LMU-DCOM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wow, thanks for your post. I interviewed on the 16th. Thought the interview went well. I like the school. They told us that the committee is reviewing us this wednesday and we will know by next wednesday before everyone goes away for holidays. So GRACE....maybe you will know before christmas. I wish you so much luck!

As for me, I hope I don't get put on the alt list. If I do, I will not be devastated.....I still would have another interview comming up at another school. It is whatever it is. God has a plan for all of us I think so we can not just freak out. Let what be....be. I will deal with whatever I have to deal with.

To everyone I met on the 16th......thanks for an excellent experience. 3 potential interviewees didn't it make it on our day. They dropped out or declined. I think people are getting accepted all over now...so the alternative list may not be so bad.....you may be really high on that list.

Look at it like THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER.....it always seems the last guy the coaches pick.....always has a chip on his shoulder that he was picked last...and ends up proving everyone that....that was a mistake. Try and make a positive out of the negative. Good luck. 👍

I am going to post my interview feedback.

I appreciate your positive outlook and advice. One of the reasons I made my previous post is because I felt that it might sound as though I had a grudge against the school, which I don't. I understand if they need to interview some people just to put on an alternate list, I was only upset that I wasn't notified of this beforehand, and of course that is only because the $600 or so I spent on the interview is a huge amount of money to us.

But I like your outlook and I do realize that I wasn't rejected; just put on an alternate list. So, I'll keep a positive outlook and hope that I get a call from them later on down the road!

In the mean time though, grats to all of those who have been accepted and the best of luck to all of those waiting to hear or have yet to interview!

Am I bad for getting excited every time I hear that people invited for interviews haven't shown up?? Ah, maybe so maybe not.

And it's true that the ones that fight super hard to get in often end up showing up the rest because of their struggle. I know of someone who got rejected two or three times from the same school (MD), finally got in, and finished in the top part of the class of 150 or so. It's possible and highly likely in my opinion.

Look at it this way Grace.....there is roughly a 60% acceptance rate if you make it this far for the interview. The med students I met congratulated us that we made it this far. Apparently admissions received 2X the amount of applicants this year. In our group of interviewees....one girl was interviewed last year and was rejected and here she was....returning.

Are you bad for getting excited about people not being there? I knew you would have liked hearing about it so I told you. Am I bad for telling you, knowing that that would make you feel better? I don't think so, I want to be a physician, so I want to make people feel better. 🙂 As we all get older more mature we come to understand that people are neither for you nor against you; they are thinking about themselves. To decline a medical school interview, would mean that you are going somewhere else...which means it increases the possible likelihood of you or I being considered/accepted which is....what we want. I am not worried about those people that declined.....I am sure they are doing just fine. 🙂

What impressed me the most about DCOM.....is the quality of human beings at this school. I met a good friend who was interviewing there and I hope we become classmates. I really don't want to go to NY for medical school (If I am so lucky to even get in), because I just think the cut throat attitude is not a healthy way to become a doctor.

because I just think the cut throat attitude is not a healthy way to become a doctor.

TRUTH. I'm sick and tired of people telling me all about how competitive/crazy insane impossible their experiences have been. Professors that make you cry and give you anxiety attacks over exams are NOT beneficial to your future skills. I had a small taste of that in one of my 3 undergrad experiences and I gained nothing from it but a lot of resentment for the teachers. Do I crack under that pressure? Maybe a little. But will I walk away from my non cut throat medical training unprepared for clinicals and my future practice? Not at all. If anything I'll be more prepared because I'll have been in a nurturing environment that has instilled confidence in my abilities rather than beat them to the ground.

Ok. I'm better now. Perhaps I have held on a little too much to those bitter feelings lol

On a happier note...only 3 weeks until my interview!!

I hadn't heard anything so I called Janette yesterday. I have another interview coming up and was going to cancel it if I was accepted to DCOM. I was told I interviewed well and was recommended by the people that interviewed me, but was put on the alternate list due to a low MCAT (which is higher than some of the scores of some of the people with posted acceptances...).

