Midwestern

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think on the CCOM thread that someone was accepted with that gpa and I'm sure it happens. It all depends on your application and what experiences + stats that you bring.

I would caution you against saying things like "it's a DO school the gpa should be lower" it hurts our feelings and we are sensitive on this board. 😉

No really, DO schools tend to look at your experiences more than MD schools so they can choose a wider range of applicants. Plenty of the people accepted at CCOM have really high stats as CCOM is considered one of the best DO schools.

Anyone familiar with the stats for midwestern (CCOM). I know of a lot of people who applied and got in with gpas of 3.7s and lower mcats like 25; but, i also know of people who got rejected with 3.5s and 26s. Is it possible for a person with a lower gpa like 3.4/3.5 to even have a good shot i mean it is after all a DO school so the gpa standards should be lower

It's hard to say that a person with a 3.5 gpa wouldn't have a good shot at CCOM, but I guess they do put more emphasis on GPA vs the MCAT. I have a 3.5 GPA and 30 MCAT and was rejected pre interview. And I know I'm not a bad candidate as I have 6 MD interviews, often times you just aren't a fit for the school or something in your app they don't like.

I wouldn't say they put more emphasis on GPA vs MCAT. I have a 3.3 and a 29 mcat and will be attending CCOM in the fall. There must have been something else in my app that they liked.

CCOM said '3.5/28' was average on interview day.

I was fortunate enough to receive an interview invite from CCOM and my ucGPA is 3.4 and my usGPA is 3.4 with a 34R MCAT. My grad GPA is a bit higher, but a 3.5 or so won't be what keeps you from interviewing at CCOM, in my humble and most un-knowing opinion.

I was accepted to CCOM with a 3.18 sci gpa, 3.48 cum, and 31 mcat.
Unlike another poster though, I have 0 MD interviews haha

would you rank DMU or CCOM as a better medical school?

That's tough. I doubt one is appreciably greater overall than another, but I don't doubt that they are quite different.

I think attending either one nets you a great education, provides you a solid foundation for the COMLEX exams (and USMLEs) and is a benefit when applying for residencies.

It's hard to rank schools because what are you using to rank them. Amount of money they get for research? Number of grads that go into primary care? COMLEX scores/pass rate?

Basically, both schools provide a top-notch education and have very good 3rd and 4th year rotation sites established (one of the most important if not the most important part of your education).

Grrrr...you beat me. And I was typing so fast too. 😎

hmm....IS it a requirement to shadow A DO doctor before ap plying to DO schools because i shadowed an MD doc and gained much experience there.

Some schools require a DO LOR, so shadowing or some form of communication is needed. I'm not sure if CCOM requires a DO letter or not. If you go to the sticky about the application process there s a link in that thread that list which schools require a DO letter.

It is not a requirement to shadow a DO (at least, I can't think of a school that does expressly require it) however, many require a letter from a DO (as Beck says) or at the very least they will often ask about your exposure to osteopathic medicine. It would be much easier to have something to talk about if you've shadowed a DO.

where is the application thread where i can find the schools which require the DO LORS? IF you can paste it, that would be nice

thanks. Is there anyone with a 3.4 or lower that got accepted into midwestern?

is it to late to send a secondary in to ccom? i have a 3.85 cum g.p.a. and 33 mcat with plenty of health care experience.

I'm no expert- but I have significantly lower stats and I'm planning on doing the same! You absolutely still have an excellent chance.
