Hey guys! Just thought it would be nice to start a thread for those of us applying to MHA programs for Fall 2011. Where have people applied/when did you submit apps to SOPHAS? Post news as you hear, and good luck to everyone!!

I haven't finished my applications yet, but almost there--hoping to submit in the next few days...

Applying to: JHU (MHA), UNC (MHA), Columbia (MPH in health policy and management), VCU (MHA)

Stats:
GMAT: 710 (92%) (took in lieu of the GRE)
GPA: 3.35 (Economics BS major, possible Health, Medicine, and Human Values minor, big state university)
Experience: I'm currently a senior so I don't have any full time work experience, but I have worked at an orthodontist office (brief interest in dentistry) and volunteered in a hospital during my undergrad.

Where are you applying?

I applied this past week to VCU (MHA), Columbia (MPH), and Cornell (MHA).

Stats:
GRE: 630 V / 700 Q / 5.0 A
GPA: 3.4

Experience: lots of leadership in college, a year volunteering with AmeriCorps, etc. I'm currently working at a non-profit health organization.

Oh my gosh, I thought I would feel better once I got my apps in, but now I'm soooo antsy! I just want to hear back 😳 Good luck finishing everything up, eatpray.

Hey guys,

I haven't started the application process just yet, considering that I'm currently a Junior, but I'm happy to see that you've started this thread. I look forward to tracking your progress! I have above a 3.0, I'm not exactly sure just yet because I'm waiting on my fall semester grades. I have a ton of leadership experience and 2 health related internships. I'm also taking the GRE this spring, I'm so nervous. I'm considering applying to the following programs, my top choices are in bold:

Columbia: MPH-Health Policy and Management
University of Michigan: Masters of Health Services Management NYU-Wagner: MPA-Health Policy and Management
Georgetown University- MS-MHA
Boston University: MBA/MPH-Health Care Management
Harvard: MS- Health Care Management
UIC: MPH-MHA (Offers MBA/MPH)
UChicago: Health Administration and Policy
.University of Kansas: Master of Health Services Administration.
Northwestern: Health Industry Management Program
Johns Hopkins: MHA -Master of Health Administration
Wash U: Master of Health Administration
Yale – MPH-Health Management
Cornell: Master of Health Administration
U Penn: MBA in Health Care Management
Rush University: MHA
George Washington University: Masters of Health Services Management
University of Missouri:Masters of Health Administration

Just an FYI: since you're a JR in college

Harvard's MS in Health Care Management is for practicing physicians/dentists in leadership positions. The SM2 track though is for applicants with at least 2 years of work experience post BA/BS.

UPenn, UChicago, and Northwestern's health care management programs are within some of the most competitive MBA programs in the country. You'll need a great GMAT score and typically 2-5 yrs experience at a top firm in order to be competitive.

Hi, I am just beginning the SOPHAS process. I am applying for the UIC MHA program. I go to a Big10 school and have a 3.4 GPA with a 30 MCAT. How competitive am I for this program?

Hi everyone!

Just saw this thread. Nice to see someone started it. I have applied to Tulane, South Carolina, Pitt, Yale, Emory (No word on any of them).... and applied and interviewed at Johns Hopkins, George Washington... and have been invited and scheduled an interview at Michigan, OSU, SLU and Minnesota.

Anyone out there have interview tips or general thoughts about those schools?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

Hey, I've been following these boards for a while but its my first time posting. I applied to Hopkins MHA at the end of january and, not suprisingly, no word yet. My stats are:

GRE:1380 (610V,770Q,5.0W)
Undergraduate GPA: 3.4
Double Major in Economics and Political Science
3 summers of full-time work experience at two different healthcare lobbying firms in DC.

I'm currently a senior at a pretty good liberal arts school. I'm kinda worried that my lack of work experience is going to bring me down, but who knows. Good luck to everyone on applications. I hope to hear back from anyone else who applied to the JHU MHA.

Can others chime in regarding UCLA vs Columbia for health administration.

