LECOM-Erie Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am sure I am :beat: but can you turn your "special" letters in after the interview? It says that you need to have them in before the interview but, damn, this caught me by surprise!

What do you mean by "special"?

Hey guys, quick question. After submitting your secondaries how long did it take approximately before you heard back for an interview? I'm just wondering cause I really want to go to LECOM and I'm dying here checking my email and LECOM Portal everyday lol.

I was complete near the end of June. After a 13 week wait, I received an interview invite today. So, patience, lol...

It says that this year they require additional letters from a Pre-Health advisor and a DO that is tailored specifically for their school.

The letters don't have to be specifically tailored to LECOM. I just submitted my DO letter and pre-med committee letter and that was sufficient. I was accepted too. So just submit your regular letters like you submit them to every other school. Also, my pre-med committee letter was received the day before or the day of my interview. I think just as long as it is on its way and will be there by the time the committee meets will be fine.

Declined my acceptance. Veeerrry strange feeling. However, I got into DMU and that was a MUCH better fit for me. Plus, I wasn't ready to decide by the 18th! Good luck to the rest of the LECOM applicants. Hopefully someone who really wants it gets my spot!! 🙂

Hey, guys. Interviewing here on 11/18. Hopeful to see fellow SDNers there.

I was waitlisted at DMU 2 years ago. Lovely campus. I would have been happy there too but fates are funny, aren't they? Best wishes to you.

Just withdrew. Had an interview the 15th if anybody wants to try and schedule it.

Does anyone know when the admission board meets?
Early in the cycle last year, they met the day of the interviews and our portals changed the day after (this was for group interviews--I can't comment on the one-on-one format ones.)

How long do u guysb think it will say "application under review" on my status? Bits been about a wee and I haven't heard anything? Since the commitee meets every wednsday does that mean I'm rejected since I haven't received an invite?

The timing kind of varies some people have only been under review for awhile and gotten invites others just got invites and have been complete since late June. Dont assume just because its been a little time that you have been rejected, but you can always update them or if you know you have good letters you can send those in so they see them when they review you.

Are they still doing group interviews currently? Or has it switched over to one-on-one?

Does anyone know the actual dates for orientation next July? I'm trying to find out if I can commit to a relay in Washington state with my sister July 22-23. I think that might be cutting it close but I'm not sure.
Thanks!
Lisa

Just interviewed yesterday and the students where divided up to attend one group interview. Lasted from 9:30-11 AM and there was two people asking questions to 8 interviewees. One was a DO and the other was a phd. Our was not so much a discussion but a question and answer, meaning they would ask a question and you felt willing to answer you put your hand up. From what I heard from other interviewees was that they had more a discussion. They felt that was harder then what my group had because they felt awkward stepping to speak ( worrying they were cutting someone off..not wanting to be rude...the admission counselor earlier in the day to be polite to other guests during the interviews) thus leading to feel like they didn't say as much as they wanted.

good to know its still a little early. ive been checking my status like a madman and now, i even check it on the weekends because I didnt check all last weekend and on monday mourning when I checked it said "application under review". the last time I checked was friday afternoon at 5 and it said "application on hold". I guess someone must have been there over the weekend?

I've got an 11/12 interview. If anyone wants to take it I'll be withdrawing on Monday. Then again I could always hold it for now until someone on SDN wants it  Either way I won't be attending this one.

Ahhhhh, you got into med school?! Congratulations!!!!!!!! You've made it! And we've made it! I'm so happy for you! 😀

This year it was the last weekend of July, so if that's the same case next year, orientation would start on July 31st. If you call admissions and ask, they can probably tell you definitively though.

Yay! Where did you decide to go

Check it out dude

oh and what hotels are people recommending to stay at? If I fly out, I'm gonna have to end up staying two nights to have a MUCH cheaper plane ticket but will have to pay two nights hotel. Is the one that cost $44 a good spot?

did they know about your other acceptance? do you think it will hurt your chances considering the affiliated school already accepted you?

I was backwards and interviewed at Bradenton after an Erie acceptance. Bradenton did ask about my status, and I told them that I had been accepted. I don't think it hurt me, because I immediately told them why I was still interested in interviewing with Bradenton despite my acceptance at Erie. I made it seem as though I preferred Bradenton over Erie (even though I still am pretty much split between the two).

