LMU-DCOM (DeBusk COM) Discussion thread Part 2 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yay!!! I'm excited!!! We will have sweet neighbors. Oh, and I emailed Pat this morning and she said that she sent my email to somebody and so I should be getting the refund soon, didn't seem like too much of a problem.

are you going to bring that cute little dog of yours to DCOM? I sure hope so!

It's sooo exciting! We can all bave a BBQ before school starts! Woo Hoo!

I'm glad you asked about the refund because I haven't heard anything from Pat, so thanks for filling me in on that, roommie. 🙂

yey..food! :hardy:

For TV, I would recommend DirecTV. I've really enjoyed them and the price isn't bad either (free installation and the basic package starts at $29.99 + $5.00 per month for the box). Plus, for you out of towners, you can get NFL Sunday Ticket...very much worth it. As for the other bills, I don't know b/c they are lumped into my total rent, but I don't think they are too bad.

Congrats to you guys for the acquistion of your new properties. Its really exciting and things really start to seem for real when this all begins.

Bivvie, stay patient, I know its hard. But honestly, I haven't seen Dr. Stowers around for the last couple of days, so he may not be here. I would imagine you should get your letter by the end of the week though....so hang in there!!!!!!!!!!

Sherruns, it was nice to meet you. I hope the interview went well and that you get some good news next week. Same with you I am Scared and to the others lurkers out there!!! 🙂hello🙂

uh.....and I am chopped liver, nascardoc?
kidding!!
thank you for your kindness and help. I certainly did not expect it and was definately pleasantly surprised!!!!

Ok, so about 140 for water and power. Not bad. Not sure If I'll go ahead and get cable or not yet. As much as we are supposedly studying I dont think I'll need it, but then again, it would be nice to be able to watch some TLC or discovery once in a while. I dunno, we shall see. Are you guys already living there? Or just getting everything ready to move down?

No, we aren't moving down until the end of May or beginning of June. I want to move soon after the wedding on May 3rd, but unless my fiance has a new job in TN to transfer to, we will have to postpone our move date.

We had to set up utilities this week because our lease became effective on Saturday. We are renting the house from a couple that just got divorced (the woman and kids just moved out) so we had to transfer utilities right away or it would be more expensive to have them shut off then on again. I need the DirecTV for my Michigan Football (GO BLUE!!!)... ahem, pardon me, and of course my husband will be living with me, so I'm sure the TV will be used a lot. I'm just concerned the DSL will be slooooooooooow.

As for waiting for the letter in the mail. When people got phone calls on Tuesday I got my waitlist letter in the mail on Friday. What a weekend let down! Anyways I hope you have much better luck than that.

I wish I was bringing her with! but no, she is at home in WI right now, and is way bigger than she was in that picture.. she's growing up so fast.

Sorry  Good luck to you too!!!!!!! I'm glad you enjoyed your day (and Oasis). You are very welcome....I'm glad I could help you out, answer questions, etc. I enjoy showing you guys around and giving you all the low down on DCOM. You guys had a really good interview group and were a lot of fun.

She's a yellow lab, her name's Izzy... I also have another yellow lab (Dave), and a chocolate lab (Bob) at home too

I've got AT&T DSL at home at it works just fine. You won't have any problems at all. I've downloaded lectures and all, so don't worry.

are you planning on bringing any one of them?

haha no, sorry, they will all stay at home.. I would feel like I was neglecting them if I brought them and couldn't give them the attention they needed.

I feel the same way about my baby . . . my parents can take better care of him and they spoil him rotten! He gets to nap on the people couch and everything!

that's true...a good, but tough decision i bet ...

im not much of a titans fan so hopefully someone with directv will host colt's games.

Ok good... that's encouraging. I'm sure I'll get lectures downloaded fine... I'm more worried about my fiance who is trying to maintain his job in Michigan from TN, working all day online remotely to his company via satellite.

Hi Nascardoc:
I would absolutely love to be there this year. What an incredible place!
You were so sweet to help us and make us feel at ease. The tour was incredible. I haven't stopped talking/thinking about that robot lab, the architecture, the anatomy lab, the lecture hall, the OMM facility. It's just too much to believe!
s.

I wouldnt worry too much about that.... We had DSL and just recently switched to cable, and honestly, I cant tell much of a difference just in surfing the web. Downloading may be a bit faster with the cable, but as ND said, DSL works just fine.

Hey, ND, will you be at the Oasis meeting tomorrow? I'm planning on being up there to put down my deposit on the room and take care of my LMU deposit, so I figured I might as well stay and eat some pizza 🙂. 7:00, right? I can never remember. If its pretty like its supposed to be, I might go and hike a little. Its one big chunk of things to do by getting this place lined up, so I'm pretty excited. I think I'll pretty much be moving out of my parents house, most likely for good. That will be weird, but I just dont feel like trying to find a bed and all that stuff, and I'm basically moving up there for two years, so it would be silly not to bring my room with me.

Prions, where are we getting BBQ from? Are we making it ourselves?

My wife uses the DSL to work remotely when she is down here and it works fine. The line can go in and out, but the same could happen with cable. But you sholdn't have any problems.

Sure, I'll stop by. It'll be fun. You can talk to the interviewees as well. 7 is correct.

Are 2011ers invited to this BBQ shindig, or it is only for 2012ers???

