarding, as much football as I can watch, hopefully sneak in some camping and concerts at the start of next summer. Also I do not know about the rest of you but my wardrobe will need to do a 180 before next summer. I own a few dress shirts, 2 ties, 1 pair of dress pants and 1 pair of black socks. This gives me plenty of time to shop around and grab stuff on sale.

avion, if you aren't too worried about brands, Burlington Coat Factory is a great place to get dress clothes. You can get two ties for $15 and usually dress shirts are under $20.

Avion, to listen to us talk it sounds like we are getting ready to serve a prison sentence. 😉

I'm okay on the wardrobe issue since I have been working full time for more years than I care to admit.

Another interview invite - Oct 1st

10 days from secondary submission to interview offer

Sweet, will have to keep this in mind.

No, not quite prison, maybe that last post was a bit dramatic. But ready to not have any where near the free time I have now. I have also been working full time for longer than I would have originally liked but will not complain. I think things have worked out well.

Just curious, you said it took 10 days to get an interview invite. So does that mean you submitted the secondary on 7/31? When did you get the "LECOM Erie has processed your supplemental application" email?

Thanks!

Secondary Received 6/24
Secondary Submitted 7/31
Secondary Processed 8/4

So I suppose 6 true days then and 4 of them business days

Just recieved the supplemental processed email. But I just realized I don't meet their 6 english credits prerequisite. Will this affect my application at all? Although I graduated, I'm sure I'll be able to take the course some time before matriculation if needed at a local college. Also, I've taken some writing intensive courses so hopefully they will accept that in lieu of a strict english dept course.

you guys received an email that specifically said that your supplemental was being processed? I submitted mine on the 29th, but all the feedback I got after that was my status which still says that my supplemental has been received and that it will go under review.

No, you don't get an e-mail saying you're under review. You have to check the admission portal and your status updates are there.

I submitted my secondary on 8/4, and I got an email on 8/9 that said the office of admissions at LECOM-E processed my supplemental application. When I logged onto the portal, my status changed from "We received your supplemental application. The review process will begin on your file. You will be notified when updates are made" to "Your application is under review."

Hahah I just asked the same question two seconds after you. See you there!!!

Good stuff, see you there! What hotel are you thinking? I'm thinking cheap is best (Days Inn) but I'll have to read this thread again and see if anyone has suggestions on easy transport to the interview. I'm not very familiar with Erie.

I think Days Inn provides free shuttles to take you to your interview/airport.

Congrats! 😀👍

thx!! 🙂

Hey! It won't delay your application process at all...if they won't substitute your writing intensive courses then if you are accepted they will just say that you need to complete the 6 credits before matriculation. I would call and just ask about the substitution also.

Yeah, I got wicked lucky. I was supposed to start grad school in a different city on Aug 18th, with the intention of using the masters to get into med school. Since I got in, I withdrew from the program to save some money. I was looking at last years forum and the first interview was not until Aug 24th (I think, or some other date late Aug). I would have already started the program had that of happened this year.

LECOM rec'd my primary on Jul 22nd, rec'd my secondary on Jul 29th and I just got my interview invite today for Oct 15!

I am super excited for it. I live in Philly and I'm going to make the 7 hour driver the day before...this is a pretty awesome feeling.

I'm thinking of driving to Seton Hill to check out the campus because I have never seen the town, and want to do PBL but don't know which campus. You should go explore the area.

See you Friday🙂

You could certainly do this if you have a whole day to kill. As long as you know Greensburg is a three hour drive from Erie.

Good luck to all the Friday interviewees! If it turns out they are doing group interviews again don't panic...it is actually easier than an individual interview in many respects. It is also kind of interesting to see what other interviewees are saying.

I didn't have time but I would have loved to find a beach on Lake Erie, visit the Maritime Museum, and see Presque isle Downs (casino and horse racing). I also recommend that you take advantage of the swimming pool if your hotel has one. 🙂

What's the interview format for LECOM? Is it open or closed? Do you interview with any students?

in this group style interview, how long did each person have to answer a question? i definitely want to elaborate on my answers but also be as straight to the point as possible. def dont want to be too long or too short

finally under review again now that they got my new mcat score!

Congrats on all the interviews/acceptances everyone. Looks like your hard work is paying off.

I'm actually interviewing in a couple weeks at LECOM and was looking to know what to expect in the interview (i.e. group vs individual, behavioral interview vs regular interview, open file vs closed file, difficult/surprise questions, etc).

Please let me know.

Again, congrats on getting in and make sure you enjoy your last year of having a life (just kidding 😉)
