MPH 2020: Applied, Accepted, Rejected, Waitlisted

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Oh, also rejected Oxford Global Health (2 days ago). But that was a longshot anyway :/

For those of you who are waiting for Columbia's financial aid, I just asked faculty about it and here is the response:

"Access to our financial aid portal will be available once you receive a financial aid award letter via email.

We are currently in the midst of reviewing candidates for financial aid and anticipate sending out notifications via email over the next couple of weeks. All applicants are considered for institutional funding which includes merit scholarships, mission based scholarships and endowment scholarships. Generally to be considered for a merit scholarship, students typically had an overall undergrad GPA of 3.75 and above, and scored above the 80th% on all sections of their standardized test."

But it seems like the cutoff for merit based scholarships is not that strict. I have seen fellows who have states lower than the cutoff but still receive a 40K scholarship.

That's weird because I have access the the financial aid portal but never received my official financial award letter in the status update section of the regular admitted students portal or in an email. The financial aid portal for me just outlines how much it will cost to attend for 2020-2021, which is the full tuition amount w/o any awards since I haven't been notified of any yet. When I called to ask if this was my final funding package, they said it's just a generic outline of the COA and more will be added to it if I were to receive a scholarship.

I just called financial aid because I also have access to the portal but haven't received anything. They said I should receive my package in 2-3 weeks.

Anyone know when UNC HPM releases fin aid packages, and if TA/RA positions are common among them??
I was told end-Feb for merit scholarships. Gillings doesn't offer TAships to incoming grads but we're free to seek them out in other departments based on previous experience/coursework. RAships aren't a part of the initial package either if I remember right.

Ah this kind of freaked me out. Hopefully they're feeling generous this year :nailbiting:

Would you happen to know what merit scholarships are based off of? GPA vs GRE? And how hard it is to get one?

I just want to pay as little as possible

Is anyone still waiting to hear back from Johns Hopkins for the full-time 1-year MPH? I submitted my application on December 7 and when I emailed admissions to check in, they gave me the vague answer of, "every department takes different amounts of time to complete the application review process."

damn i'm really hoping they're lenient...my undergrad gpa wrecked me...even within my department i got departmental honors b/c most ppl's gpa's were that messed up lol.

Is anyone else still waiting to hear from Yale??? My application went into review on dec 28 so definitely losing hope but also if I’m rejected why hold onto my decision for so long

I'm in the same boat.. my undergrad GPA doesn't look too good but if you consider that my classes were curved to a 2.8-3.0 average (Math major) I did pretty decent. On the financial aid form that you fill out after getting accepted, I mentioned this, so hopefully they'll take that into consideration. Good luck to you!

I got my rejection letter about two days after I sent them an email following up about the status of my application, it had been under review for over two months at that point. I still wonder how long they would have held on to the rejection if I hadn't sent them an email. I would definitely reach out to their admissions office for a status update, and I hope your fate is better than mine was!! Good luck!

That's sort of what I'm worried about is that as soon as I inquire I will receive a rejection but it has dragged on for so long now that it would be better to know either way, I guess. Thank you!

I asked WashU this question, and they said that only if the total scholarship amount exceeds the total cost of attendance (not just tuition) will they reduce the amount of scholarship money they gave you.
Thanks for sharing! Hoping other schools do this as well 🙂

Just got accepted to my final program, University of Maryland's online Behavioral and Community Health program! Throughout this application process, I cut a lot of schools from my list once I came to terms with the fact that I do not want to leave where I live right now (DC) and that I want to work full time at my current job (healthcare consulting) while going to school to avoid going into a lot more debt.

Now, I am faced with the dilemma of picking between Maryland online, UNC online, and GWU in-person. Time to make some pros and cons lists! I'm considering making a whole separate thread if anyone has advice so I don't clog up this one.

I just heard back from Yale today (accepted - MPH SBS). My application was submitted 12/10, but not marked complete for review until 1/19. I believe this is because I applied for the acc. MPH, but was ultimately admitted into the traditional MPH.

I had a similar situation with another program and had the same thought. Frustrating, to say the least.

Does anyone know if Harvard only sends out decisions once a week? (if I don't hear Today will I have to wait until next Thursday?)

I also got accepted to Harvard (Health Policy - 65) and found out by checking the portal, I have not gotten an email yet. Congrats to others who have been accepted and best of luck to those still waiting!!
Congrats! Did they have any fin aid info? Or was it just the acceptance?

I'm still waiting for this program! I submitted mine 12/21.

I just got accepted to Harvard as well, not via email but by refreshing the portal. (MS in Epi). So, I'd recommend refreshing your portal and not waiting for the email. Good luck everyone 🙂
Hey Congrats. This is 42.5 credits or something else?
