are the thinkpads going to be tablets?
are the thinkpads going to be tablets?
Please tell me you are joking with this question.....PLEASE?!?!?!?! 🙄![]()
I think everyone knows that you guys/gals already have tablets, but to be fair IBM DOES have both tablets and notebooks 😉![]()
I apologize in advance if any of these questions have previously been answered, I actually HAVE read pretty much this entire forum, but I can't remember what was covered for sure.
My interview is this Friday, 2/29...yay for leap years!
But anyways, just a few questions about the actual interview:
1) How much walking do we really do? And, do we do any walking outside? (this is a shoes related question)
2) Am I supposed to bring a notebook or anything like that with me? I know some schools specifically tell you to bring one, but I haven't seen anything about that for LMU-DCOM.
3) If I have a letter from the doctor I work for that has not yet been sent (he just finished it today) would it be weird or inappropriate to bring the letter with me to the interview? Would it be better to just send it in the mail ASAP and hope they get it before making any decisions?
Thanks for any info!!! And hopefully I will see some of you on Friday (and/or Thursday night). 😛
*Anyone out there who will also be interviewing this Friday let me know!!*

I understand factoring in the cost of pens, but there are ways around that I think, such as making the 1st replacement free, then each additional replacement for a fee....as well as keep track of who is getting replacements. Perhaps the people who have needed so many are doing something wrong and causing them to malfunction. Just some of my ideas. But I really do hope they stick with the tablets.
if a pen malfunctions...i don't believe there should be a fee at all..this should all be covered under warranty...unless, of course, you snap your pen in half on your own accord.
LMU should have a contract worked out with gateway, where they give them 10 extra HD's, 10 extra pens, etc, to keep on hand in case of any failure, so it can be replaced the same day...lenovo does that for the company I work for. When something breaks (and it never does, unless an employee drops his or her computer..and even then there is usually no damage), we just replace the HD, or keyboard with the extra's we have on hand, and just submit the claim to lenovo at a later time...it works out for the best since there is no delay in something breaking and getting it replaced
They do have a case of pens on hand to replace on the spot, at one point I saw like 50 in the office. The point here is more to the fact that the pens break...often...very often. I know some people who are on their 10th pen, someone who is on their second computer and when I was in there the other day there were 4 notebooks stacked up on the desk. Clearly these tablets are not durable enough to handle our needs. In a great big shout out to the school (especially the tech guys) they realize this and have bent over backwards to handle our tech problems and are working now to eliminate this problem for ALL students next year. This is typical of DCOM dedication and one reason I love this school so much. 👍
On the tablet vs notebook issue, the Thinkpad I saw in the office was a tablet and they made mention of how much better the Thinkpad pens work. That leads me to believe next years computers will be tablets.
HippieChick and DrZoom I'm crossing my fingers for you (and everyone else who is waiting to hear back).
I bet you'll get the call tomorrow, so keep your phone on in the morning! I live in CA and my call came really early and woke me up! 😉
hey all, I am interviewing soon and was wondering if anyone could give me the breakdown of a typical interview day at dcom...
greeting, tour, etc.......how many interviewers we have, are they docs or students or both....
thanks guys!
ahh..the ignorance..😉....as long as it has 4 wheels, engine, and a windshield...what other car would you need? 😉as long as you can take notes and get on facebook, what else do you need?
dont tell me you are going to do some big time work on this thing, you dont have time for that.
i leave the thread for like a day...and we are back on computers. where is mitch when i need him? please kill the computer banter. please. please. please. as long as you can take notes and get on facebook, what else do you need? dont tell me you are going to do some big time work on this thing, you dont have time for that. facebook and studying - thats it. done. go draw some mustaches on people's facebook pictures or something if you are that bored.
good luck to everyone awaiting phone calls and interviewing, I hope it works out for you

are you sure? i don't have anything else to do...im done with school...i've been accepted....i work at company where only 25% of my time is actually spent doing work...the other 75%? don't ask me...i sometimes even take naps.....so im in limbo-land right now and all i have is time 😉
and really..it takes all but 1 hour to do...what' it going to hurt? perhaps, you are overreacting?
or are you just afraid the class of 2012 is going to end up with better computers than the class of 2011? and you will spend all of your time gawking at our nice computers
fyi...I'm just joking around
How the attitudes will change in 6-8 months...I cant wait. I was in your shoes at one point in time. Enjoy your precious free time man, i kissed that stuff goodbye long long again unfortunately. all im saying is cant we talk about something else? I feel like we are tooling it up pretty bigtime here with all this computer talk - dont people have interests outside of computers? what is the coolest NON-MEDICAL experience everyone here has had?

Kind of medically related, but we had two midshaft femur fractures up on the hill while I was ski patrolling last week. One was head downhill in a ditch with a busted nose and blood everywhere and the other was head downhill against a 4x4 on the side of the slope. We also had the usual twisted knees, fractured clavicles, boot top tib/fib fracture, but the femurs were something not experienced everyday. I've also flown more people this year than in the last five combined, and thats pretty cool.
The coolest thing I had happen to me at the ER when I worked there was getting to do a hot unload from lifestar with a patient they were flying in. I felt like I was in an episode of M.A.S.H. 😀.
Completely unrelated to medicine, I just got back from Lake Tahoe after snowboarding for about a week. I <3 powder....... *drool*.....
As for the computers, I dont care what kind we get. It will probably stay in my backpack most of the day unless I have to use it for one of those quizzes. I plan on sitting next to prions and using my mac to watch the powerpoints and take notes. It's superior in all ways. Especially when its running the Parallels program that runs windows faster than any PC I've ever been on.
On a side note..... Its snowing!!!! Who wants to go hiking and take to dogs out to play in the snow and get all wet and tired? 😀
Anyone?
OK....how about golf??? How many of the newbies are golfers??? I would be willing to put together a small get together at one of the local courses where we could play a round and just hang out before school starts. Maybe sometime in late July???

Hey people who are at LMU.. nascar et al. Whats the club situation looking like down there? Have you guys started any and do you have like student government etc?
Just looking for some info on stuff to do while I'm down there.
On another note, I want to take a trip down to visit more of the surrounding area after I graduate college. Anybody willing to let me stay on their couch for a few days?
So...what other schools do is set up a big brother/sister type thing between the 1st and 2nd year med school class, so one can come to him or her for any questions/concerns, etc.
does anyone know if dcom has these plans?...I think it would be a great idea to pair up the 1st years with the 2nd years...hence..big brother/sister
any comments on this?
The show was hilarious too...two guys are at a bar, they order a beer, one guy says, "Bottoms up", gets on the floor with his feet hiked in the air and begins "consumption."Apparently, rectal enemas utilizing beer make for better conversation! 😀
BTW - that was funny Hoss. Who would have known?
These should be all of them. There may be more next year once you guys get there b/c clubs must meet a minimum requirement of people, and I know some did not make it. Thus, this list can, and most likely, will expand next year.