Anyway, that really seems like a monumental waste of time and money. If I actually did interview well then why even invite me for an interview since it appears as though I was predetermined for an alternate spot regardless. It's not like my MCAT changed between the time of the interview invite and the interview. I liked the school, but that seems like a really shady way of doing things.

Anyway, I got the impression that calls were placed to those accepted and if you hadn't heard then you might be waiting on a letter with some not so stellar news. Hopefully I just misunderstood and some of you will get some acceptance letters.

Good luck! 🙂

I can understand them interviewing people just for an alternate spot..I suppose. But they could let us know that we are being interviewed solely for an alternate spot up front so that we can make a decision prior to spending the money to go interview.

I'm probably more upset over this than I should be, but we live below the federal poverty level and knowing that I was interviewing just for an alternate spot would have been nice to know up front. My travel expenses were greater than $600 to attend the interview, which is A LOT of money for us.

Granted, I was never told that I was interviewing for an alternate spot so I don't want to put words in the mouth of their admissions team. But, considering my MCAT was a constant, and I was told that it was the sole reason I was not accepted, then I assume I was interviewing only for an alternate spot and nothing more. Which, would have been nice to know up front.

Oh well, I wish you the best. Hopefully you have better luck than I did! 👍
I'm sorry you feel like the school took advantage of you (I'm sorry if I misunderstood and that's not what you intended to convey).

But please know, the school doesn't just interview for alternate spots. Every interviewee is brought in because something in the file stands out. There aren't enough spots to give to everyone who interviews so decisions do have to be made. But it's not pre-determined by candidate. It's possible that there may be only a certain number of acceptances per interview group. But to say that YOU were preselected for a waitlist is like saying everyone who got accepted was preselected for an acceptance.

If you want to be here, give it a week or so and shoot out an email letting them know that you like/love the school, you can see yourself here (if that's truly the case). Find out if there is anything you can do to improve your standing in the eyes of the school.

If this isn't in your top choices for schools, you don't have to do what I mentioned. If it's because you're upset about the money, please dismiss the thought that the adcomm intentionally brought you in with the foreknowledge they would be giving you an alternate list letter. You were invited to interview because you had an application that fit what the school wants to see in applicants. Not because you could help them meet alternate list numbers.

:luck: with your future interviews and the craziness of the application cycle!

EDIT:
Just saw that I got post happy and missed this page. It's good to see that you're keeping an open mind-If I could wish one thing for you, Mota, it's that you know you were NOT brought in with the predetermination of an acceptance. And seriously, if this is your top choice, don't just walk away and wait on a phone call. Remind them that you WANT to be here!

I have my interview scheduled for December 1st and very excited about it. This is my third interview and I am getting anxious and nervous. My confidence is a little shaken now, because I got waitlisted at two of the Touro schools. I felt I did very well at the interviews, so I have a feeling it was my MCAT that held me back. I am concerned that the same will occur here, especially after reading Mota's post. Also, it took LMU a month to review my application before calling for an interview. I was surprised when they did call, because I thought they had put me on hold or decided not to interview at all. Like Grace, I'm also wishing for an acceptance this Christmas, so I hope to finish the year with my dream come true. Good Luck to everyone who has interviews coming up. I really can't wait until mine.

Vols, thank you so much for the kind words, it's appreciated. DCOM is my top choice, as well my husband and daughter's top choice. It is an area we all agreed would be a good fit for us as a family. Which of course is something that is very important to me- for my small family to support the school and area, and me. 🙂

Perhaps you are correct in that they don't pull people in to interview for just an alternate spot. From my point of view that is certainly how it seemed, but perhaps I don't know all of the details so I will try and keep an open mind about the scenario.

I have another couple of interviews lined up so perhaps I'll have better luck at those, but I have a feeling that DCOM will remain the best fit for me. Perhaps I'll give it a few weeks, take some time to let my cooler side prevail and contact them again and (as you suggested) see what I need to do to further my chances.

