LECOM-Erie Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

Hey All - Congrats to those accepted 👍 and good luck to those on the waitlist:xf:.

I started up a Facebook group for accepted students who plan on matriculating @ LECOM-E for the DO program. It'd also be nice if a few current students wanted to join and give their 2 cents to new students.

Any one interested in joining the link is below.

I couldn't find one - but If someone already started one of these let me know and I'll delete the group.

Interview in about a week. Getting a little bit nervous and a whole lot excited. Great school from what I have read and heard. Hope to soon be A member of the 2015 class. Other than a great school the perks of going there include wegmans ( pretty much limited to where I live based on where they are located) and even though Rochester amercians don't play hockey there, Stephen Colbert's team does. Well, good luck to everyone else interviewing...especially on Oct 1.

I joined!
😀

I joined the FB group as well! I've actually been waiting for it!!!

I understand, I have resisted the urges to start looking at apts, I know if I start it will only make things worse. However by the time the first of the year comes around I will probably start looking. I would really like one of those apts right next to campus.
I want one of those apts too! Apparently they fill up real quickly?

Saw this on LECOM's site today. They said starting in the Fall 2011, they will increase the Bradenton campus from 150 to 182 for class size. Now, I know this doesn't apply to us, but it says that between the three campuses that they have, total class size will now go from 504 to 536. That means 354 spots open between Erie and Seton Hill. That doesn't add up though with the number on Eduers which says 2007 saw 762 students accepted and 421 enrolled. Anyways, just throwing that out there.

My portal has said my application has been under review since 09/20. I was just wondering if they send e-mail updates or if you have to keep checking the portal. Usually schools send a complete email but just received one saying the supplemental has been processed. I am OCD by now and keep checking the portal a couple times of day for an interview invite, but it's only been a couple of days haha

Any idea what is really quickly? If you want one have it booked by March? Feb? Jan?
My understanding is that there's usually a waiting list 60 to 80 people long for the apartments closest to LECOM (but some of those will end up getting housing elsewhere and forget to remove themselves from the waiting lists they're on.) Seems like the best advice if you want one is to get on the waiting list as soon as you know you're definitely coming to Erie. The owners also price gouge a bit due to the high demand--the apartments closest to LECOM are usually quite a bit more expensive--definitely look for a roommate there unless you have an extra source of income (family, spouse, job, et cetera.)

Joined, I sent you a message with a friend invite as well. Lets get some more people in there!

Hey guys, quick question. After submitting your secondaries how long did it take approximately before you heard back for an interview? I'm just wondering cause I really want to go to LECOM and I'm dying here checking my email and LECOM Portal everyday lol.

I have been under review since the last week of August. They get thousands of applications and it takes them time to get through them. I called them after 3 weeks and they said it could take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. So if you have all your information in then sit back and relax (even though it seems impossible). They will send an email and call you only after they review your application and decide to give you an interview or else you get a rejection letter in the mail. Be patient and hopefully it will pay off. Good luck.

I'm in.

Get yourself on a waitlist in January if you want them.

They are constantly building new buildings however, so more spots will be opening.

My file has also been "under review" since late august...this sucks, they need to hurry up! haha

Just to chime in with the housing.

Laurel Springs and Ridge are the ones right next to the Grandview campus and are relatively affordable (for "decent" housing close to campus). If you don't mind living 3-4 blocks away, check out the Carollwood community on Zuck road which is also pretty nice (900 or so for a 2BR 2 garage and 1150 for a 3BR 2 BR 2 garage).

If you're in PBL, you can check out Landmark Square, Lovell Place or these apartments right next to the Bayfront Campus (literally right next to) but their name escapes me at the moment.

I would highly advise against Granada at all costs =X

Can any current/former LECOM-E students who have families (spouse/SO/kids) comment on how life in Erie is for them? Jobs, things-to-do, childcare, schools, safety, etc.?

The general idea of things that I got from recruitment people and two current students I spoke with was that there are jobs if you are willing to work, and childcare is pretty cheap, crime is low. Schools I haven't heard anything about.

And yes, I know it snows. A lot. A lot lot. Is that just a required answer whenever someone asks about Erie, PA???? 🙂

I am currently an MS-II at the Erie pathway, in the ISP pathway. I am a married mother of 2 children, ages 12 and 7. Lots of students have families and the area is very family friendly and safe. When looking for housing, be sure that you are not in the city of Erie. The campus borders the city of Erie and Millcreek township. The schools are much better in Millcreek (and the other outlying townships). There are also a few small towns a short distance from campus that many people are able to afford renting a house. A friend of mine rents a house in Waterford (10 miles south of Campus). She and her husband have a large house, large yard and a barn for their horse!

Thanks for the info!

