More clinical experience and service with the less fortunate would really help. If you are from the Southern part of Illinois you are very likely to generate interest at SIU. The potential concerns of the ECs make it a little dicier, but your fortunate to have such an option.

I see about 8 schools on your current list you could call "targets" per se statistically and say you have a reasonable shot at getting a II going in. In your case, Id recommend making that number higher.

Your ECs likely wont even make it past the screening at Rush. Delete.
Toledo tends to take most of its OOS class from either Michigan or their special programs(ie BS/MD, SMP) etc. I'd scratch.
Michigan State is a rather low yield option OOS, no need for it.

Try and find another half dozen schools in MSAR that have an MCAT median around 33, are OOS friendly and get <10k apps a year(ie Jefferson, Cincinnati, Miami etc)

Thanks for your reply! I appreciate it. Do you have any suggestions on whether a gap year to focus on ECs would be a good idea? I'd likely be working in my lab during that year as well.

There are several other schools in the Midwest where you are competitive with your stats including:
Western Michigan
St. Louis
Creighton
You could try University Arizona Phoenix and Tuscon if you like the Southwest as well as Roseman if it opens in 2017
Other schools where you are competitive:
Tulane
Wake Forest
GW
Georgetown
Hofstra
Einstein
New York Medical College
Albany
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
