i feel like you ll hear back positively. Those are some impressive numbers and past experiences

IN AT UCI!!! Was accepted for the Sociocultural Diversity and Health Emphasis earlier this afternoon! Thank you to everyone who has responded to my frantic messages, answered my many pesky questions, and offered words of encouragement when they were needed the most. I'm sooo excited to return to my alma mater and can't wait to meet my cohort this Fall 🙂

Has anyone recently gotten a scholarship from the University of Michigan? I know they said they did two waves of scholarships, one in mid-Jan and one in Mid-Feb and I'm beginning to think I wasn't awarded anything in either cycle.
I got an email last Thursday with a 75% tuition award

Has anyone started to make a final decision yet? All signs are pointing towards Columbia for me, its really a no brainer considering I want to do HPM. I'm just hoping for ANY sort of scholarship to justify the decision and then I'll be making my deposit. Will I see anyone at Admitted Student's Day on March 6th?
I'll be at admitted students day on the 6th!! Right now I'm stuck between Michigan and Columbia. I haven't been offered anything from Columbia yet, but it will need to be very generous for me to justify going out of state :clown:

I had been delaying this just to wait for Harvard, but like many people today, I got nothing. So... I just accepted my offer at Johns Hopkins for the MHS in Epidemiology. It was my first choice anyway, so I figured there was no point in waiting anymore. I am so incredibly excited! I feel lucky and humbled to be where I am in my life and to have the opportunities that I have. I really hope everyone ends up doing what they want to do in the future. I am really glad I had a bunch of equally obsessive people to talk with during this application cycle, and I really do wish everyone the best!

I'm considering Tulane, BU and UNC - all for Health Policy! What programs did you get in for? And what are you thinking of each? I'm super confused over here 🙂
Community Health Sciences at Tulane, and some variation of that for BU and NYU. I’m leaning towards NYU or Tulane, but Tulane didn’t give me any monies and BU gave me 35% off tuition. NYU gave me $14 k. So, I’m equally torn. I’m going to try to make Tulane’s admitted students day... have you planned on going to any of those?

Hi, do you know anything about this program more than what is present on the website?
Hi, no, nothing more than the website. But, I guess we can always ask the program coordinator. I might email them on Monday with few of the queries I have, if you have any questions in particular, can ask that too.

Delayed post: I heard back from Harvard on Thursday with good news (I was accepted 😀 ) but have long since decided to choose Hopkins over Harvard. Hopkins is the top program in the country since 1994 for a reason. I know rankings are sometimes arbitrary, but how do you argue with a #1 ranking ever since the rankings began!

Harvard almost never gives financial aid and let's face it, people with just an MPH typically don't make that much money after graduation, so I can't afford an unnecessarily expensive Harvard degree PLUS Boston rent. Living in Texas and paying Texas rent has spoiled me .

Congrats to everybody else who got into Harvard, but I'm definitely just going to decline Harvard's offer of admission so that somebody else can have it. The "Harvard" name can only carry you so far when, technically, the program is only second best to a cheaper program which would let me graduate faster and save tens of thousands of dollars. (I don't relish the thought of being in school forever.)

If you have questions about Harvard, and talking with a current student would help, feel free to DM me! I am in the SM2 Epi

Have yet to hear from Brown University School of Public Health, but after much consideration, I will be attending Emory University Rollins School of Public Health for Health Policy and Management (I plan to concentrate in Health Care Management). I've heard nothing but positive reviews regarding the city of Atlanta, the program, networking opportunities, etc. so the decision almost came naturally considering the cost of tuition & living vs. many other programs.

If you have yet to commit, know that you know what is best for yourself so don't let others sway your decision. If you're attending Emory University in the Fall, let's link! Will be a whole new city/state/region for me!

:clap::soexcited:

Congratulations!!! I knew you would get in! See you in the fall! 🙂

This is such a great feeling seeing everyone commit to their respective institutions! Looking forward to many collaborations in the future, I'm sure everyone's paths will converge at the many public health events/conferences that are to come 😉

congrats to you as well!!

Rip im guessing the accelerated epi at columbia program isn't going to send out anything else?

