LECOM-Erie Discussion Thread 2010-2011

Invited to interview 1/14. I am freaking out. Is it too late?

That seems like a crazy long time away from now, but i'm sure you'll be fine. My interview invite came in august, and it wasn't scheduled until tomorrow (10/15) so i'm sure you'll be fine.

I've going through old post and have noticed a pattern. Acceptances seem to be received on the Thursday two weeks after the interview. Just a note for everyone with upcoming interviews. Good luck

That sounds about right. They told us to try to get our DO letters to them in two weeks so they don't have to delay their decision. Yesterday was Thursday, and I got an e-mail asking for my DO letter to be sent and telling me which one they already have. That was only one week after my interview, granted, so I'm not sure if they means there were going to make a decision or not... but hopefully my letter gets there soon.

Good luck everyone! :luck: And good job on investigating the pattern 👍

I think the theory might be chance, I did not get my letter until the Wednesday of the third week after the interview (and I only live three hours from Erie).

Quite possible. A girl that interviewed with me found out on a Wednesday before I did and she lives in California, where I live three hours away in Rochester, ny and got my letter the next day. Not saying it's an exact science but a pattern based on several previous post of ppl interviewing on different days and finding out Thursday two weeks latter.

I live in Roc to. Are you still in school? I graduated from UR in 09.

No, I also graduated in 09 from Binghamton University. Currently, I work at Syracuse University as a lab tech. I'm in LDP, you? I'm on the LECOM Facebook page.

Just got back from my interview (10/15)-- what a welcoming atmosphere! Just a note to those planning on interviewing here soon: If you plan on staying at one of the Scott hotels LECOM provides info about, they do have a shuttle to pick you up and drop you off at the airport. They can also use the shuttle to drop you off and pick you up from the school. The catch-- hotels ask that you request the shuttle service in the special requests section when you initially book the hotel room. Otherwise they wont guarantee they can provide the service and you wind up spending some cash on a cab. The super friendly staff at Days Inn asked I post this on the forum because they have been having so many students disapointed.

Hey guys, I am interviewing here soon, I was wondering what time the interview ended for you guys? I know it says 1pm, but did it ever go longer for anyone? And I was wondering if a departing flight at 3:30 was too early or not. Thanks for any replies!

First off, love your avatar...simply amazing. Mine finished at 1:30. The itinerary says lunch with students at 1 pm and your free to leave anytime during that. I stayed until 1:30 to talk. Note: the lunch for us was fruit salad, regular green salad, pop (or soda), and a bag of cookies. If that is not enough to sustain you, may want to plan to get some food afterwards.

The Days Inn was atrocious. I don't recommend people staying there. My room smelled bad (should have been non-smoking but someone definitely smoked something in there recently), the staff were disorganized, hallways were loud, and the elevator broke while attempting to use it on my way to the interview. Not a way to start your morning before an interview.

I've slept in worse conditions before, I'm not that prissy or anything, but the extra stress before an interview isn't needed and it didn't seem up to par to some of the other comparable hotels I've stayed at for interviews or even other Days Inn I've been at in the past. The staff seemed dismissive towards their customers as well.

I had the same issue with the "non-smoking" room I was in.

Just because my flight got into PA around 10pm, I only wound up talking to the grave shift staff member and he was really friendly, but there was a woman there who did have an attitude with another customer. Did not know the whole story there, so I dismissed it.

The shuttle part applies to all of the Scott hotels (supposedly) and figured it was worth posting considering its $40-50 round trip for a cab and I am really frugal.

The lunch started at 1pm for me and most of the interviewees (and 1st year medical students talking to us) were done about 1:30pm. I read earlier on this forum of the possibility of doing a mock PBL session that would run later, but that never was mentioned by any of the staff (and I had a PBL facilitator as one of my interviewers). There were at least 4 people who left about 1:15 to catch a plane so I dont think its an issue-- especially since the airport is tiny and only fifteen minutes(ish) away.

a LECOM rep came to my school wednesday of last week and told me and some other girl that they offer interviews based primarily on mcat scores and when you were complete. So all applicants are organized by mcat and then they start offering interviews based on that...he said to get the most competitive applicants

I disagree. I don't know their exact criteria, but my mcat wasn't the greatest and I didn't apply early; and, I got accepted. I also spoke to other interviewees who's mcats weren't that amazing.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could give me a word of advice! I have applied to LECOM about 2-3 weeks ago and still haven't heard a word from them. My MCAT score was a 24 and cGPA is a 3.54. I've been trying to get a hold of someone for the past week but NOONE will pick up their phones at LECOM i feel like they have caller ID or something. Any advice if I should keep calling or if there's a reason they haven't changed my application status yet!

Thanks!

I've been waiting for 2 months with a 28/3.80 - I got an answering machine today as well. Guess I will try again tomorrow!

2-3 weeks isn't that much time. Instead of calling and waiting, if I were you, I'd work on upgrading my application. Then, I'd send them an email showing that I strengthened my application. I think it may be necessary in your case to make up for your mcat.
Just my opinion...

Yeah, if you're really interested in lecom, I think you should get in contact with Dr. Moore. Find his email online and briefly introduce yourself and your strong interest in lecom. With your stats, you should hear something soon.
...Again, just my opinion...

Hey thanks I really appreciate your opinion I can use all the advice I can get but what do you mean strengthen my app? How do I add to my application if it is already submitted and how would I go about doing this? More volunteering? Better grades? More shadowing experience? or do you mean retake the MCAT and reapply next year?

