suit by all means.
charcoal or navy are your best bets - its not a funeral/wedding/formal event, so black is not a good idea. white shirt, light blue if you gotta. dont be too wild, but if your tie has a little color thats fine (its probably good if it matches your get up), just dont look like a clown. best of luck
so, what should a guy wear to an interview? i know it sounds stupid, but I'm not sure whether I should wear a suit or a sports coat with slacks. thanks.
so not wearing a suit is a bad idea, right?
My guy Lamont is right with the suit colors, but black is perfectly acceptable - so do not go out a buy a new suit if you don't need to. Many, many people (males and females) wear black. Also, many people wear other shirt colors than white. I've seen everything including white, red, blue, green, and all the shades of those colors. I wore a burnt orange color shirt, Jerry Garcia tie with orange, red, yellow, and black, and a black suit. Now, I'm not saying to show up in a white suit looking like John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever, but you don't need to be afraid to show some personality thru your clothes. I think if you wear clothes that fit who you are, but still professional, then you will be more comfortable, which only helps during an interview. Again, to be redundant - it has to be professional.
Even if you have a traditional suit (which you should - black, charcoal, or navy) and a white shirt, you can wear a fun, professional tie, don't be afraid to if you want to wear one. I think it is refreshing to see.
These ties (Jerry Garcia) are extremely professional (a couple of our doctors here wear them), but very fun......
http://www.abcneckties.com/jerrygarcia.html I have the one called Emerging Elephant and I love it....and I have received many complements.
IMO, these are the things I absolutely would not wear to an interview, given that one is wearing a normal suit and dress shoes:
- A doctor/medical tie
- anything that says Dr. [insert your name]
- T-shirt that looks like a suit (although I'd laugh, then have you go change)
- Tie that has to do with a major sporting team (if you have a nice, professional tie from your college, I think that would be kinda cool, BUT it has to be professional)
- Anything with a clown
- Neon shirt/tie
Just my $0.02.