I too thank you for that tidbit! I am PBL and used to driving (I currently drive 130 miles one-way once a week from my home in SC to my favorite job in GA).
No kids but 2 spoiled big dogs and need a yard. Finally sold my house in SC (2 years in this ugly market) and not really sure I want to buy again, particularly if we just move again in 3 years for residency. (I'm in the PA track.)
I'll check out the smaller towns--thanks!
🙂 lisa

the only thing it says under my application status is "your application is currently under review." When I go under requirments etc. it says that my letter requirments are not yet met. however I know they don't ask for them unless your invited for an interview so.....am I invited for an interview? I am frickin confused/anxious right now. Please tell me ill be hearing from them?! lol

I have an interview set for Nov 5, and my file status says that I am missing my DO letter, which you only need to submit if accepted. Since I know that I'm not accepted pre-interview, I am guessing that the same logic applies to pre-interview invite. Definitely not saying that you do not have an interview, but I don't think you can tell from the missing requirements list. It is super confusing/anxiety inducing, but hang in there! :luck:

Mine was processed on July 29th but still under reviewed...🙁 I have sent a couple emails to them but there is no response from them...

I was complete since July 20th... but still under review..
anyone else?

Did anyone else apply to Seton Hill and Erie?

When I filled out my secondary, I listed Seton Hill as top choice, as I am most interested in PBL and it's close to Pittsburgh and would be easier for my boyfriend to find a job... I had a hard time choosing though. The more I look into it, the more I think Erie is a better fit - I'm not sure if we can change our selection or if it even matters. Some people have posted about getting into both programs. Any thoughts?

I submitted my secondary 8/13 and received the interview invite 8/23 for Erie/ Seton Hill. Submitted 8/13 to Bradenton and received review notice (application to be presented again to committee) 9/17.

At the interview you list which campus/pathway you want more, so you can change to Erie PBL and put it as your top choice.

You cannot be accepted to both Erie and Seton Hill. They accept you first then look at which campus/pathway you want.

Good Luck at your interview

For people who have already interviewed. Where do we go the day of the interview? In the email I received for the interview invitation, I was only given an address.
Location: 1858 West Grandview Blvd, Erie, PA

Is there anywhere specific I need to go or are there further directions inside that address?.

Thanks.

The address is good enough. They only have one building there and you just have to go into the front door. Someone will be waiting for you at the front desk.

And by front door they mean back door, as the back of the school is the front.

I finally got my interview invite for 11/11 after being "under review" since july 1st!! Anyone else going then?

FYI, the "front door" isn't the large door facing W. Grandview blvd. From W. Grandview, turn into the drive way at the light in front of the school and follow the driveway all the way down hill to the big parking lot. Go through through the doors facing the big parking lot (the door that the herd of students will be going through).

Same here!! I was complete since 7/20 and just got interview for 11/11.
I'm so excited! see you then!

Interview invite for November 11th as well! I was complete 8/4. Phew, I think I blew my speakers out just now.

So my applications were supposed to be submitted to Lecom today as well as other schools. I already submitted my first mcat and wrote on there that I planned to retake. Well I got the retake back and I went from a 27Q to a 25N. Since I already submitted my first score, can I just remove off my application that I planned to retake it and pretend like I never took it the second time around? Or will see it and see that I went down and only look at the 25?

Congrats! I got an invite for the same date, I was complete around the same time as well.

I will be withdrawing my application and cancelling my interview here.

Good luck to everyone!

😱 I actually interviewed there last week. I thought the back door was the front door. my bad.. 😳

Hello all, I finally got an interview to LECOM, set up for 11/11. Honestly, I have never had a group interview before, so i am questioning what to expect...

I've been searching around the threads for the last 20 minutes, but I can't find any info on people's interview experiences at LECOM. Does anybody have any links?

Danke shane, darlin', danke shane.

I am sure I am :beat: but can you turn your "special" letters in after the interview? It says that you need to have them in before the interview but, damn, this caught me by surprise!

Can someone do me a favor? If you have been accepted and also have pre-reqs to take, will you check your portal and see if it still says you need to take them? I believe it is under "folder items". I am asking because I thought I needed to take a pre-req, but its been checked off as being met (which isn't unreasonable because I've taken several similar classes, so they may have been fine with those that I've taken).

This happened to me post-interview. Pre-interview I was deficient psych credits and enrolled in a psych course, interviewed, got accepted and they listed the credits as completed. What's weird is that there is no way they could have known that I had enrolled in the course, other than that I had vaguely mentioned that at some point I would do so.

Hmm...that is nearly the exact scenario I'm in, however, I did not enroll in the course I was deficient in, but had numerous other "similar" credits, so I thought maybe they just waved my last one. I was only deficient 1 credit though.

what are you guys who have interviews at both LECOMs but are already accepted to one doing? are u guys withdrawing from the other school or still checking out the other school?