Not reapply. I mean that over the next month, you should try to do as much shadowing and volunteering as you can; if you recently received a health profession certificate such as EMT or CNA, then work more hours; if you're involved in research, try to complete it or display it at a presentation.

Then, if you don't here from them 1-2 months from now, you can send the admissions committee an email showing extra ECs that they can add to your application. This not only shows your interest in their program, but it also shows that you are constantly improving the strength of your application. Applicants usually do this to move up the waitlist at the schools in which they are most interested.

I can finally join the site, I got my acceptance to lecom-pbl. I was in the Oct. 8 interview group. Everyone was driving me crazy with their acceptances and comments! Congrats to everyone that has gotten in and I am sure everyone stressing out like I was will do well too!

Thanks for the reply and info. I saw that you you were accepted here, Congrats! Good luck with everything and enjoy the year off

At my interview on 7/16 we weren't done until about 2:15 PM. At the time, I was surprised it ran over so late though I drove in so it didn't matter for me. We had lunch from 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM and then the tours of the main bldg and Wellness Center took up the remaining time. It appears they are changing the day's schedule around based on what people are posting.

Lunch was not great at my interview - pizza, iceberg lettuce salad, and soda. :lame:

I stayed at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. It is not on the list of hotels LECOM provides but the rate with a AAA discount booked online directly through the Marriott site was competitive. This hotel was really nice and clean and had a small swimming pool which I used to relax the night before my interview. 🙂 It is also closer to LECOM than any of the hotels on LECOM's list. I don't know if they have a shuttle, though, because I drove in and had my car to get to the interview.

accepted! Class of 2015. Best of luck to everyone who is still waiting. I don't have great stats and thought I blew my interview, so don't lose hope.

Congratulations!! And thanks for adding a little humility to your post...helps us mere mortals feel like we have a shot at acceptance 🙂

Okay so I just interviewed yesterday(10/19). And this morning no change in the portal. But I just barely checked and it says "A decision has been made and you will be notified by mail within 30 days". Could they really make a decision that fast. Good ? Bad? Interesting nonetheless.

Did anyone else who interviewed yesterday get the status change?

I also had the same status change. Not sure what it means...What interview panel were you in A-D? How do you think your interview went?

It doesn't mean anything bad. The admissions committee meets on Wednesdays and makes decisions on everyone who had interviewed that week. You should expect a letter in the mail next week. Mine got to me on Friday, but I live in the Northwest.

I was in panel C. I thought it went ok. Everyone seemed to be very competitve when it came to answering questions. Im not sure exactly what they were looking for...

I wonder if there are any miniscule changes in the portal that indicate status. Oh well .. I will have to be patient. My intuition makes me think that unless I did horribly in the interview(which I think in a group would be hard unless I was offensive), that a quick denial would be less likely. But that is just conjecture, which is my favorite thing to do lately, play devils advocate etc.. I now have 2 interviews to hear back on and its making me anxious and excited at the same time.

Yea i thought it went well I was in A...I guess we will see🙂 Goodluck!

interview was 10/8. LDP, which I selected as my first choice.
25O MCAT, 3.7 sci and overall gpa, and didn't get to say much at all during the interview...there is hope!

I'm just wondering for those of you that have had recent interview invites when you were complete. I heard it takes about 4-6 weeks to get an interview invite. I was complete on 09/20, so I am just getting a little worried, thanks!

Interviewed 10/1 and accepted today 😀. I didn't think the interview went badly but I definitely wasn't thinking "that went really well" after....so don't be discouraged if you're still waiting and felt your interview wasn't great.

I thought I did horrible as well. I was a bit nervous and I just didn't really get to say anything that I thought would help my chances. I left feeling like I no longer had a shot at LECOM (the school I originally thought I had the best chance of getting into). Needless to say I was in complete shock when I got the good news yesterday.

For those of you who are still waiting to interview. As you probably know by now, they are doing group interviews (2 interviewers, 8 applicants). For some people this atmosphere is relaxing, and for others, like myself, it adds a bit of undesired "competition" to the interview. Even though I did not have what I would consider a "successful" interview, I would still like to offer a few words of advice. In my interview they asked almost all situational questions (ex: "Should physicians be held to higher standards than firemen and garbagemen?"). For these types of questions I guess it is best to try to think of something different than the person/people answering ahead of you said, but at the same time add in if you agree or disagree with what has previously been said. All in all the interview really is not that bad, I just wish I had approached it differently. PM me if you want more details. Good luck 🙂

I've been lurking on SDN for a bit, I found the LECOM thread very helpful when preparing for the interview. Thanks everyone for sharing their experiences.

Interviewed: 10/1
Status change: 10/13
Acceptance: 10/20, PBL

Good luck to everyone interviewing, just be yourself.🙂

Can those of you who have been given interviews or acceptances please share your stats.

I am very interested in LECOM and have a 3.55 cumm 3.75 science and 27Q. I applied about a month ago and am REALLY hoping for an interview, so I am wondering if I should expect one with my stats (solid ECs and LORs). LECOM-B rejected me flat out so im a bit nervous.

I don't know why you'd have an issue at LECOM-E. LECOM-B only has one class, so I'm sure they accept fewer students, so maybe their class is getting full already.

I hope u are right.
What do you mean Lecom-B has only one class?

Also, I see that you interviewed at Touro-CA and Lecom-E.
I was hoping you could tell me what you got your secondaries into these schools. Also, what did you think of Touro-CA. I am really interested in them as well. Thanks.

LECOM-B only has a PBL class. LECOM-E has PBL, LDP, ISP, and another few for PA's and primary care docs. I withdrew from my T-CA interview.
