MPH 2020: Applied, Accepted, Rejected, Waitlisted

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hello everyone, congrats on all your acceptances! Long time lurker, but heard back from my last school today so thought I'd finally post. It's been a super anxious ~2 months so I'm glad it's finally over. Hang in there!!

I applied for the MPH in Nutrition/Global Health concentration for most schools, and MPH in Population&Family Health for the ones that didn't have a nutrition option. Still waiting on scholarships/financial aid info to make a final decision, but honestly not expecting too much because my gpa was really low during undergrad. I think I'm still more shocked that I actually got in anywhere tbh

GPA: 3.02
GRE: 162V (90%), 159Q (70%), 4.0W (57%) (taken 9/22/17)
Applied: GWU, UCLA, UCB, Emory, Columbia, Johns Hopkins (MSPH/RD), UNC (MPH/RD), UW (MPH/RD) - all submitted 12/1
Accepted: Emory (1/16), UCB (1/24), Columbia (2/4), JHU (regular MSPH, 1/31), UCLA (2/19), UNC (regular MPH, 2/20)
Rejected: GWU (1/9), UW (interview 1/23, rejected 2/4)
Attending: ??

Did anyone apply to UCLA's dual Asian-American Studies (MA) and Community Health (MPH) program.....

I heard good news from Harvard for the MPH-65 in Health Policy! I am a bit confused though, as the letter says I can find info on admitted student days and other required forms on the portal. I'm guessing only after I commit? Anyone know of opportunities to visit before April, or has anyone had any luck setting up their own individual visit?
So if you click to the second page of the decision letter a box will pop up that says something along the lines of the fact that your viewing privileges have changed, log out and then log back on. I did that and can now see a lot more information! Make sure you click to the second page of the decision letter though and everything else should unlock!

Oh wow! Yeah they never emailed me that I got denied for global health, I just saw it on my portal and then two weeks later they emailed me and said that they thought I’d be a great fit for BSHE and that they’d forward my app! That is helpful though, i was just hoping I wouldn’t have to wait another full 6 weeks for a decision. Do you know if you were still considered for scholarships?

That's great, I'm sure they have a lot of confidence in you as a candidate if they forwarded you!! I marked it as my third option that I would be interested in so a little different situation, but I received an email after my acceptance about scholarships saying they would be out in mid to late Feb (maybe a little later since I was only admitted last week) so I would assume I am still considered and I would assume you would be too.

Got my acceptance letter for MPH 45 Quantitative methods from Harvard this morning. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted this week and good luck to those who are yet to hear back. This is insane, I am so happy and excited. Also a note to friends who did not get in - I have been through failure in the past and I am going through some of the toughest times in my life right now but I want to reinforce the power of grit and courage because - if you want to do something from the bottom of your heart - the pursuit in itself is beautiful, the process and the struggle IS the real essence of your story right there. So embrace the process and don't lose hope friends. Thanks for your support over the past few weeks.

Accepted to Health Policy 65-credit at Harvard - the portal says March 31 for financial aid decisions.

Very excited but also probably have to make sure I can afford to go! Congratulations to the others who found out today and good luck to those waiting to hear.

Accepted to Harvard MPH Quantitative Method (45). For those of you who got accepted, was there any scholarship information on your decision letter?
HI there. The portal says they will send out fin aid letters by March 31. Can i DM you to talk about the MPH 45 Quant ?

I sure hope so! Emory has been my dream since high school, so I’d love to go there but I am in the same boat as you being mainly interested in global infectious disease so I’m not sure about the program especially since I’ve been accepted in GLEPI at another program. That’s a relief. Thank you so much for responding!

In at UCLA, which completes my admission cycle! My quant score was below 50% (153) and I got in everywhere I applied!!! Future matriculants: don't let the GRE try to tell you anything about yourself!! You are so much more than three numbers.

Probably going to be logging off now that I've heard from the schools I applied to, but wanted to drop this here for future MD/MPH students; feel free to message anytime if you're a medical student concurrently applying for the MD/MPH dual degree program. It's not widely advertised and I had a hard time figuring out when/how to do this in conjunction with clinicals and board exams so I'm happy to pass on any ~wisdom~ to future med students considering applying! Applied to Harvard, Yale and Hopkins and accepted to a 3 for the dual-MD/MPH program.. happy to talk whenever! and if there are any current MD/MPH students who are going to Harvard in the fall, slide into my DM's so we can be friends this fall!

Is anyone still waiting for UCI that submitted in December? I guess acceptances are starting to roll out and its making me even more stressed out and anxious (been refreshing my email every 15 mins) :arghh:

Congrats Congrats!!!! It just feels unreal:biglove:
Do you know when they will send out scholarship info? Is it around the same time with the financial aid awards? (Also, if you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for you to receive the merit scholarship from Columbia? Sorry for asking so many questions...)

Congrats to you too!! I am not sure about scholarships, but I am assuming around the same time (by March 31st)?

And I was accepted into Columbia 2/4 and heard about scholarship info 2/13 so about a week and a half. You have amazing stats (which is what they seem to care about) so I have a good feeling you will be hearing something soon 🙂

Have you heard any information about admitted students visit days for Harvard?

I also got in to UCI this afternoon for sociocultural diversity and health, but I’m sure yours is coming! Don’t worry!! It seems like they are releasing decisions every couple of days.

Thank you for sharing!! Hopefully there will be some kind of scholarship because the full cost is just too expensive plus the costs of living in NYC and Boston 🙁🙁
I was wondering about the same thing regarding Harvard's admitted student days. I tried to look for the dates on the portal but I didn't find anything about it. Maybe they will email us soon..

I’m right there with y’all about Columbia :/
As for Harvard, the portal said their admitted student day is on April 3!

I wonder why Harvard releases Thursday AND Friday. I’d think they’d just send them all out

This is what I was wondering. I haven't heard back either, and idk if that's because they haven't finished sending them all out yet or because I'm not getting anything :/
Yeah, I wish they’d be more clear about it! I’m guessing they’ll eventually notify us that we didn’t get anything merit based (if that’s the case).

Has anyone heard about Emory scholarships since that initial round went out last week Wednesday-Thursday?

Is anyone still waiting back from Columbia?
Unfortunately yes, I applied for SMS. Talked with admissions earlier this week and every time I call it seems the decision timeline has been pushed back. They did say usually decisions are released towards the beginning of the week though, hoping to hear next week!

SAME I called last week for sms and they told me my application is under final review, and I was anxiously refreshing my email the whole week :/ Hopefully next week for sure.

Do you know if final review is after the faculty review by chance? Or anything about the steps of the review process?