You are probably correct when you assumed that perhaps our financial situation puts a little more sting into the whole thing for me. We have saved up for quite a while to be able to afford for me to head to a limited number of interviews (and yes, we saved for the deposit too). 😉 My daughter graciously decided to pretty much forego Christmas gifts this year (which of course bothers me and my husband) to aid us in saving the needed money. So, yeah...I probably am overreacting, but I'll calm down and perhaps contact them again. I suppose if I had been told that I just didn't interview well and they didn't feel I was a good fit for the school I wouldn't be upset at all. Well, I would be upset with myself, but at least I would have gotten valuable feedback to aid me in future interviews...

Regardless, I appreciate your post and suggestions. Perhaps I'll give it a few weeks or months and give them a call back and see if there is anything else I can do to increase my chances.

Thanks again! 🙂

I have my interview scheduled for December 1st and very excited about it. This is my third interview and I am getting anxious and nervous. My confidence is a little shaken now, because I got waitlisted at both of the Touro schools. I felt I did very well at the interviews, so I have a feeling it was my MCAT that held me back. I am concerned that the same will occur here, especially after reading Mota's post. Also, it took LMU a month to review my application before calling for an interview. Good luck on the interview. I think you will really enjoy the school and the people. As I stated before, the people there are just wonderful and would really make it an enjoyable place to attend.

:xf: for you!

Mota, I'm crossing my fingers for your other interviews. You seem like a really genuine, good-hearted person and I felt bad when I read how things turned out for you at LMU. It sounds similar to my situation, as it is also difficult for me to spend a lot of money on travel expenses just to be waitlisted in the end. Of course being an alternate is much better than being rejected, and not all hope is lost, but it still feels discouraging.

Dear Mota,

I was writing a response for you yesterday night, when my computer crashed so I gave it up. The main thing is what VOLS said, my post would have been very similar to his/hers.

If I were you, I would not wait to contact them. I would send an e-mail to the people they interviewed you (find it on the faculty list), as soon as I could until they still remember you.

I would tell them thank you for the opportunity, and that you got put on the alt. list/waitlist, and tell them LMU is still r #1 school, and let you know/advice you why and how could you improve to get off the list.
I, personally would not give it up just yet.

Also, I am sure one of them will e-mail you back, and they might even say it is not because of r MCAT score. Who knows, as you said your MCAT is on the line with other people's. See what they say.

Don't give it up until the fat lady sings.

Also, I would go a step further and after their response (whatever it is) I would e-mail all the people including the dean who are on the admission committee, and assure them you want to go there. Still great chance somebody will e-mail you back if not all of them.

Also, I heard other cases where people requested another interview opportunity to the same school, to prove them they want to do better, they want to go there and actually they got it. I think this should show great commitment. I understand the money is tight, but pray about it, I am sure maybe some/each of us can send you 20$ bucks to get you there. I sure I can!

That's what I would do, think about it!

And not at last, but PRAY!!!! It has power!

If I were you, I would not wait to contact them. I would send an e-mail to the people they interviewed you (find it on the faculty list), as soon as I could until they still remember you.
I completely agree with this advice. You have the resources available to contact your interviewers so take advantage of it and write each one individually to get their input.

Mota, I wouldn't wait months to take action. You want to stay on their minds not have them wonder who in the world is contacting them after so long. 🙂

:luck: Your story is heartwrenching with the sacrifices you guys are having to make.

Now I feel bad that I posted that I called the school. I hope I didn't get anyone worried over nothing. I actually appreciated that Janette let me know that I was waitlisted before I received the mail notification so that I could plan on my upcoming interview. I'm sure she didn't have to tell me early but she appreciated the financial situation that I'm in and that I didn't want to fly to another interview if I was accepted to DCOM.

I really liked the school and I am bummed that I didn't get in as it was my top choice. The only thing that bothered me is that I got the feeling that they knew before I ever got to the school that I would (at best) be put on the alternate list. That aside, I still like the school and everyone I met there was just wonderful.

Again, I wish everyone that interviewed recently the best of luck. I really hope you hear some good news! 🙂

Mota: Please do not take this offensively as that's not how I mean it at all. I would PM this but I think it will prove useful for others on the board as well. I'm glad your opinion toward the situation has changed since yesterday... I completely understand your frustrations!

