In the past BU made it hard to reject an acceptance, you had to login or get help with rejecting the offer, and if you don't do it then you could be charged something like +$500 for accepting (by not rejecting the offer), but not showing up! Of course . . .
 
Hey to those who received Emory acceptances, did you receive your financial aid package or find out when it will be released to you?
 
After several weeks of my Emory Opus saying Application Incomplete, it has finally changed to say Under Review! Finally!

- currently an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer working with substance abuse prevention and HIV/STD prevention, especially targeting Alaska Native/American Indian youth and LGBTQ2+ members--will complete 1 year of service in June 2019 (full-time)
Research:
- 1 summer as a research assistant in a lab diagnosing parasites in human samples (full-time) - culminated in 2 posters and 1 presentation
- ongoing/sporadic 3 years as a research assistant on projects related to anthropology/historical epidemiology/demography, infectious diseases - culminated in several presentations at regional, national, and international conferences (maybe 1 publication, we'll see)

LOR: 1) my anthropology research adviser/mentor; 2) a biomedical professor who oversaw my other research position and taught a few of my classes; 3) my major adviser

Interests: epidemiology, global health, infectious disease (esp. HIV and STIs); I am also applying to anthropology graduate programs, which has definitely impacted my list of schools

Applying: Brown University (epi + anthropology), Case Western University (population health research + anth + global health), Emory University (glepi + anth), University of Arizona (epi + anth), University of Florida (epi + anth), University of South Florida (epi + global communicable disease + anth), and University of Washington (epi + anth)

Hey all! I've been quietly lurking on this thread but decided to update: in my last post I mentioned applying to multiple schools but I ended up only applying to USF's MPH as part of their anthropology dual-degree program (I also applied to other schools for MAs in anthropology, and plan on getting my MPH after if I don't do this dual-degree) (this is due to both POI availability to take on graduate students and my decision to focus on MA before jumping into a PhD). Maybe this comment will help future anthropology/public health dual-degree hopefuls!

Timeline so far:
11/27 - Submitted USF anthropology application
12/3 - Submitted SOPHAS
12/3 - Submitted USF public health application (USF requires an internal application in addition to the SOPHAS application :inpain:)
12/13 and 12/14 - letters of recommendation submitted
12/15 - deadline (both programs)
12/18 - SOPHAS verified
12/18 - "Recommended for admission to Epidemiology and Global Communicable Disease combined MPH" email from USF assistant director of graduate admissions - public health :heckyeah:

Hi everyone! Has anyone updated their semester grades from this semester? I just got my final grades and was wondering if I should go ahead and update it or let it be? Probs dumb q just wanted to get thoughts TIA
 
Any other folks apply to UMinn? Received acceptance today for EHS - any insight into the program/school would be appreciated!
 
Can someone help me? I just got an email from Columbia University notifying me that they still haven't received my recommendation letters, but by the time I submitted my SOPHAS application I have all three letters ready to go, and it has been more than two weeks since I submitted my application. Does this ever occurred to anyone before??? What should I do?

Call SOPHAS. The error is probably on their end if it's showing that the recommendations are in when you look under "Check Status."

I don't know much about the EHS program at Minnesota, but I know the U's public health programs are pretty well respected in general. If you have any questions about general culture at the U, or anything about the Twin Cities, feel free to pm me! I'm wrapping up my last year of undergrad at the U.

I received the email early this morning. I submitted my app on 11/28 but didn't receive an email from Yale saying it was complete until about a week ago.

I had pretty much the same timeline. I received the application complete email on Saturday.

Sorry, just wanted to clarify...I have an “Application Received” email from them that says they’ll reach out if anything is missing. Is this different from the “application complete” email you’re referencing?

Yes, it is. I got the application received email on the 28th. I got the application completed email about a week ago.
 
The Yale email for me also included the following: "We will be busy reading over the next few months and are hoping to send out notifications of admissions decisions in the first week of March."

Looks like we're in for a long wait..... 😴

In good news, received my acceptance to the ScM in Epi at JHU this morning! They reiterated they don't provide many scholarships... fingers crossed, though. I can't afford to go there without one (same story at every school....).

I figured I'd repost my stats, since it's gotten buried in the thread, and I've gotten an acceptance

Undergrad School: Ohio State (graduated May 2017)
Undergrad GPA/Major GPA: 3.706 / 3.808 (SOPHAS verified)
Major/Minor: Neuroscience / Chemistry and Biology
GRE (including date taken) or Other Test (if applicable): MCAT: 511 (128 / 127 / 129 / 127) (May 2016) (84th percentile, subscores between 73 and 91 percentile)
Experience/Research (please, be brief):
- 1 year full-time experience (plus 2 years part-time as a student) as a lab tech in a leukemia lab, isolating and cryopreserving leukocytes from blood and bone marrow samples (current, will continue during application year).
- Over 600 hours (might be over 700 at this point, I haven't checked lately) volunteering at a local hospital, where I was awarded a scholarship due to my work there (will continue during application year).
- 9 days volunteering in Nicaragua, split between working at a medical clinic and building a latrine to service a rural population.

LOR: one from my boss at the lab, one from a professor that I had for psychopharmacology who I got to know very well over the semester, and one from my volunteer coordinator

Applying: Emory (BSHE)
Accepted: Emory (12/17)

How competitive am I for merit scholarships? I'd be very pleasantly surprised if I got any need-based aid, seeing as I have a full year of full-time work, which makes me look not very in need on paper, compared to the average broke college student that's typically applying. However, I'll still need some aid. Anyone have any idea if I can even hope to get anything merit-based?

Hello! No need to worry, I submitted my Columbia MPH app 3 weeks ago. I got the verification that my entire application was received by the Mailman Portal yesterday. As long as everything was in there when you submitted your SOPHAS app, you should be fine.
 
Hi everyone! Just thought I'd chime in and recommend everyone utilize their signature line, and within the signature line mention the page that their full stats are on? That way we don't keep re-posting stats and burying newer posts.

Congrats on getting into Emory! I believe you have a decent shot on receiving a merit scholarship due to your fairly high GPA and test scores. There are also departmental scholarships within your department you may be qualified for. Good luck!

I received the same email last year but was accepted in January. I think the latest they sent out acceptances was in March. They might have changed it though!
 
Also Accepted into NYU global heath with money this morning! Over the moon because I consider myself not a very strong candidate. Stats are on page two.

I also got rejected from GWU global epi disease control earlier in the month.

I can speak to this! I'm in the global epi program at Emory currently. Honestly, they are almost the same. Global epi is basically epi + a few global health requirements. You have to take introductory global health for global health majors and either have an international practicum or focus on underserved populations. Other than that, you take all the epi core classes and are treated as a part of the epi department. Looking back, I think I'd almost have preferred to be straight epi-- less requirements and you can do the exact same things for your practicum without restrictions. The global health for global health majors is also a pretty awful class that they're trying to reform but it isn't quite there yet. Ultimately, I've loved being a part of the epi department and Emory is a fantastic place to be!!! Feel free to PM me for more information. 🙂

Oh wow! I just applied to GWU for global epi disease control on Dec 15 and we have similar stats and interests! What is with GWU being way more competitive than last year? I have no hope in getting admitted seeing everyones rejections and their good stats.

I did, with a link to login to view my admissions decision. It was from the graduate school, though. I haven't gotten any direct communication from the school of public health yet.
 
Got two acceptances in one day. ETSU Community Health and UNC Health Behaviour. Hoping to hear back from Kentucky soon.

I have a question. Do I have to pay the admission acceptance deposit before I can be considered for funding? Especially for UNC. I have already accepted the admission offer on my student portal.
