Hi,
So I am trying to input my essay into TMDSAS just to see what it will look like. Based on 62 lines and 80 characters a line, I wrote a 4750 character essay. Now I try and copy that into the TMDSAS form, and it truncates certain lines and I am unable to seperate off paragraphs.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I remember having similar problems last year. I was told by the TMDSAS people that as long as it looks good on the screen in the application template you should be fine. The schools have some type of application reader that eliminates the problems encountered by the applicants in trying to see what the app will look like when it is printed. Just be careful of the truncation at the end of the essay. I ended up having to type it directly into the application rather than cutting/pasting from MS Word to avoid the funkiness in spacing and truncation. Good luck!

Anyone else have this problem?

I would save it as a text (*.txt) file before cutting and pasting. Also for the paragraph problem, I manually edited the paragraphs after cutting and pasting. As for the truncation problem, I seem to remember reading somewhere that the box in the application will let you fill in a ton of text. But then when you save, it truncates to the appropriate length.

Hence, what I did was edit the essay until it fit after I saved it.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue, but I typed my essay as 5280 characters according to microsoft word's system. When I copy and paste it into amcas it comes to exactly 5300 and that's because there are some paragraphs and those spaces are = two characters.

It looks like a big blob of letters on amcas' site but it prints out ok. I called amcas about a few things and she said it looked ok to her.

She also said, at the end of the day what can you do really. Just type it as best you can, follow the rules and that's it. Last year people's essays printed out with glitches and everyone just dealt with it and no big deal. That made me feel alot better ... 😉

Hi Gleevec,
Another thing to make sure and check is the apostrophes and different punctuation marks because for some reason I had to go back and insert them in after I cut and paste from Word.
GOOD LUCK!