However, you are simply wait listed... if you are interested in attending DCOM, there is a possibility you could come off that list anytime.

The admissions staff at almost any school know about SDN and keep up with student opinions. I find that's a good thing! There aren't many areas in this world anymore where organizations listen to their 'customer base.'

With that being said, yourself (and plenty of others here) provide more than enough information to be identified in a pool of applicants. Just be careful not to burn a bridge that's still standing! 🙂 There are plenty who will be simply rejected - being waitlisted, to them, would be an honor. Appreciate the cards that have been dealt, keep your head high and attend the rest of your interviews! Positive thoughts yield positive results.... maybe I should have been a high school counselor!

Your passion to be in med school speaks volumes about your commitment. Hang in there!

EDIT: Oh, also, 4x everyone else's advice... don't annoy the hell out of anyone, but keep yourself on their mind. Send a letter about once a month reminding them of your intention to attend LMU-DCOM and why you see yourself at the school.

I really want to thank everyone for their advice, thoughts, and support. All of it has been very very appreciated.

Cop, I understand what you are saying and I suppose I should be happy that I was put on an alternate list instead of rejected outright. And hopefully I didn't burn any bridges as you mentioned. I really don't think I have but I suppose it's possible. I would however hope that any admissions people who read these threads would understand that the forum is a good place for people to vent, which is what I was doing after the initial upset feelings I had.

I don't feel as though I badmouthed the school and I have stated multiple times (including in my interview feedback) how wonderful I thought both the school and the people were. I would never intentionally burn a bridge, especially to a school I am so very interested in. Regardless, your advice to never burn bridges is good advice, not just in this case but in general.

I did go ahead and email a few people at the school. I thanked my interviewers and also asked admissions if (other than MCAT) they had any thoughts to increase my odds of being pulled off of the alternate list.

It's kind of funny too (Cop) that you mentioned that some admissions people might read SDN as I actually mentioned SDN in my email to admissions and stated that many of the helpful people on the site felt it might be a good idea to inquire about increasing my chances. Anyway, I will not pester them, I know how busy they must be and I'm sure the occasional correspondence will suffice to relay my interest.

Again, thanks for all of the advice and support to everyone, it really is appreciated! 🙂

Well if you brought admission people here....we are all paranoid enough as it is. But if there are any admission people here, could you please admit me to your school!!!!! And while you are at it, you might want to admit Mrs./Ms. GraceEuphoria......she is literally counting the seconds until her interview...so a pre-acceptance would really be the best thing for her health right now. 🙂

Lighten up a little everyone, I know its rough, just lighten up.

Y'all are funny. Yes, there are people from the various schools' admissions here so the advice to not burn bridges is excellent. If you think you don't want to be at a school, politely refuse the acceptance. Badmouthing the school will come back and bite you. Somehow, someway. Karma is a lady. And she sometimes has a temper. (that was my nice way to say another, more well known phrase 😉)

Mota, keep your head up, hon! I'm happy to know you've emailed your interviewers. Would love to know what feedback you get from them. PM me if you want!

PS: Good luck MOTA, and everyone. :luck::xf:👍

just wanted to let you guys know that i have cancelled my interview for december 15th. good luck to everyone!

does anyone know how students are liking their rotations?

I don't want to study for the respiratory test tomorrow, so I'll bite...

From my understanding they're having a grand time. Depending upon the site many are getting the opportunity to be incredibly hands-on (first assisting on surgeries, catching babies, being the first "physician" to see patients in the clinic), basically acting the PGY-1 part as OMS-3's. That being said, I've also heard the 1-2 horror stories that are inevitable when dealing with (potentially) conflicting type-A personalities. I don't want anyone to misconstrue the last comment, so bear in mind that for a student who is gung-ho IM, surgery won't be at the top of their "fun-times" list, and vice-versa. It's all about making the best of the rotation you are on, and doing your best regardless of whether it is something you want to be doing in the end.

This might be a good question to ask again in about 3 weeks, after the core rotation sites for next year have been announced and an OMS-3 panel has had the opportunity to share their experiences. Great question though, and looking back (if I had to go through the application process again) I would have emphasized the 3rd and 4th year experience more when comparing schools. I would still be at LMU-DCOM, because rotations are certainly something that can help your career out going forward and the flexibility we have and experiences you get are incomparable.