I've been accepted to both school's CAHME accredited MPH programs. At this point I am extremely interested in joining a healthcare consulting firm or a large firm with a well established healthcare practice such as Deloitte or PwC. I've written out a list of pros and cons, but I'd like to hear what others think.

bump?

Has anyone heard from Cornell yet and if you have, can you comment on the turn around time? I don't see them receiving a huge influx of applicants so the turnaround time can't be that long??

Obviously I can't say for sure, but I would doubt that anyone would get accepted without an interview. They need to make sure that you aren't crazy/a jerk and that you have at least some social skills. Which is why you don't have to do them in person or anything, they offer phone interviews as well.

Thanks. I suppose I knew that already... I guess I should stop obsessively checking my application status and just focus on obsessively checking my email.

Has anyone had an interview with Minnesota for the MHA program? I have an interview there in a few weeks and I was wondering what the panel style interview will be like.

I have! I just had my interview with past week with Minnesota and I got accepted the next day. However, my interview was over the phone because I couldn't fly out to Minnesota. I had two people interview me, and they basically asked questions like why MHA? why Minnesota? What are your goals in 5 years? They asked me a couple of behavioral questions about my experiences, and I primarily have a business background so they asked why I wanted to go into healthcare. But overall they were really nice in the interview! Make sure you do your research on Minnesota. I think that set me apart! Good luck!

Thanks ashleyleah15! That is very helpful information. Congrats on your acceptance! Is Minnesota your first choice?

I'm right now debating between a few schools. I'm originally from FL, so location is a factor. Right now I'm debating between USF, UTH, GWU and UMn. UMn and GWU are probably my best options. I'm still waiting to hear from BU and Columbia as well!

Is UMn your first choice?

did anyone interview at vcu? any of you considering going there in the fall?

-waystinthyme

I interviewed at VCU last week. It was a fantastic experience, and they give you your decision (if possible) on the day of the interview. I have been provisionally accepted (pending completion of an accounting class), and I am strongly considering attending in Fall 2011. VCU MHA has a great curriculum, and everything about the school and the opportunities impressed me to no end. I am waiting on interviews/decisions on a few other schools, so I am waiting to make my final decision. Let me know if you have any questions about the VCU interview or program!

Has anyone interviewed with or been accepted to the MHA program at MUSC?
I interviewed last week and am now waiting on acceptance. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

So I have been accepted to Minnesota MHA and I'm strongly considering attending.... My first choice is Columbia but I haven't heard yet :/. Has anyone had any experience with this program or living in Minneapolis? I am a FL girl so that is a concern. Thanks!

I decided to go the MPH route, and I am going to Columbia. I was really torn between hospital administration and healthcare consulting, and I know Columbia has a lot of connections for the consulting side.

Hey, I saw that you got in to Minnesota's MHA program. How competitive was it? I graduated last year with a BA in Economics (GPA 3.33) from a State School, and I am planning on applying to several MHA programs with Minnesota being at the top of my list. Do you feel like they were looking for a lot of work experience? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Our full-time Master of Healthcare Administration program is appropriate for applicants with limited or no healthcare work experience or individuals who wish to make a career change from industries other than healthcare.

The program is pretty competitive. Minnesota has a great SPH, and as far as healthcare goes Minneapolis has a lot to offer. I graduated from a state school with a 3.7 in Business Management, and I applied to a mix of MPH and MHA programs. I do have some experience in healthcare, so I was not really worried about that part. But every program has a mix of students with a different variety of experience. I would not be that worried about it. You do have to do an interview with Minnesota. Be sure to explain why you want to go there especially, and what direction you see your career heading. I know because my background was mostly business related they did question my commitment to healthcare so be sure to respond to that as well. Good luck with your application! Minnesota was one of my top choices.

So who's getting ready to apply to MHA programs for the 2011-2012 cycle.

Hey I have a interview with MUSC this week and I am really nervous.
Has anybody had a interview with them yet to describe how it is like and can remember any specific questions they asked