I’m right there with y’all about Columbia :/
As for Harvard, the portal said their admitted student day is on April 3!
Thank you!! It just appeared on my portal under "Items to Review" section today 🙂

Hi everyone! I have committed to University of Michigan MHSA program but am still waiting to hear from Harvard. Someone on here posted that the MPH 45 program has a 56% acceptance rate. Can anyone else confirm this? I applied to the MPH 45 and if the acceptance rate is accurate, that gives me some hope! Thanks and good luck to everyone!

Just wondering how late in the game JHU releases scholarships? I have received an offer for the Schoolwide MPH a month ago, but haven't heard about scholarships yet. Should I assume there won't be any financial support from the university? Also if anyone has any idea about how often Harvard offers financial support, that would also be really helpful! Thanks in advance!

According to the JHU financial aid portal, Hopkins starts releasing scholarship info in March.

Based on old SDN posts, Harvard almost never offers scholarships, regardless of how amazing your stats are. It's kind of like how Harvard doesn't really start accepting people until late February: it's inconvenient for us but they do it because they can. (They know people will wait for an admissions decision, pay for a MUCH more expensive degree, and be thrilled to attend Harvard despite it only being #2 because of the "Harvard" name.)

True. I have been trying to decide btwn Harvard and Hopkins for the past two days and even after dissecting every piece of the equation in both these programs - it comes down to
- Do I want a focussed degree from Harvard or Do I want a broader learning experience and access to more international projects during my MPH. If you choose Harvard - atleast from my point of view - you need to choose it for the right reasons such as a focussed study regime to learn a specific skill set and for the access to all the hospitals and interdisciplinary Harvard schools In an around boston.

Honestly, I could use some help myself. This decision is oddly stressing me out.

I'm leaning toward Hopkins, myself: they get 25% of all NIH research grants and I don't want to "put all of my eggs in one basket" through a super focused Harvard concentration. Also, it sounds like Hopkins shares more of its resources with MPH candidates than Harvard does; Harvard seems to care more about PhD students than MPH students. (It's kind of like how I'm not going to Emory, despite its fabulous CDC connections and the fact my ultimate goal is to work for the CDC, BECAUSE Emory mostly focuses its energy and resources on epi/global health students, not on health management students like me.)

Besides, I'm excited to study at a school that has been the #1 public health school since the rankings began and save ~$30,000 in the process lol. (Harvard graduate housing costs ~$1,800/month.)

Looks like tuition is a few thousand more at Hopkins, I don’t think the difference in price is that large. Rent is definitely ridiculous in Boston.

My Hopkins rent will be $1,300/month for 11 months compared to $1,800/month for 18 months of graduate housing at Harvard (MPH65 is 1.5 years long). That alone is a difference of $18,100.

When you factor in how a Harvard MPH65 degree is $54,640/year for 1.5 years versus $69,720 total at Hopkins that's another $12,240 in just tuition.

Altogether, rent plus tuition differences for people who want graduate housing (or quasi-graduate housing, in the case of the live 929 apartments at Hopkins because Hopkins doesn't have graduate housing for MPH students) is $30,340.

Ah, I’m in the 45 credit so that’s the difference for me.

Hi everyone - since people are starting to make decisions, I figured I'd pull together a spreadsheet similar to the ones that past years' threads have had. This compiles everyone's stats, results, and final decisions for future reference for applicants next year.

This is, of course, completely optional, but I think it will be a good resource for people on this thread and in future threads. Feel free to fill out as much as you want!

I’m not sure if there was a 2019 one, but I think 2018 had one...I don’t have them bookmarked, sorry 🙁

I would recommend going through those forums - probably on the last few pages?

I'm making the same decision too, except I am torn between JH, Harvard, and Berkeley (because it's half the price). I think I'm going to only think about it minimally until I know all the financial aid and scholarships I've been awarded. That'll probably make the decision easier for me. My ultimate goal is to get a PhD in Epidemiology and work for the CDC. Does anyone have any input on what schools have the best connections there or potential for me to reach my goal? (unfortunately, I didn't know about Emory's connections with the CDC until well after the application cycle)

Hi guys! For all those who are still waiting for a decision, hang in there! Good things will come.
The application season is finally over for me as I committed to GWU with a full ride (YAY!). As an international student, all I can say is there's always hope for us all lol.
My stats for a full ride: Small liberal arts college GPA: 3.91 GRE: 163V 165Q 4.5AW
Good luck everyone! This sub got me through the pain of the application season for real lol.