When I interviewed two weeks ago, all the students said that most of the students have had very positive experiences. The only negatives that they had heard were people who were doing their rotations in Knoxville, just because they were at a larger hospital and were not getting as much hands on experience as most of their classmates.

On another note, can a current student post a list of some of the core rotation sites? Thanks in advance.

A word of encouragement to anyone who has been waitlisted so far.

Last year I interviewed on the first day of interviews and was waitlisted 2 weeks later. I was pissed at first, but I kept calling every once in a while. I also wrote a few letters with updates about my new volunteering experiences and my job at a local hospital.

Every time I called, whoever I spoke to at DCOM told me they really liked me, wanted me here, and thought I would be a great student.

Long story short, I was pulled off of the waitlist at the end of May. I came to school wondering if I could hack it since I was waitlisted.

Well, the semesters almost over. Right now I have 3 As, 1 very high B, and 1 middle B. I have scored above the median on every test since the first test and above the first standard deviation on a lot.

Don't think that the waitlist doesn't move and that DCOM doesn't really want you. Don't doubt your abilities, DCOM doesn't. The admissions office literally has thousands of students to choose from. I know of people with lower MCAT scores than me who were admitted without being waitlisted. Hell, I know of people with higher MCAT scores than me that didn't get in at all, but that isn't everything.

DCOM has to know how bad you want it by words and actions. Don't give up. You are good enough and it's never over until you decide it is.

I've heard the same feedback from the few 3rd years I know. They seem to love the site, love the experiences they're getting and everything else rockchalk mentioned.

All of the above is so true. No applicant should ever compare themselves to any other applicant because there are subtle differences to each application that contribute to who you are as a person, as an applicant, and as a future medical student.

Read the bolded part above. This is what you make it to be. So take a second and decide what you want out of the rest of your application cycle. And keep fighting until you reach your dream.

Hahaha...am I taking a hint that I need to get my desperation under control before I go into this interview?? I'm a lot less desperate than these boards make me sound- I gotta let it out somewhere though. Friends, family etc get tired of hearing about it 24/7 ya know? 😀

I posted this under LECOM Erie as well:
I have already been accepted to DCOM, but I have a few questions for anyone here or at the school that knows anything about LECOM Erie. From what i understand, it is a cold dark place. I am looking for some advice from people who have interviewed. I have heard mixed reviews about the way they teach, all the different methods they use, and mixed reviews about the school itself and the area. Would anyone care to comment. I would like to hear from people who have bee n through it and have opinions.

Thanks

You've been accepted to DCOM and come to a DCOM board to ask questions about LECOM? I would just go to the LECOM board, seems like it would be easier.

I got a good impression about DCOM, but really dude....its really all about you and what you want. What best meets your needs? Which place will you be happier at most? If you are from Florida...and trying to come up north...you may not like it...hence you might describe DCOM as "cold and dark". I would not base such a huge decision on other people's opinions. What was your opinion? I think your opinion should matter most.

Hahaha...am I taking a hint that I need to get my desperation under control before I go into this interview?? I'm a lot less desperate than these boards make me sound- I gotta let it out somewhere though. Friends, family etc get tired of hearing about it 24/7 ya know? 😀

Wow you must be like a psychotic neurotic broken record. 🙄 Admissions people...PLEASE ADMIT HER AT ONCE!!!!! 🙂

You are very funny grace. Atleast you have a good sense of humor. 🙂

Yeah I know this whole waiting thing sucks. I hope I hear back from them next week. 😕 The whole holiday thing will definitely put a kink into things...maybe early to mid December there will be more news, but things will definitely slow down during the holidays.

You've been accepted to DCOM and come to a DCOM board to ask questions about LECOM? I would just go to the LECOM board, seems like it would be easier.

I second this. Post on the LECOM thread. LECOM-Erie & LMU-DCOM are both in locations that experience all 4 seasons. Other than that, the curriculums are rather different, from what I understand. :luck: Pheltz.

