LMU-DCOM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm not sure if this has changed for your class, but the class of 2011 and 2012 are only required to do 2 months of a community hospital rotation and it's already selected for you when you get your rotations schedule. During 4th year, we also have a mandatory 4 week ER rotation at our core hospital and a 4 week rural primary care rotation.

on interview day they told us it was a 2 month community hospital rotation.
Ah yes, I'm extremely sorry! That is true! I think in my overwhelmed brain I was just lumping those all together so that in my head I remembered you basically get "stuck" in one place for about half of the year. Sorry if I misled anyone! I'll make sure to double check anything else I post along those lines.

I have a question. How does the LMU selection process work? Do the 2 interviewers give the interviewee a score based on their interview performance and then a 2nd group of people make a decision based on your file data or what???
I don't know this for sure, but my impression is that they submit a response based on your interview and that they are not part of the actualy adcom. The people who interview you are VERY busy professors and docs, so I imagine that the actual decision comes down to the admissions office folks. I haven't ever asked that for sure, though. Either way, the interviewers will certainly make their impressions known, so the interview is extremely important!!

Thanks for your quick response, I hope I get in, lol.

Got the acceptance call today also.

Just got the call around 1 and I hate that I missed it but I saved the voicemail and well it's definitely the feeling I've been waiting for...still shocked and not sure what to do! Congrats to everyone else...CLASS OF '15!!!!!!!

Congrats to all the new acceptances!! It's such an amazing feeling, is it not?! All the work has finally paid off so go drink a beer (or twelve) and enjoy your remaining free time because it will be here before you know it! 🙂

Got my call yesterday morning, I don't know that I will ever delete Dr. Stower's voicemail - I can't wait - amazing school!

morel1, did we interview together on Oct. 4th???

Just got off the phone with Dean Stowers as well!! ACCEPTED!!!

I guess I'm going to be a doctor after all!! Ahh best feeling in the world!

Geez guys... save some invites for the rest of us. lol

For any of you who have interviewed already, did they mention anything about board scores/pass rates?

Congrats!! And yep we sure did!

Hey congrats everybody!! This is Justin, if anyone remembers me from last Monday's interview session. Good to hear that most of my interview day seemed to get in! Can't wait till next fall. Let me know if anyone feels up to rooming it up and maybe getting a house somewhere. Obviously we have plenty of time, but my type A personality wants to put it out there as food for thought. Again, congrats!😀

Hey! Congrats Justin! I just knew our interview group would do well lol. I'll definitely keep that open as a possibility. Just gotta wait and see if I'll be at LMU next fall for sure. As of right now, I'd say there's an 80% chance I'll be a dcom student. I'll keep in touch man 👍

I just submitted my primary application for LMU-DCOM... I know I am SOOO late. However, I am from Tennessee so there is hope right? I am working on the supplemental application right now! Congrats to everyone who has been accepted or gotten interviews.

I submitted my primary last week and my secondary today. I'm also from TN, so I hope they move us to the front of the line, lol.

We dare to dream! haha Did you submit your secondary before your primary was released to the schools? I am trying to decide if that would be ok. Their statement about sending the secondary as soon as you submit the primary is... ambiguous. 😕

Also accepted from Oct 4 Interview 😀 😀

Has anyone received the actual letter yet?

All the best for your interviews tomorrow.
hope your pizza night went well.
How many students and candidates were present?

Well, as I procrastinated tonight from writing a paper for my physiology lab, I stumbled upon a few videos from a DCOM student on vimeo. I figured I'd share them with y'all: http://vimeo.com/4550929

He made a bunch of videos that are all pretty good. The guy definitely has multimedia skills. Check them out!

Thanks, that was a good diversion.

Congrats to everyone who's been accepted. I got the great phone call myself on Thursday at work!

To all those who got waitlisted DO NOT GIVE UP!! I was in the same position last year and was pretty destroyed at the fact that I didn't get in. But it's only October-very early in the game. Make sure the admissions department at LMU-DCOM knows how badly you want to go there. Last year I wrote a letter of intent to the Dean and stayed in contact with Janette. I didn't get off the waitlist last year but I was just graduating undergrad. So I took a year off of school, worked in the field and got on top of applying early. If you want it bad enough, put the work in and it should pay off. Good Luck!

And to all those from my Oct. 4th interview group-congrats!

Hey for those who have gotten interview invites lately, when were you complete?

Got the call from the dean today. I'm ACCEPTED!!!!!

I interviewed on 10/12 for those interested.

I also just got the call from the dean!!! ACCEPTED!!! I also interviewed October 12!! I'm so excited. 🙂 😍😍😍👍🙂

ACCEPTED TODAY!! Interviewed 10/18! Woooooo!

wow, awesome turn-around... congrats on all the acceptance, guys. anyone knows usually how often does the admission committee meet?

Canceled my Nov. 1 interview if anyone wants a sooner date. Good luck everyone!

Congrats on all of the acceptances!!! I'm really looking forward to next fall!

So I'm about to send in my secondary but I was wondering if it HAS to be mailed in or if I could try and fax/email it in to them? I feel like snail mail would just delay me even more...lol

Does LMU offer interviews without having the LORs in? Or do they wait for everything to start reviewing your application??

I will be flying into Knoxville around 2 PM so if anybody need to bum a ride just let me know. 🙂

I would mail it, most schools do not accept faxes, and I would assume LMU is no different. Also, I am not 100% sure, but I believe they wait for your file to be complete before reviewing your application.

You are already late in the cycle so another 2-3 days would not make that much a difference. Just send via email and tell that snail mail is following.

I would just mail it tomorrow or Saturday. The adcom doesn't meet until Thursday anyway, so depending on how far you are mailing it from, it will be here in time for Thursday I'm guessing. Don't lose heart- it's getting late, but it's not TOO late 🙂

Nov. 1st Interview. Got the call yesterday.

Good idea - I'll shoot them one once I get home from the post office this afternoon. Hopefully they should be receiving it by Tuesday or Wednesday since I'm in north Florida. 🙂
