Mizzou 2024-2025 (c/o 2029 hopefuls)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Disappointment is an understatement. But it is what it is and time to move on from Mizzou. Let's hope things fall into place with the other 4 schools. Best of luck to all.

Congratulations to all that received an interview invite! Feel free to holler here or my DM with any questions regarding the interview or program in general. I hope to see many of you at the in-person interviews, highly recommend if you are able to fly in/drive down for your interview do so! It of course has no bearing on your interview score, but it is a fun day with interviews, tours of the school and hospital, ability to attend a student Q+A, as well as a banquet.

Those that did not receive the news they were hoping for, it's not over till it's over! so keep your heads up and best of luck at the other schools you applied to this cycle!

I would be curious as to what the average stats were for those getting interviews. I know it kind of fluctuates year-to-year. Just curious to see them. A lot of very strong candidates in this group. Best of luck to all.
I’m disappointed that they’re not doing file reviews. I got denied OOS so I would love to know what they didn’t like about my application or at least what sort of GPAs, experiences, etc those who did get interviews had.

For those that got interviews, would you mind sharing your stats?
Got an OOS interview!

Science GPA undergrad : 3.7
Graduate GPA 4.0
Over 6,000 hours animal experience
Completed Master of Public Health, interest in Veterinary Public Health/One health
Graduated undergrad almost 3 years ago
Have worked 1 year GP clinic and 2 years in an emergency animal hospital
During undergrad I did laboratory animal research and worked in shelter medicine

I'm a 25 year old applicant, this is my second cycle but first time applying to Mizzou!

OOS interview 🥹
I'm a very unique non-traditional student with a solid GPA.

Everybody who missed out on an invite - the cycle is still young! I know the suspense is rough but hang in there.

For my OOS interview (!!!), I’d be coming from Boston if I decide to opt for in-person. Do you think it would be worth it/make a big difference in my outcome? It would probably end up being an ~$800 ordeal in the end and take a whole weekend. Any thoughts/advice?
It's really up to you and if it is worth it to you to take the time to tour Mizzou and see it in person. I am a current OOS Mizzou Student and my only visit to Mizzou was during my interview as I didn't have the chance to tour it before applying. For me it was worth it to be able to see the school. That being said, my home state is not nearly as far from Mizzou as Boston so it didn't cost me as much to travel. I would also consider how you feel doing an in person vs a zoom interview. I tend to do better with in person interviews but that isn't necessarily the case for every student, so go with what feels right for you. As for admissions, it will not make a difference in your interview score if you go in person or use zoom. So it really is your call. I hope that helps! Congrats on your interview!

I am just looking at making sure all of my pre-reqs are in line for mizzou before the interview. I just want to confirm, can Bio 1&2 be used to fulfil the biological science course requirements? I’ve also taken genetics and will be taking microbio in the spring, but those will only equal 8 credits.

As long as those courses don't have an ANSC (Animal science) course tag yes they can! Unless it's changed they do no accept courses I believe in that category that were taken to fulfill an Animal Science curriculum.
When in doubt email Kathy in admissions! She is typically very quick at responding

Okay thanks. No they are biology courses for a pre-med degree. Thank you!

Do you know when they send out information about tours, the Q&A and banquet? I signed up for an in-person interview Jan 4. Thank you!

Does anyone by chance know if family or close friends are allowed at the tours/Q&A sessions on interview days?

There are people who bring spouses or parents to them, it’s no issue for the tours/Q&A. But I would limit it to 1-2 people just to be safe. I wouldn’t bring a whole group

Don't quote me on this but I would imagine after the interview links close and they get a total for each weekend/zoom. We have finals through next week (most classes finished up this week) so my guess would be you will receive an email before we go on break/get through finals.

I will see you there! If you have any questions (goes for anyone else as well) just holler 😊

Has anyone not gotten any word at all from them? Cuz I have not
If you haven't heard from them I would email admissions (Kathy seay) ASAP, please also check your junk mail and spam just in case! You should have heard something same day as others on here

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday. I have my interview coming up on January 5th and I am currently using SDN to practice. I was curious if anyone knew if these questions are good ones to study for the Interview. If someone who is currently a student could give some insight, that would be great!

I used those questions as well when I interviewed. I would be comfortable with general interview questions (strengths, weakness, likes, dislikes etc.) But mizzou interviews are VERY application specific so the interview will be different for everyone, make sure you know your application and why they should choose you over someone else 🙂

Hi, I just want to make sure. The interview is an open interview, correct? The interview is next week, and I'm getting nervous!!!
If you mean open as in open book, yes. All panelists (3-4) will have comments/notes on your app in front of them. Each panelist will ask 1-2 central questions and then pending your answers this might open up separate discussion points 😊. So KNOW YOUR APP!!

Can't wait to see ya'll crush it next weekend!!

I’m not trying to be rude, but I have a question because I’ve been seeing people say “know your app” a lot for interviews. How would I not know my app? I wrote it and they are my experiences. How would people not be able to talk about their own lived experiences? Again, not trying to be rude at all, just generally curious what people mean when they say this. Thanks!

Be able to talk about your experiences, what you got out of them, and how they will help you be a better veterinarian. If you have an experience that is not directly related to vet med (like you played sports, were in band, have a cool hobby, etc.) you may be asked how that will help you be a vet. You may also be asked for clarification about certain experiences so make sure you feel confident explaining them to your interviewers. It's really about being able to explain why this thing in your app matters. I hope that clears it up some.

Okay that makes sense. Thank you 🙂

Reach out with any questions, happy to help or direct you to who can help 😊

Hello friends! I received an OOS interview invite, but have chosen to move forward with another school. I hope my interview spot will be given to another student who is on interview waitlist, if there is one! Good lucky everybody!
