LSU c/o 2016 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone want to call and get an update 🙂

Two new emails! All they say is check the status update and make sure fall transcripts are in if applicable. Sigh back to waiting!

Rejected....I really dont know what to say at this point 🙁

Good luck to everyone.

Sorry Drwildlife 🙁 Are you waiting on other schools still?

I am still waiting to hear from Oklahoma and I have an interview from St. Georges. Been rejected by Mississippi too. I shouldn't feel as bad as I do but, I set my hopes too high for LSU. I knew my grades would bring me down.

Hasn't been a great week either due to a close relative death and an animal I intern with dying. Blah.

Oh no, drwildlife, I'm so sorry!

Hey, I'm still waiting for OK, too. Maybe we'll still go to school together. 🙂 :xf:

Has anyone been offered an interview or been denied at LSU yet?

Hey guys, I've been lurking around this thread for a while, nice to meet you all =) My status check was updated at 5:18 this evening, it says I'm an out of state alternate. It's had a completed checklist for a few weeks now, so it's good to have a response. After reading last year's LSU thread there is still a little hope that it could turn in to an acceptance.

I have that as well. Waitlisters unite! Does this mean that people may be offered an invitation without an interview down the line? Hard to say from the info and the FAQs.

Mine still says folder under review. I keep switching between excited and terrified trying to guess my fate. It was easier waiting Oct-Dec since you weren't expecting anything. Knowing I might find out any day now is way worse! The anticipation!

Damn, waitlisted... 🙁 one of my top choices. Starting to get worried about the rest of them... oh the games these schools have played with my head. :scared:

I was waitlisted as well....it sucks!

I'm betting that they've made their decisions about the waitlisters/rejections for OOS, but are still considering most of us IS until all final fall '11 transcripts are in.

Everyone still "under review" is probably IS or has a good shot at getting an interview for OOS.

All the rejections/waitlisters have been OOS/contract so far.

Out of State Alternate! :xf:

I didn't get an email notifying me, btw, so maybe they only send those out to people who definitely do or do not get interviews? Anyway, I'm glad I didn't actually stop obsessively checking the status page like I said I would. 😎 That was a nice note to wake up to this morning.

Is anyone else on the waitlist thinking of going to the Open House on February 11? I've spent a lot of time in Baton Rouge, but I've never had a chance to see much of the vet school, so I think it'd be nice to get a peek at it.

I'm thinking about it... pending other possible interview dates. I really want LSU! I'm hoping that if I can't afford to go for the Open House, it won't be a negative factor toward my chances 😕

Agreed, I am from CA and it costs a pretty penny for my to come to LSU for the Open House!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't CA have a couple of contract seats with LSU? I know they did a few years ago, but is that (one reason!) why you're applying to LSU?

They didn't have any contract seats with California two years ago when I applied 😕

This was definitely from a vet who started school several years ago. Maybe it's changed since then. Pretty sure they still have a New York seat though...at least last year. I know a girl who's in c/o 2015 who I'm pretty sure is on that contract seat.

Of course, by contract seat, I don't mean IS tuition or anything. Just seats [whichever] state pays big money for, so they can guarantee at least that many people from their state get in.

Hey Gang, I'm a contract Arkansas resident in my second round of applying. I am applying to LSU for the second time. Last year I seem to remember being told I was on the Alt. list about this time but right now it says "Folder still under review" Any other Arkansans out there?

Also applied to Mississippi, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
Got an interview at Mississippi, shot down by Missouri, and still waiting to hear back from Oklahoma. Haven't heard a word from them since a "We received all documentation..."

Nice to know that there are others going through the same thing. Its the most frustrating time of the year. (Other than coming up with a good liner for the opening of the personal statement.)

I'm from Arkansas and had an interview and was an alternate at LSU. It happened more quickly last year than it has this year. Mine also say under review. I've been accepted to Ross and there is a good chance I will go there regardless of what I hear from any of the other schools I apply to.

Does anyone know if it's appropriate to bring a guest on interview day? I know they won't be able to go into the interview (or to the reception the night before), but what about the rest of the day? I'd assume it's okay since it's the day of the open house...?

I went to the open house last year since my friend is a vet student there. It was really busy and crowded! It is a really popular event for the public from what I saw. I was hoping to find the admissions people to talk to and introduce myself but to be honest I never found them; now I realize they were off doing interviews somewhere. Anyway, they have lots of educational tables set up along with animal and equipment demonstrations, so there's lots for your guest to do while you are interviewing. There were some awesome animal opportunities, ranging from an adorable petting zoo to putting your hand in a fistulated cow!

OOS interview invitation for Feb. 11th! Still waiting on a specific time.

"folder under review" wonder if they lost it? Lol Did those of yOu who got interviews receive emails? Or did you find out via status checker?

I'm still under review as well! Too nervous.

Still under review here as well, I guess they haven't gotten to IS applicants yet.

Hope it's this week, I'm going nuts! Especially since the OOS peeps have been getting interviews

Still under review as well... Trying not to lose it over here :scared:

I did not receive an email about getting an interview invitation either. The only notification has been through the status check. I am wondering if they will send out more formal information once they give everyone a specific interview time (either through e-mail or snail mail).

They have (and have had for at least the last two years) only contract seats for applicants from Arkansas and Puerto Rico. The OOS seats reserved for applicants from any other states are not contract seats, and you pay roughly $40K a year for that kind of spot.

I'm invited to interview! So excited! My time is 2pm on Feb 13th.

I'm on the 13th. One of the first instaters it appears. :scared:
Research time!

February 14th. 9:40 a.m.!!!! That's what I yelled out as I jumped around my mother's living room (can't even visit my parents without incessantlychecking online status 😛, jumped on the puter as soon as my mom got up, got the e-mail 30 minutes later...)

Congrats to all who've made it this far! Hope to see you in class in August! :xf:SQQUUUEEE!

I got an interview, too! 🙂 Woohoo! 13th! Yay, that means I can do the open house and stay over the weekend, and still only miss one day of school/work! XD

Good luck, everyone!

Regarding the A grades in elective Biology, Animal, and Physical Sciences classes being included in the GPA calculation, are only flat As included? Not A- s?

A-'s are included if they help to improve one's Required Course GPA.

I haven't been able to find anything saying how many interviews are extended. The LSU website just says, "...a certain number of qualified applicants are invited to interview..."

Not that any other school has to follow the route LSU does, but the Texas A&M CVM website says about 70% of the qualified IS applicants are interviewed. So probably something along those lines. (220 out of 320 qualified, if you want to know those numbers).

The LSU SVM interviews roughly the top 2/3 of in-state applicants and Arkansas applicants. Roughly the top 1/3 of the out of state's Top 150 List is also interviewed.

They changed my date to Monday! I guess because I was too busy being excited and didn't confirm, they moved me with someone else who couldn't do Monday. Monday is SOOOO much better for me because I would have had to take Monday off from work to get enough rest the night before and I would have had to miss my Tuesday class (which drops a letter grade for everyday you miss...eep); but my Monday class isn't until 1 so I can go to my interview in the am, class, then work...thats is going to be a looooooong day for me, but I feel very good about it! :luck:

Has anyone ever had a webcam interview or know someone who has? I was an OOS alternate at first and then got a call today to interview but I cant make it because of another interview that weekend. They offered to interview over skype which I will obviously take them up on, but has anyone ever heard of that?
