Most of the current students I have talked to said housing really opens up come may/june, so I am waiting until then.

Take our word on it 🙂

It sucks to sit back and wait, but unless you have a need to get out here much earlier, you really will be fine moving in mid July or so and can wait as late as mid June to find something. If you have certain parameters on a place of residence- pets, fenced in yards, washer/dryer, etc keep your eyes peeled now of course, but don't worry. It will all work out!

I believe my house will be open in July sometime- no guarantees at this point if my landlord finds someone through word of mouth other than me or on the FB page, but if you're looking for a pet friendly house really close to school (and plan to have roommates), keep me in mind and I'll post up later once I know more about my plans for next year.
 
I am a post-bacc at LMU-DCOM so i kind of know how it is here and I absolutely love it!!! I am so excited! I cant wait to start next year!!
 
INTERVIEW INVITE!!! OMG this is by far my Number 1 choice. im so excited. cannot even begin to explain how priveledged I am. God is good.

now time to start studying

I understand as how you feel as I just got my first interview invite, although not with LMU. (Although I still am hoping for one to LMU in the near future.)

this is my first interview invite 2. I know it only takes one but still It kinda puts ALOT more pressure on this one lol. Even if I had another 2 acceptances in hand thought I would still be nervous because I do really want to go to this school.

congrats on yours 2 btw. its an awsome awsome feeling

Do NOT put too much pressure on yourself! From all that I read and heard, the interviews for DO schools tend to be more laid back and less stressful than the interviews for MD schools. (Those of you who have been through both types, please feel free to confirm or dispute this.)

I will keep that in mind. This is just so awsome. I really hope that I get the chance to start in august of this year and to be a doctor for that matter lol

Stand by for confirmation.... I have had a few DO interviews and have my first MD interview in a couple weeks... so we shall see. As for not putting too much pressure on yourself, I completely agree, the best thing you can do in your interview is be honest, genuine, and be yourself!

This is definitely true in my experience. All my DO interviews (well, all but KCUMB, they really grilled me and my interviewer was almost hostile toward me, but I think that was just his style and not representative of all the interviewers there...) have focused much more on the type of physician I WILL BE versus the student I WAS. They wanted to get to know my personality and gauge my work ethic and see what type of medicine I wanted to do, and what experiences I have had that would make me a good doctor, instead of focusing on my grades and MCAT like my MD interview did. Not saying that you shouldn't be prepared to explain poor grades or MCAT, but just saying that it is definitely less of a focus (especially at DCOM) than at other places.

Congrats on the invite! The interview experience at DCOM is awesome, you'll really enjoy it. As far as student hosts go, I do not think that is available (someone correct me if I'm wrong), but if you mention that you are going for an interview, you can get a discounted rate at the holiday in express in middlesboro. And make sure you go to the pizza night the night before your interview because you can get a lot of your questions answered. Good luck on interview day!

thanks!!!!!! man would that be sureal, to be classmates and all. It would be awsome. Im looking at rooms at the holiday in. Im thinking there are only 3 interviewies on the day im interviewing. It said that there are 3 time slots in the email. Im pretty sure robyn said I ould interview at 2 but the email said interviews would be at 10 , 10:30 and 11. so im a bit confused. either way im getting there at 8:45. should be a good day. my wife wants to go a few days early so we can look for housing etc.

even my dogs where excited when I got home. They have always been supportive of me. I told them there was a lot more room to run around in Tennesee and thats all they needed to hear.

Ill be the married one lol. I asked my wife if we could interview as a team, like in stepbrothers. she didnt think it was funny though.😳

Congrats on all the new interviewees! The interview is very laid back and never once did I feel bombarded with questions. To address the confusion about the interview day, it is set up like this:

-The first hour or so includes talks from faculty i.e. Financial Aid, Class breakdown and rotations (it's very informative)

-Then comes the interview: You either interview at 10, 1030 or 11 with one PhD and DO (same time).