I will say that this part of the country - that is, the area surrounding DCOM - is very 'dark and cold' at this time of the year as well. The sun generally doesn't rise until about 7:30 and it's mostly dark by 5:30. Generally, for me, it's dark when I get to work/class and dark when I get home... it can be depressing by all means. Temperature varies... it snowed at the first of October this year but was 76 last weekend. The 10 day forecast shows each day in the 50's.

It's not as bad in this area as it will be up north by no means. It will snow in January, February, and plenty in March. However, I haven't seen a snow over a foot since I was a kid many years ago. I remember one time the snow being over my head... probabably at least 4 feet worth. In 6th grade we missed the entire month of January, went back for two days the week of February, and didn't go back again until February 20th. I doubt we'll ever get that kind of snow again.

Don't forget... the North has plenty of recreation that the South simply doesn't have. If you've never been skiing, snowboarding, tubing, etc. you may find you truly enjoy it and the climate. It will ultimately take getting used to but in time you may learn to appreciate it.

At DCOM, you will see the full extent of every season - something I truly feel not any other part of the country can boast. It will be mild/rainy in Spring, 90's in the Summer, cool in the Fall, and in the teens in Winter.

Hope that helps!

I just had my file completed here....I'm excited and hopeful of receiving an interview invite!

Grace,

Since you designated me an official cheerleader on another thread, I wanted you to know that I have had you in my prayers. Best wishes at your interview. Be your self and you will get accepted. You will be a plus for any class. I'm cheering you on!

Good luck.

Aw, you guys are all way too nice! Channel all your positive energies my way on 12/8. I am in a much better mindset about this year's interview than I was last year and I'm certain it will show (plus I just bought myself a snazzy suit today!) That's the only bad thing about posting on here so much though-- now I'm held accountable to report back once I hear something! But with everyone's good wishes, I'm sure to get in right?? :xf:

Something we always looked for on hiring committees for law enforcement was people who already saw themselves in the position. I believe that's important in med school admissions as well. "As a student at DCOM, I will ....." instead of, "As a student at DCOM, I would ...." Grace, you seem to show that confidence this year! I don't have the magic answer but I have a feeling everything will turn out great for you this year!

Aw thanks again for the encouragement! I know they are interested in me if I got an interview again when they are receiving over 2,000 applications a year, so I just need to remember that too! And I do have the confidence this year. I think doing the Master's program that I am in has played a huge role in that. In undergrad, once I messed up my GPA, it was almost like I let it hang over me like a dark cloud, never allowing myself to bounce back and do better. Now with this clean slate in grad school, I'm pulling all As and Bs in upper level bio courses. I have also still been working, which I always assumed was my demise in undergrad. Granted I'm working MUCH less, but still, it's not like I am really studying that much more for these courses. Bring on the interview!! 🙂

Hey Grace I'll be interviewing the same day! I'm getting nervous/excited because I really like DCOM and want to get accepted. I'm counting down the days just like you 🙂 Are you doing to the pizza dinner the night before? It's kind of nice to know that I'm not the only one anxious for this interview. Are you from the region?

For everyone who has already been accepted, come join the class of 2014 facebook group so we can all start to get acquainted. For everyone who is still waiting to interview, hang in there and good luck!!

I'm not technically from the Appalachian region, but I'm as about as close to it as you can get without being from it (southern IN about 10 min drive from KY)...I am not sure that I will attend the pizza night. It just depends on when I arrive the night before. I went last year and while it was a nice way to calm the nerves, I don't know that I can make it this year. We'll see! Are you from TN?

For those who interviewed on the 16th and 17th, from what I know, the committee met up on Weds and decisions came out on Thurs. Has anyone gotten an acceptance call from Dean Stowers yet? I not, then I still have hopes and should expect a letter some time next week.
Good luck to everyone on ur interviews, esp. Grace. U'll get it 😉

hey all.. i have an interview on December 7th and i was just wondering how the interview day set up and how anyone else's interview experience went..

thanks

The interview day is really kicked back. The interview itself is pretty low stress--just be yourself and let them get to know you a little bit. A guy named Bob offers a wonderful tour, and if you have time to go on it I highly recommend it! Also, if you can make the pizza night on the eve before your interview try and make that too. It is not only fun, but it also does a good job of easing any stress you might have about the interview day.