I will call Bradenton Wednesday to receive the final decision on my application and will let you know whether the acceptance may have hurt me or not.:xf:

I stayed 2 nights at the Econolodge which is the 2nd cheapest one. The only reason I chose it over the cheapest was that it is closest to the LECOM-E campus; this way, I was the final morning hotel pick-up for the shuttle's route before going to the campus. I think the cheapest one was one of the first morning hotel pick-ups.

Edit: On second thought, I actually don't think Erie will ask specifics about your Bradenton interview status since you will probably be in a group interview; and, that question would be irrelevant to the rest in the group in the interview.

hmm I was considering of renting a car but I guess if I do shuttle, ill check the econolodge.

in regards to the campuses, I figured they wouldn't want to compete with each other for students and would probably just reject/waitlist someone who already was accepted and put the deposit down.

my concern about withdrawing is missing out on a great school that I didn't even give a chance to visit and really evaluate

I stayed at the econlodge and had no problems there. It was surprisingly quite nice for the money with a nice breakfast ( even though I was too jitter to eat much) the shuttle came at 7:15 to take people to interview. Personally I drove myself which was nice because I heard some hotels, the shuttle didn't come until 7:45.

Thanks!! 😀 I got into AZCOM. I know I wouldn't go to LECOM-E over AZCOM so I'm withdrawing. As of right now I'm only planning on attending my KCOM interview on 10/28 and then it will depend on if/where I get any additional interviews. AZCOM is definitely way up my list though.

I was in the reverse order like g8orlife, but it didn't really come up more than just a passing comment in my Bradenton interview, but they accepted me to both so I have no reason to think they held it against me. And I agree that No one will ask you about it because of the group interviews at Erie, it just wouldn't work well. I liked the econolodge there was nothing wrong but I drove to the interview so I have no comment about their shuttle. It seemed to be a good school but I chose seton hill because I wanted to be closer to a major city if I decided to attend.

I just wanted to confirm that we get to give input on our campus preference @ the interview.

Also, anyone else interviewing this Friday?

Thanks, I got an email reply from Amy Rowe that she was "pretty sure it was the last week of July", but that's as much as I can get. Hmm.

Anybody know the interview/acceptance rate is for attending year interviews?

I'll be there this Friday also, probably at the Comfort Inn! See you guys there 👍

which do you think you'll attend between the two? I'm just wondering if I should shell out the money. I liked bradenton but am just curious about erie being that its been around longer. don't know if thats a good enough reason though. congrats to both acceptances! looks like u still have the option to experience snow if you wanted to!

If I end up attending Lecom it will probably be Bradenton, but that's just me you should see what is better for you, and if you can go see the seton hill campus it's pretty nice.

finally got the official lecomb letter, will be withdrawing from my 10/22 interview, hope it'll help someone here

I have an interview for 1/21/20011. Should I just accept it, or is there any benefit to emailing back and trying to get one sooner?

first thing accept it... then you can call every couple of days to see if an earlier spot opened up

Do you get a complete e-mail at this school or just the e-mail saying your supplemental application has been processed and application under review under the portal? Also, I e-mailed the admissions to see if it would be of any help to send in letters or rec earlier and I did not get a reply yet.

And I had opened another supplemental application just to make sure you don't have to check somewhere if you're applying for the Bradenton campus. Now everytime I visit, it says supplemental app in progress so I hope this didn't screw up my complete status.

I received an email saying, "The Office of Admissions at LECOM Erie has processed your supplemental application." And yes, the portal then said, "Under review." I'd make sure everything is complete in the "requirements" section. Your letters don't have to be in yet, though.

Hate to say this but a couple of times I did email admissions and I never got a response.

You're okay because I have been accepted and my portal still says my supp app is "in progress." 🙂

I withdrew my interview late today (4pm-ish) so I doubt anyone has gotten it thus far. For those of you looking to move up, call tomorrow morning and see if you can get an earlier one. I withdrew for 11/12.

ive been looking for any indication to lean one way or the other and i think ill go with your opinion since you've seen both campuses

Hey guys,
I sent in my Letters 2 weeks ago and they still haven't been received, any advice on when they will mark them being received on the admissions status?

You might want to call them. How were they sent? I sent mine through interfolio and had the same problem where they were not marked as received. I called them, asked to speak with medical admissions and they got them marked as received.

Admission status changed today to "The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days." ...hope that's a good sign.