-After the interviews, 1st/2nd year students take you over to LMU's cafeteria for lunch where it's your chance to pick their brains about DCOM

-Bob the bus driver will then take you around LMU and show you the University Inn apartments (this is optional)

I found my interview experience to be calm and the faculty very welcoming. Hopefully I answered most of your questions but if you have more feel free to ask. And good luck with your interview!!!

Went to school there, I'm back on the west coast though - thank goodness! I interview on the 8th, what about you? I'm soooo excited! Are you and your wife going to the pizza night?

Yeah I am so gratefull I hope all 3 of us who interview get in! Im also interviewing the 8th so ill see you there. I will be going to the pizza night thing for sure. where are you staying? I am stayin at the holiday in. they give you a nice discount if you state your interviewing at DCOM

I just booked my hotel - I'll be staying a the holiday inn. I really do hope that we all get in as well!! See you soon 🙂

I'd imagine there will be more than three of you on your interview day. There where 12ish on mine. There are three time slots but multiple groups of interviewers. Good luck. The interview is really chill. In my interview the view out the window was spectacular and couldn't stop gazing at it🙄. It was all good though. They asked a few of the typical questions at first but then it was just more of a conversation. The area is beautiful, wait til you see it in the Fall 😀.
 
I am kind of getting worried.. I interview last Monday..they didn't contact me yet..

i wouldnt worry just yet. I heard sometimes dean stowers doesnt have time to call so you get a letter in the mail 2 weeks later. I wouldnt freak just yet.

I already have the perfect answer for "why dcom" because tennessee has waffle houses. its as simple as that. Growing up in new jersey not only have I been deprived of country living, which I have strived my whole life to attain, but I was also unfortunate in that the first time I ever ate at a waffle house was this past november.

eating at a waffle house was a life altering experience lol.

thanks so much. I want to thank everyone else from this thread and those from the underdog thread also. You have all been so supportive and its really nice to see that. It feels good to have that. If I get in I am gonna FREAK!!! gotta stay cool calm and collective right now though😎

Interview invite! I'm flying out for Feb 15th. I'm really interested in this school and looking forward to learning more about it. I feel like I have so little time to prepare!
 
Not only do they have waffle house, the also have waffle house knockoffs called Huddle House. Actually, do they still have Huddle House?

Not sure why anyone cares about waffle house... I once had an over 60 waitress tell me that her tongue was pierced because it enhances a certain sex act... Also, my hash browns were greasy.
This was in North Carolina, not TN.
 
Wa-Ho hash browns are the best! scattered and covered 👍

Well there's no Waffle House real close to school, but there is Waffle King in Middlesboro. Not quite the same, but it pretty much is. Serves the same purpose of providing you with deliciously greasy food in the wee hours of the morning.

Im staying at the holiday inn in middlesboro. Maybe I will head to breakfast there monday mourning!
 
There's a waffle house in Knoxville. I'v been to it quite a bit in the past 😉
 
If the interviewer asks you at the end of the interview: "Is there anything else that you would like us to know about you, as we will be representing you to admissions committee" Good answer: How much you want to go to that school..it's your #1 choice and you want to live and work in that area in the future.

Did you decide to go to DCOM? I remember awhile back you were deciding on PCOM-Ga or LMU-DCOM if I'm not mistaken.
 
The Holiday in is right by the Waffle King. Honestly, its kind of gross in there-smelled like smoke and rotten eggs...

CONGRATS!!! I feel the same way. I have an interview the 8th. My wife has been interviewing me all week. She's been grilling me. So hopefully I am prepared enough.:laugh:

If you are looking for an awesome (though a little pricey) steak, then go to Ye Olde Steakhouse. On birthdays or visits from family, we would go there. The Cupcakery is boss for some awesome cupcakes:laugh:. Also check out the UT strip. It has quite a few bars and lots of hot undergrads 😉