Good luck! 👍

I'm from Wisconsin, near Milwaukee but go to school in La Crosse. I'll be flying in on Mon the 7th into Knoxville and should be able to make it to the pizza dinner (pending an early winter storm). Since you had an interview last year how is the interview day set up? They told me to be there at 845 but the interview isn't until 10. From 9 to 10 do we go on the tour or is that the interview? I'm glad I have you to talk to about this because some of my friends are sick of it!

at 9 am, you'll meet the admission ladies and Financial Aid lady informing you how to pay for ur tuition and expenses during school.
9:30 am, several professors will come in and talk about the curriculum and 3rd& 4th year rotations.
10am-11:30 am, interview time, u pretty much have to anxiously wait for your turn to interview.
11:30-12:30 tour of the building/school.
12:30-1:30 lunch with 2 current students and Bob
1:30-2pm Bob takes u on a tour of the med school housing/dorm then back to the school for the wrap up.

That is the truth! I am not a super competitive person and sitting at a round table with all of my "competition" for an hour while I waited last year was not so fun. Now that I know that's how it will be, though, I am much more relaxed about it. It's funny how I thought being a re-applicant would make me more self-conscious- it has actually made me more confident. Marathon- don't sweat it. It really isn't a high stress experience unless you make it one.

I called my buddy who also was interviewed on the 16th. We have not heard anything yet and both of us would like to go here, we are good friends already. I hope DCOM wants me because other schools are starting to invite me....I just got a call today from VCOM and I know from alot of people it is rough getting an interview from them, so I'm pretty happy I got an interview. I also have that NYCOM interview. I really liked DCOM and am very hopeful.

Ofcourse, how could anyone NOT like Grace?!?! I say we should make her the mascot of the 2014 class. 🙂

I didn't find it that bad but, I went first. When I came back, I just cracked some jokes and we had some fun. Levity is good.

I interviewed on the 16th but haven't heard anything yet. I think Dr. Stowers was going to be out of the office toward the end of last week. They told us we wouldn't hear anything until this week. It was mentioned that the letters would probably go out before Thanksgiving...if that helps. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck!🙂

Hahaha now THAT is funny! I'm afraid I'd be a pretty boring mascot. I wouldn't sweat the fact that you haven't heard yet if your friend hasn't either. With Dean Stowers being out near the end of last week as EMTP2DOC said, I'm sure he's either delayed in getting the calls made and may not even have the chance to do it before the letters get out.

I didn't find it that bad but, I went first. When I came back, I just cracked some jokes and we had some fun. Levity is good.
Yeah I had to sit through the entire first hour just waiting and listening to the first round of people who interviewed talk about it once they got back. I'm one of those kids that when everyone starts talking about the exam right after you've just finished it, I run the opposite direction. Yet I was trapped in this room with nowhere to go! Haha, it wasn't quite as bad as I make it sound, but it was not fun I will say that!

Yeah I should be admitted because I am a part-time comedian in addition to a professor and accomplished scientist. hahah.

Yeah, I am the same way. I don't want to talk about the exam. However, at DCOM they give you an exam and then you have to go into some group and discuss the test questions THE SAME DAY and go through all of your answers immediately. So Grace I think we both are going to have to get over our habits. :meanie:

Thanks for the encouragement- you are as usual too sweet. I called my buddy up and it was good talking about it with him because we both are going through the same things. DCOM was our first interview. He reminded me though that, THE CYCLE IS STILL NOWHERE NEAR DONE YET. We still have December, January, FEbuary, March and in some cases April. I guess what sucks the most is just not knowing where one will be living next year. I really am anxious to move out of Texas after living here 2 years. I could be living anywhere, Tenn, New York, Virginia.....next year. One needs to make plans for all this.

I agree we should make Grace our mascot 🙂 you're too nice. Thanks for all the feedback on your interviews-it really helps
