Oregon. Total cost of attendance for OHSU: ~$67,000/year. UMich: ~$79,000/year. So about a $12,000/year difference, thus I'm not too concerned about the cost differential. Definitely interested in a surgical field and not primary care, which leads me to UMich. But I've worked in the Dept. of Surgery at OHSU for 4 years now so I have great connections/relationships with many professors there. My gut feeling tells me Michigan but I'm nervous about giving up my network at OHSU. Also, I'm very interested in transgender care which leads me to OHSU.

Is this even a question. UM has one of the best hospitals in the country and is a top 20 school. Ann Arbor is a great place to live, costs are similar but the opportunities at UMich are so much better. Just cuz we lost this year in football doesn't mean the med school is worse.

As background, I've worked at OHSU for the past 4 years and have great relationships with faculty/residents in virtually every department. I understand that UM is top tier, but I have an amazing professional network at OHSU that I believe would be a strong asset to me as a medical student. So that's why I'm so torn.

Well that makes it different I guess. I mean if you already know you are going to succeed at OHSU and really like it there, idk if gambling and taking a chance is worth it if you can really see yourself staying at OHSU because you already know you enjoy it.