You'll find there's quite a few colts fans around here since, you know, Peyton Manning graduated from UT and all...

So it sounds like we will have to fun neighbors 🙂. Too bad EEL and t-funk and TT cant come too. Now that would be a party...

Awww rose that's so sweet!! 😍 That's the main reason it was hard to decline my acceptance there because you guys are all so freakin' awesome!! Of course I'm trying to not be too sad because I get to be classmates with slim and DancerDoc, and of course MrEEL08!! 😉

prions I'm kind of worried about you and cassrae being roommates. With two beautiful women in one place the men are sure to be beating down your door. Rose will be first in line. 😉

The Walmart, of course!

I might have just thrown up a little in my mouth... Haha, I'm sure we can find a better alternative to wally-world bbq.... Would this be a class thing, or just a neighbor thing, or what?

Well...if you ask me...everyone should come!!! 😉

But of course, it's not my apartment. (psst...I'll bring bud light if I'm invited)

Hey Hey...EEL...didn't realize you'd gotten accepted to AZCOM. That's so awesome for you and your husband!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Too bad EEL and t-funk and TT cant come too. Now that would be a party...

That is sweet. I totally think it would have been an awesome party. I wanted to go to DCOM pretty bad and agree with EEL, it was really hard turning the acceptance down knowing how much fun I would have had. So I just keep following this thread so that I can be jealous of ya'll. 😀

Perfect. I like coors light better actually. Strange I know. But free beer is probably the best kind of beer, so I most likely wont complain. 🙂

Everyone can still come visit us if you are ever around Tennessee (EEL and t-funk)! 🙂 The more the merrier when it comes to parties!

Official Announcement: Everyone is invited to the BBQ at the new Cumberland Gap apartments, where 4 of the coolest class of 2012 students will be living. 😉

Rose, as for the actual BBQ, are you proposing making a fire pit or something? Hey, if you know how to make a huge BBQ that would be rad. 👍

MJB can cook a mean BBQ....he's from Kansas City....it's in his blood

Awww EEL08 and t-funk, my girls, It would definitely be fun having you as classmates 🙁

But we'll keep in touch and you never know, I might get all crazy and try to organize a class of 2012 SDN reunion next year! Woo Hoo! :hardy:

Perfect. He is officially nominated. We can dig a fire pit and toss a huge hog in there. I'll help him as long as I can drink beer. We had to do one each semester in my fraternity.

This is going to be so cool! :zip: I'm so stoked! 😀

Coors and bood light it is then (also the Smoky Mount brewery just opened in Knoxville, so a keg of Cherokee Red Ale would be AWESOME). We'll have to take up some sort of collection to pay for the bbq...that is of course unless Rose just has some extra cash lying around to drop on a pig 😉.

She's a yellow lab, her name's Izzy... I also have another yellow lab (Dave), and a chocolate lab (Bob) at home too

She's a cutie (you both are for that matter)...

I have had a couple black labs in the past and have been involved with Greyhound rescue for ~12 years. Love them greyhounds, but they sure are goofy dogs! Lol

We'll have to bring our dogs to the BBQ!

No, no, no, go to Calhouns on Bearden hill (they make the same beer there, and honestly after drinking it for almost 5 years now at both places, the ones at Calhouns always seem to be just a little better) and get the summer wheat. Best beer ever. I'll probably have to get a few growlers to bring with me when I move up there.

As for the pig... I dunno what we'll do for that. The girl's dad usually smokes a pig every year for the church, so I'll ask him where he gets his. I'm getting hungry....

No joking, the summer wheat is worth the extra effort!!

PS Rose (Will is already taking about his Summer Wheat Extravaganza)

Hahaha!! Wild Willy's Weekend Summer Wheat Extravaganza II. I cant wait. All of us Knoxvillians need to meet up one night at Calhouns and have some fun. Maybe in a Friday or two? Probably two since next weekend is Easter weekend? Whatdda ya say, Hoss, DrTI, and anyone else who would like to come and drink some amazing beer?

That would be awesome! Let me know when you want to go.
I live about 5 minutes from Bearden Hill...so no extra strain to go there. I haven't tried the summer wheat because I always feel obligated to get a cherokee red anytime I go...it's soooo tasty.

You are missing out then 🙂. Summer wheat as long as they have it, then turn to winter warmer once they have it. Its the kind of beer that smacks you off your barstool after two or three. A little hopped up from normal beer percentages... 🙂. We'll have to go here in a week or so. Once we figure out when, we'll put something up in the facebook group thread too.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll give the 'ol wheat a try.

For those of you still waiting for the phone call from Dr. Stowers, you probably won't be getting one before you get your letter b/c he has been out of town, and will be for the rest of the week. I know the waiting sucks, but at least you can rest easy knowing that is he not making calls right now. So hopefully you guys get your letters tomorrow or Saturday, if you didn't today (resting on the assumption they were already mailed out).

Rose.....it was great meeting you man!!! You're a cool guy and will be an awesome part of the Class of 2012!!! Now you just have to show me how to ski without having a yard sale

So I'm a little late on this but I'm down for the bbq. I'll bring the Murph dog! Also, our break starts the 21st (sooooooooooo excited for the break) and I'm going to be around and so are a couple other people. We're planning on doing a bunch of hiking and what not so if anyone wants to come and join us let me know! PMs are always welcomed. 🙂

hey anyone interviewing on the 18th at LMU?
