Y’all talking about that secondary app video submission? People were allowed to skip that? I remember practicing for that for hours . Then I find out people “yeeted” over that requirement.. that’s honestly ass.

Yeah it was ridiculous. I, as someone who spent a lot of time, effort and energy on my video and essays, was kinda pissed at that. And there were quite a few people that were getting IIs without submitting the secondary at all. Video and essayWhaaat !? Some people got interviews to the med school who didn't complete a secondary? Are you are about that lol

I don’t remember who it was but someone on here who did the program before said either you have the mcat score beforehand and do research during the December month long break or you take the mcat course and pay the $1400 for the classWait....so you would have to pay out of pocket for the prep course? It's not included to where the financial aid covers it? Wow.
Hopefully it's covered in the fin aidI don’t remember who it was but someone on here who did the program before said either you have the mcat score beforehand and do research during the December month long break or you take the mcat course and pay the $1400 for the class
Probably will, just refund check would be smallerHopefully it's covered in the fin aid
NopeHas anyone gotten accepted into the MHS program yet?
I just talked to admissions this morning. According to Miss Shelita McIntosh those who completed their application before the first priority deadline (April 1st) should know if we get in by April 30th and if something changes we'll be notified by email.
Wanted to get others opinion. Please feel free to weigh in. I'm a non-traditional student. I have a 3.7 GPA, but a low MCAT score of 494 (2017). I have worked in biomedical research for almost 8 years before deciding to head to medical school. Also this would be my third time taking the MCAT. I took it in 2016 and got a 491 (Had no idea what I was getting into). Took it again in 2017 after taking a few science classes (Organic Chem) at a local university and got a 494. I went back to school and got a Master of Natural Science and finished with a 3.7 GPA in Dec and planning to take the MCAT again either Aug 31 or with the MHS program.
I submitted my AMCAS (with the 494) and I was planning to retake the MCAT last year and send my updated score to Meharry, but ended up canceling my test due to emergency gallbladder surgery and a bad reaction to some medication. That horrible experience made me even more convinced about going to medical school. I was rejected from Meharry Medical School, which was no surprise to me (bc of my MCAT score), but I was invited to the MHS program. I was planning to retake the MCAT in Aug of this year, but I noticed that the MHS program has a prep course included. I'm trying to decide if it would be better to take the MCAT in Aug and study on my own (while I might be in the program, if I'm accepted) or if i should wait and take the prep course with the program? I have heard it's a Kaplan course. I can't afford the $2200 course on my own. I'm not sure if a prep course would help or not. What do you guys think?
Your story of perseverance is inspiring. Keep pushing! I would say see where you are (practice score wise) right before the program starts. If it is in a competitive range (higher than 501 consistently) it would be okay to take it and get your score to be set. If not you can just wait until the prep course Meharry offers. I've been told you get enough financial aid to be able to pay for it, you just need to manage your $ and put some aside.Wanted to get others opinion. Please feel free to weigh in. Thanks! I did put it in my secondary apps and MHS application.I think this is a compelling story that you should save for a med school essay, scholarship, or use for interviews! I would remove it from the interwebzz (the non academic part) but based on what you shared, It’s clear that you’re determined. I would say the MHS program would be great but at the end of the day you have to make this decision on your own
Thanks! I noticed the MHS Kaplan prep course is cheaper too. It's $1500 compared to $2200. That's a good idea with the practice test. I'm gonna go that route. I just wish they would start sending out letters already, so that I can really plan everything out.Your story of perseverance is inspiring. Keep pushing! I'm glad. And I receive that blessing homie. I'm hoping for good news for all of us. Yall seem like y'all would be great classmates!God bless u, this made my morning!! 🙂
Thanks! I hope to see you in the MHS program too! I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hopes high for all of us. Any suggestions on practice exams? I'm going to use the AAMC stuff for sure, but could use some extra practice exams.I would have to agree with that! I noticed a 5 point increase on my score just by practicing more, and doing a lot more TIMED exams!! Wishing u nothing but the best, and really hope we meet in the MHS program! 🙂
I just looked her up on their directory (to see if we're getting info from a good source since we've gotten different answers in the past) and she's actually their admissions manager! So, it's looking good yall! Prayerful we'll be classmates by next week!I just talked to admissions this morning. The kaplan course includes ALL the aamc practice materials (excepts flashcards) and all their exams as well (8FL exams), 1000 Flashcards, and an adaptive Question Bank (Which is a kinda smart and ask you question based on areas where you are still not good at)Thanks! I heard many good things about the kaplan course as some have suggested!
For me personally, I suggest that you mainly focus on the AAMC because it really was the closest to the actual thing.. besides the exams, I recommend to buy their passages bank and basically make a schedule to look like a real test (do for example 8 passages of CARS, Physical, bio, and psych.) and make sure to time urself .. in other words, create more exams for yourself from these banks!!
Before the AAMC stuff, I did quite a bit of Khan Academy: they have hundreds of passages to do on everything, and they are all free!!! Obviously the AAMC stuff is closer to the real thing, but this was a great start for me

I hope this helps, and best wishes to you!! 🙂
UWORLD IS THE TRUTH!! I wish i knew about it way before i took my exam, but i only heard about it a couple of weeks before my MCAT and it was so helpful. They had a free two week trial. But i have talked to many others and they agree UWORLD is very helpful. I will definitely buy/ use it when i take the MCAT again! Some people also spoke very highly of Uworld!!! U would have to invest and pay just like the AAMC stuff, but it seems like it would also be GREAT practice!! So really depends on how much u can afford...
Typically med schools give you the option to do a masters after your 2nd year and before your 3rd. But if you want to risk turning down a linkage program and are confident that you will get into med school after getting your MPH insay go for it and follow your passion! Good luck to you as well!I just wanted to wish you guys luck. I am going to see what the decision is but I have made a decision. I decided to get my MPH because I don't know when I'll get to do it or if I'll get another chance to do it in what I want to do it in.
As someone who knows someone who has done a combined program it isn't exactly the same. Plus i want to do one very specific that only a hanfful of schools have. The opportunity to do the linkage could come around again. At the end of the day as long as I'm happy I'm good. There is no guarantee in anything. I could do the program possibly not do well on the mcat with the course then I have a master's that I'm not going to use or valuable.Typically med schools give you the option to do a masters after your 2nd year and before your 3rd. Well said. What is the emphasis of the MPH you are going for?As someone who knows someone who has done a combined program it isn't exactly the same. Maternal and Child healthWell said. What is the emphasis of the MPH you are going for?
Awesome. That is a extremely important field in this day and age with major disparities between different sectors of society as well as between the different races. So I'm all for it!Maternal and Child health
Yup. I have a big interest in which is why I'm doing. Even if I never got in med school I would be happy doing work in thisAwesome. To get into the MHS Program? Nah I don't think so.Do y’all think there was a minimum Mcat score requirement for this?

You'll be fine homie![]()
I hear you. Well I'll put it like one of my friends put it. If this Medical school sees something in you and and takes a chance on you when no other school would. Take pride in that school and go hard for your institution. That's how I feel at this point personally.Lol thanks but I’m soo all over the place with this situation I don’t even know how to feel waiting for Tuesday. It’s hard to explain I just have sooo many thoughts because no shade at all, MMC wasn’t my top choice for med school...
